-4F this morning, 20F in the GH, and 75F in the Box. Was nervous last night since I did one more modification on the Box (pictures coming) where I cut a 4" hole on the side of the insulation and inserted a foot of 4" drainage pipe. The idea was to allow some heat and water vapor to escape since RH is still higher than I wanted.
Seems to have worked since Box was 55% rh.

And...whoops! Learned today that poly on the Box during a sunny day is no bueno, with max temps in GH and Box hitting 112F. Everything looks good, but I think the poly is unnecessary at this point and with the addition of the Vent. Idea is this allows just enough breathing for the box to keep the RH down as well as equalizing the heat during the day when the GH fan is running.

Yes, I have 700 feet of 4" drainage pipe set in 30,000 lbs of crushed granite. GH is 12x24' and depth of stone is 18". A 30" fan draws hot air from 8' height.

Sweet when you have a minute could you post a pic of how the pipes are all connected? I'm thinking there must be a plenum of some sort?

Foundation framed using Hemlock beams and then laid the drainage pipe in equal lengths running from plenum (50 gallon plastic barrel with top cut off) emerging opposite end of GH. I use a $60 commercial fan from Amazon that easily moves air on the lowest setting. I directed one of these exhausts directly into the Box.
First three photos from our first Active Solar GH measuring 12x24' and the last photo is a larger one we built @ 16x48'.
So the foundation get filled with crushed stone? Large black tub filled with water? And warm air pumped into bucket though weeping tile?

Yes...mostly. Dumptruck backed up to foundation and poured stone into foundation over tubing. The blocks were put into keep them from shifting (and I forgot to do that for the larger GH and it was a PIA to spread rock and keep tubing from shifting). 300 gallon stock tank is for our aquaponics (using goldfish) and I countersunk that to help moderate H20 temps. All tubing (on one end) connects to plenum and downward facing 30" fan pulls hot air from above and pushes through to exiting pipes on end of GH. Passage of warm air is slowly absorbed by the thermal mass (crushed stone) as is much of the humidity. I have recorded exiting temps to be, on average, 20F less than draw. RH is high in the winter because the GH is sealed tight. I see RH drop from 80 to 35 rh after running the fans (on a sunny day) for 6 hours. From April to November I swap out 24ft2 of poly on the south side and 10ft2 on east and west (and screen entry door on north) to allow plenty of natural cross ventilation.

Week 8.5:
Wanted to get some photos before we get hit with another 8-10" of snow/freezing rain. Everything looking good and I think the temp/RH issue has been solved with the addition of the 4" vent pipe in the side of the box. Just keeping an eye on things and watering as needed. Maybe another week or so and then they are done (sooner than I expected). One (1) of the Diesel Autos has popped...the other not yet (maybe never at this point). They were freebies so no drama and will make more room for the Jack Herer Auto Group Grow .

Seedsman. They were double-freebies. I paid with bitcoin and they gave me a "bitcoin bundle" on top on the other freebies (though, of course, they doubled their money a week later!)
Nice... I tried diesel autos my first 2 times... not the best the for cutting your teeth. I'm sure you'll blow it out the water.

That is an awesome design!!!! I love using that solar heat to keep the plants feet warm. Awesome. Is this a common method for GH's? I've only been indoor.
