if your choice is 80X80 you should go for old model 600W(or 2X 300W) minimum ... mars2 700W is better
if your choice is 100X100 you should go for mars2 900W minimum ... and mars2 1200W is better.

the perfect fit for the mars2 700/900/1200W for FULL LIGHT POWER and high yield flowering are .....

mars2 400W = 60cmX60cm or 2' X 2' (4 square feet)
mars2 700W = 80cmX80cm or 2,6' X 2,6' (7 square feet)
mars2 900W = 90cmX90cm or 3' X 3' (9 square feet)
mars2 1200W = 105cmX105cm or 3,5' X 3,5' (12 square feet)
mars2 1600W = 120cm X 120cm or 4' X 4' (16 square feet)

depend of your choice, 80X80 (7 square feet) and 100X100 (11 square feet) are very different and are not the same area at all

if you want to go for real cheap and save money .... go for 2X 600W "new" old model panels (120X5) instead of mars2 900/1200 and it will be very good. (600W "new" old model cover about 85cmX55cm or 5 square feet each) ... 2 panels 600W would be cheaper than mars2 900/1200 but maybe better too, cause more smaller panels mean better light distribution over the area. Old model panels are only sold at amazon or ebay.

Hello! This is me again! Today I will buy the mars hydro so I need to be super sure choosing between the 900 or the 700. My Growth area is between 80 x 80 x 150 cm or 100 x 100 x 160 cm. Also want to know if they both have switches for veg and bloom and in case they dont, is there any difference? I mean, is it gonna be harder to grow or anything like that? Always used hps and I change the bulb from veg to bloom so not sure how it will work with no swtich, hope you can help me today is the day I buy!!! :D thanks everyone! have a good week
 
Morning Sara (or evening :) ) Congrats on the 1000+ pages. I think I have been here for a little less then 1/2 of those. I think there were about 500 pages or so when I started. Here are some pics of my latest harvest. I took my Blue Blood most of the way down. I left the bottom 1/4-1/3 to fill out a little more. :peace:

Hello everyone (and Sara!), thanks for this great thread. I'm an ex-HPS grower of 7 years that is finally looking to make the jump to LED's. My intensive research has me looking at the lights offered by Mars Hydro, and the posts in this thread have given me the confidence needed to take the leap of faith.

I think I've settled on using a few of the Reflector series of lights in my room, but would like some input on actual LED wattage per square foot. I have a grow room that is 4ft x 12 ft, and plan on going with a 3ft x 8ft SCROG for 24 sqft of growing area. Previously, I have used 2 x 600W HPS to cover roughly the same area. The coverages of the Reflector LED lights are listed, but I believe that they are a little exaggerated and want to make sure that I have enough light. My plan is to order 2 x Reflector 144's and 1 x Reflector 96. The 2 x 144's will be set up parallel lengthwise, pretty much touching, to cover a roughly 3 ft x 5.5 ft area. The Reflector 96 will be turned sideways and added onto the end of the other two lights to cover the remaining 2 ft x 3 ft swath. This gives a total of 670 - 800 actual watts (based on manufacturer's specs) for 24 sqft of canopy space = 27-33 actual watts per square foot. I've been reading that 25 actual LED watts/sqft is sufficient, is this the correct amount of lighting for my planned SCROG? Are the 3 Reflector lights I am planning on buying my best option? I am trying to minimize fans and noise in my set-up, and would like the coolest running lights possible, which is why I am looking at these lights over the Mars II, but any and all suggestions welcome. it is better to aim 45-50 watt/sqft to have result comparable to HPS.

the best replacement for a 600W HPS are the mars2 1200W or the NEW reflector 192X5 maybe not bad .... old reflector 192X3 is little short of power.

old reflector(192x3) consume around 360W and the new reflector (192X5) around 420W true watt. 2 panels of mars2 900W maybe not bad too, but not full power as 600W HPS. go for the all new reflector 192 with 5W chips ..... 2 panels 144X5 + 1 panel 96X5 maybe good yes. but with 5W chips, not 3W.

LEDCanuck2 Welcome!

Colorado Finest runs a lot of different Mars Hydro lights and he is a great source of information. Check out his Grow Journals on this site as well as his videos on youtube. I know of one video in particular where he is running 3 144's. I haven't seen the "real" specs on the 144x5 as it seems the info is still the info for the 144x3s on the sight. The coverage on the lights are slightly exaggerated as the 1600 is more like 4.5x4.5 than 5x5. I too plan on buying the reflectors assuming they are more like 5.5 x 2 coverage area. It was confirmed the draw from wall is also slightly lower than advertised. Don't let that deter you as people swear by these lights and have shown good evidence of their capability.

this is for full light power flowering like HPS ... less than that can be good, but is not full power.
 
:circle-of-love:MarsII is daisy-chain compatible. You can plug Reflection with MarsII, just make sure the total power will not exceed 1000w. :circle-of-love:

Yes, 144 X 5 is 720W, I get that. I am referring to actual Watts from the wall. As Sara told me,

MarsII 1600w and 3pcs Reflector 144x5w both can cover 5'x5'. The difference lies in the draw power.
The draw power of MarsII 1600w is about 780w under 110V.
The draw power of Reflector 144x5w is about 208w under 110v with Veg on and 316w with Veg and Bloom on.
For 3pcs Reflector 144x5w, you will get 624w in total with Veg on and 948w in total with Veg and Bloom on.

3pcs Reflector 144x5w Full Spectrum will draw more watt than MarsII 1600w. The light distribution of 3pcs will be better than 1pcs.:circle-of-love:

So it's not 720W it's 208 -316W. The website states 250-300W. Don't forget that the reflectors have 3 Fans which use some of those Watts also. So I was referring to not knowing the watts (from the wall) of just the lights as I do not know the watt draw of the fans.
 
yes, reflector series is upgrading to 5W ..... you have to be sure you buy the right one theses days, cause we are in the middle of the change.

Its hard to compare HPS to LED watt for watt. LED grow lights are designed to produce only the wavelengths used by plants therefore there is no wasted light.

Earlier today I came across a youtube video that compared the results of a 600 watt LED (draw watts) vs a 1000w HPS. The 2 produced more or less the same weight, within a few grams of one another, but the LED drew 400 less watts. (not to mention the heat difference)

But even more interesting was that they had the bud lab tested and the LED out preformed the HPS in both potency and terpenoid levels.

Something to consider more than just raw power
 
OLD reflectors with 3W chips consume 90W true watts for each 48X3 led panel ..... NEW reflectors with 5W chips consume 105W true watts for each 48X5 led panel.

new reflector 192X5 consume 105W X 4 ... so 420W ... nothing more or less

true watts = watts from the wall = actual power = power draw :thumb:

To replace a 1000W HPS (4'X4'), high quality panels (kindled) use around 500-600W true watts .... and medium quality (mars hydro) use around 750-900W true watts

but mars hydro panels cost 1/4 of the price!!!

they also produce just little more heat than high qualitys leds panels. only little more. .... nothing to compare to HPS
