Mars-Hydro LED Grow Light Discussion

The COB is only 100 watt, so it's a very very small lamp. No doubt you would get much more light if you buy a Epistar 120. The 120 is around 400 watt

Thanks for the reply, yes I meant the cob, how well do you expect it to do compared to the Mars Pro II Epistar 120. I can only afford one light at the moment and am unsure if I should buy the 120 or wait till the cob is available.
Thanks

I have live pollen ,lots of males and stored pollen .
Put your pollen in a ziplock bag within another ziplock bag in a jar in the freezer .
If u can vacuum seal then beautiful it will last a long time many years if not it will still last a couple years but as time goes on it will become less viable so better to keep those strains your working on progressing towards your goal as your females get better so to will your males .

Thanks PlantWrestler! Really appreciate it.

open question - If I pollinate a photo with pollen from an auto - how many percentages of the seeds will be autoflower vs photo?

Thanks, its the power that's confusing me, the cob is rated at 2.5*2.5 feet area at less watts but the pro 120 is rated at 1.5*2 area with lots more watts.

Does that mean the pro 120 can flower taller plants and get more bigger buds from a smaller floor space with the cob being more suited to a sea of green producing smaller buds,

I'm just trying to work out why the cob is more expensive per watt, if it's more efficient or more reliable.

I might have to wait till I've seen the finished product from the cob when someone tests it.
Thanks

I understand. I don't know really when it comes to the COB. It perhaps spreads the light better like the reflector series. Less intense light but bigger coverage. According to SmokeSara the pro II 80 is more powerful. one 160 is two 80's so there is no doubt which has the more power. The COB is completely silent though. That's kinda cool.

Where did you find the price of the COB?

In a nutshell, COB's use less power to create more light. There is less thermal loss/heat generation and no need for a focusing lens or a reflector housing (like the current Mars lights) due to their dispersion. The light bandwidth is broader — including 'white' light. Everything I have read says that they are great grow lights with a big following in the DIY market. Since it is the latest tech, prices are still relatively high compared to conventional LEDs.

Thanks for that explanation. I've seen a few DIY cob builds and they really look nice

Thanks for that explanation.

I sold lighting & light bulbs in an earlier life & this is just the newest twist. That said, in 5 years (or less), many of us will be using them to grow. Better is better, but the products have to mature a bit imho.

I can't wait to try them out ,I grow a lot of plants. Big plants and i think these mars LEDs from what I see could help me improve even further ,Sara let me test one and end this debate of led vs hps ,inbox me!

They're fantastic. I used HPS before and I got much better results from LED than I ever did from HPS. To be fair - When I grew with HPS I had really shitty conditions and was doomed to fail, so I never got to do a fair comparison

Thanks for that information.
I think I'll get a 160 soon and see what these cob LEDs can produce when a couple of grow diaries have completed and might treat myself at Christmas and get a cob if I see good results.

On page 2299 it says new design,COB Cree,Osram chips, the price is around $249.99USD

This little lady is less than two weeks out from harvest. Grown under a Mars-Hydro Reflector 96.

Morning :) Did anyone win that contest yet?

Wait.... This is a sunday? Hmmmm. That means Sara was working overtime yesterday?

@SmokeSara - Check out what they're building in Datong, China! This is so cool! They're planning to make these panda's many places on the planet. China is really taking the lead in green energy

"(Datong China, 29 June 2017) The world's leading eco-development solutions provider, Panda Green Energy Group Limited (00686.HK, “Panda Green Energy”, formerly known as “United Photovoltaics Group Limited”) is pleased to announce that the world’s first Panda Power Plant in Datong Shanxi was officially connected to the grid and is currently in testing phase.Datong Panda Power Plant has an install capacity of 100MW, of which the first phase 50MW project was successfully connected to grid. Panda Green Energy formally proposed to construct Panda Power Plant in May 2016, and signed a cooperation agreement with the United Nations Development Program on 1 September. In the same year on 20 November, Datong Panda Power Plant was officially launched. On 14 May this year at the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing, the Panda Power Plant project was formally incorporated into the Action Plan on Jointly Promoting "Belt and Road" Construction signed by the Chinese government and the United Nations, becoming the important landing projects of China “Belt and Road” initiative.Datong Panda Power Plant is the starting point of the Panda Green Energy’s global layout on the Panda Power Plant, which is of great significance to the global green energy application, green concept communication and energy transformation. A 100MW Panda Power Plant can provide 3.2 billion kWh of green electricity in 25 years, equivalent to saving 1.056 million tons of coal, or reduce 2.74 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. In the next five years, Panda Green Energy will carry out the "Panda 100 Program", build Panda Power Plants along the “Belt and Road” countries and areas, and bring in the integrated multi-energy green ecological solutions."

Looking fine! I harvested two of my auto's today. Didn't get more than 20 grams perhaps per plant, but it's 20 grams more than I had yesterday and it will keep me from stealing buds from the flowering photos :)
