Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

So with that size tent(12 plants) the Mars II 1200watt two of them would be good enough but not overkill right?

4x8 = 32

2x1200 = 2400

Actual draw from 2400w of Mars II LEDs - (approx) 1200w

1200 / 32 = 37.5 watts per square foot, which is just about ok, although a bit low imo.

Personally i'd go for 2 x 1600w, then you also have the option of switching in veg and flower.

I run 2300w total in a 5x5, which works out at 46w per square foot, and it doesn't seem like overkill to me, but i scrog and use all of the available space. If you dont plan on going right to the edges of the tent, 2 x 1200w units will probably do just fine.

good lord that a sexy setup

I know it is around 50%. I'm just looking for an actual reading as I have power constraints that I cannot go over.

....they vary.

I've seen claimed ameter readings range anywhere from 410w to 440w, it depends upon your specific unit, they don't seem to be consistent in terms of draw from one unit to the next.

If you have power constraints, allow for 450w, i can guarantee it won't be more than that. Much more likely to be around 420.

If a MH II 400W works for a 3 x 3 area would a 700W work even better?

The MH II 400w would probably suit an area of 2x2, while the 700w would fit a 3x3 area. Probably would do even better in a 2.5x2.5 or 3x2 area. My 700w use's 330w from the wall and based on 35w per sq ft. x 9sq ft=315w needed, so the 700w is a perfect fit for a 3x3 as long as your plants don't get to tall.

Where has this figure of 35w per square foot come from? I keep reading it on this thread, and i've never seen it anywhere else. Almost all grow room calculators and experienced growers i've come across advise between 40 and 60w, with 50 being optimum.

I'm not saying they're right, i just have no idea where 35 has come from :hmmmm:

I agree with you... 50 is optimal but the range is 35 to 50... I was given this range by KingJohnC if I am not mistaken... I'm sure he will fly through in a bit and confirm....
I use my LEDs from tiny babies on up to full bloom and the journal I am using my Top Led/Mars-Hydro in is in my signature..... Dennise No longer the Newiest of Newbies and not growing in MG.....:circle-of-love:

35 watts per square foot is what Colorados Finest always uses when asked how to calculate how much light is needed with led lighting. I have seen him use 35 watts per square foot in alot of his post. With Hid, I know many use 50 per sq ft as minimum.
