Maine 4-Season Greenhouse Grow

Morning Mr Blew.....hope you guys are staying cooler than we are. Just turned on the Tele and about to watch Mexico vs Brazil. Only supposed to be low to mid 90s here today......gtfo with that crap, no thanks.
We escaped that somehow....weekend highs were just around 80F...today is 66F...:)

We signed up for a 2-month special on Sling.com...let's us watch the games on demand (usually the next am with the kids).

Well I won't spoil any results for you (not that there is much to report 16 min into the game)! Good game so far. Mexico has never beat Brazil in world cup but they are putting a lot of pressure on Brazil's defense early on.

Went for our annual strawberry picking trip this morning where we get about 30 quarts to make jam for the year. The farmer has about 300 acres and does beef, pork, and crops (fruit and veg). We park the car and get out and my wife says "is that what I think it is?".... I turn to look and see this....

How can you not just shake your head and smile?? Just then the farmer rolls up (they were busy and he was kind enough to give me the scoop in about 5 minutes) and indeed he is growing 3 acres of industrial hemp for sale and 5 acres for sillage/fiber (he apparently uses the stalks to burn his blueberry fields...he says he's never seen anything burn hotter). Turns out it is totally legit to register and grow under the State of Maine Dept of Ag and has nothing to do with the Federal oversight....which is obviously crucial. Turns out his first 100lb bag of hemp seeds (which "fell from the sky") gave him 2 acres last year and from that he got 2000lbs of seeds for this year (and he has leftover and will get as many this year). Says he thinks he could probably even legit sell the seeds. Says the State comes in and tests the hemp (no charge) prior to harvest and if the thc is higher than x you have to burn it.

He says the pigs and cattle love it, it cleans the soil (like us, he does rotational planting), grows easily, and he gets $25/lb for it (he harvested 6,000 lbs last year). State permit to grow under 3 acres is....$50.

I love Maine!

So we are definitely planting some of this as well next year....got a perfect strip of dirt on my cranky neighbors side of the property!

Mexico looks strong so far....

Ok, but did he have strawberries? You have me wanting some strawberry shortcake now! Totally cool about the hemp.

Yeah, we got as many as we needed in no time...bumper crop this year. Wife making jam and for one of our kids birthday this week chcocolate cake with strawberry jam filling and chocolate frosting and fresh strawberries..

I am surprised you would want to do this / all those males are not going to be no good with tring to grow females !? They have that around here and i read they had problems getting seed at one time and the price was out there for them . Of coarse if you move the GH grow down to the other larger one that would work and still make your neighbors happy .:slide:

If seed is crazy $ then not really interested...I got the impression it would be cheap, but I will know when I go back this Fall and have a chat....

He actually remarked that his neighbors we not happy because obviously they are also growing, but not hemp! C'est la vie.

If I am in a GH it should keep most, if not all of the cross pollination issues to a minimum. Only one way to find out....

Plus, let's be honest, who doesn't want to walk through a field of hemp???

Finally got some heat today...88F and humid...GH peaked at 106F but the ladies love it since there is always a convective breeze. Jumped in the pond twice to cool off...summer...:slide:
Was hanging around 100 degrees here today and humid as hell. No thanks....I moved away from Florida for a reason!

75 on the lake today.... doesnt get much better. Well the fishing could have been I guess
