Magnus8's Coco Coir Big Bud & Pineapple Express, First Grow Ever! Grow Journal

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Big bud sure is a killer. I never had a branch snap due to weight though, but I used to grow with "scrog" so I guess they got all the support they needed. The buds are massive and the smoke is Zzzzzleepy :) I love that strain. Currently growing 3 big-buds myself alongside with 3 other strains. It is also a very beautiful plant through the entire vegg and bloom phase. Has a little sativa look perhaps but most certainly hits like an indica. Here is a big-bud leaf from my current grow :)

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Okay. I'm going to try this again. Earlier attempt at uploading pics didn't work because of my slow internet connection (we went over our allotted usage amount)

So I topped my last big bud the other day and have now repotted them all except my damaged little girl. All those that I've repotted have EXPLODED in growth. Not so for my damaged little girl, unfortunately... You can really see a difference with her, now again. Not that she's doing poorly, just that she's clearly not up to speed with the others.

So anyway, here they are! My Big Buds are the first two pigs and my Pineapple Express are the last two.

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Looking good! They are gonna be bushy, I can't wait to see them in about 2 weeks!

Hey PE636,

Not sure you'll be seeing much in two weeks. Hope to have them underneath a scrog by that time!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Topping and a 5 gallon pot. Your looking some incredible plants there Magnus8. Plus they exploded, it's game on from here. Those girls are only gonna pick up speed. Keep it up

Hey Rideouts,

Thanks for the encouragement, I really appreciate it. Yes, the 5 gallons are making all the difference. Plus my wife-bot (Ginette) constructed a flood and drain system for them. Well, most of them. Only 3 of them fit into the flood table, while my damaged little girl has to wait until I can repot her. I couldn't repot her because I ran out of coco! I'll pick some up when I go in for my dr appointment tomorrow in Edmonton. Yea, yet another trip into Edmonton tomorrow.

This trip tomorrow is a very important trip. I don't know if you all remember, or even if I told you all what happened, but I might as well now.

When I went to the dr appointment -- the one who was supposed to prescribe the cannabis for me instead of this bloody Fentanyl -- he told me that because I'm bipolar he was reluctant to prescribe the cannabis. Apparently, the Canadian govt has issued a warning that prescribed cannabis may produce manic episodes in bipolar people. He wanted to get my own psych to sign off on my cannabis prescription, but I told him that my psych would never do that because he had already told me he'd never prescribe cannabis for any of his patients. Old school, bloody Alberta boy is all he is, and not a great psych, either. So I told this to the dr and he decided that I should see the pain clinic's in-house psych to see if she would sign off on my cannabis use/prescription. I agreed, and tomorrow is the appointment with this psych. At least she's used to cannabis prescriptions, since she works at the pain clinic and there are quite a few patients there with the prescription.

If all goes well tomorrow, she will sign off on the cannabis use for me with the other dr, and then he'll prescribe it for me. At this point, I have no idea if she'll sign off on it. I'm going to tell her how I went through a one year period using cannabis for pain about 4 years ago and it never once made me manic during that time. And I'll tell her that I've used it occassionally during these past 6 years and have had no problems with it. But I really don't know which way the pendulum will sway for me tomorrow. And I don't know how long it'll take to get another appointment with the dr who prescribes it, either. It shouldn't take too long. When I made an appointment with him before, I got in to see him rather quickly. And he clearly will prescribe it, if the psych signs off on it, because he was already talking about how we will take mme down off the Fentanyl slowly only after ensuring that the cannabis works for me. Like, he was talking as though he had no problem prescribing it for me, so I can't imagine that he'll say NO when -- IF -- the psych signs off.

And like Ginette (the wife-bot we've all come to know and love) says, Magnus, I don't give a shit what they say. We're going to do this one way or another. We're already growing cannabis for your pain and anxiety. We'll continue to grow it whatever they say. And soon enough it'll be legal throughout the country anyway. So what they say won't matter then, anyway.

Gotta love that wife-bot of mine. She's a real gem!

And now it's evening and I've been busy all day doing things, so my back is killing me. Tonight I've been cooking up a storm! I've got a pot of sweet tomato baked beans in the slow cooker which will cook all night and be ready to take with us tomorrow for our lunch. And the timer on the rice cooker just shut the cooker onto WARM, so the rice for dinner is done. And I've got Curried Chicken Tikka marinating in a bowl on the counter, ready to go in the oven as soon as the wife-bot wakes from her late evening nap. Then I'll throw on some veggies and dinner will be ready. I tend to be the cook in the family while Ginette builds things out of wood and such.

The flood and drain system is working beautifully. Ginette and I were out in the sheds today trying to find wood we can use to build a table/support for the flood and drain system. She's going to angle the table to accomodate the needs of the system. When she's done I'll have a 4x4 foot table in my 5x5x6.5 tent that the plants will sit upon, inside their fabric pots inside their flood trays. The table will accommodate 3 flood trays and will be space for 9 plants in the trays in their 5 gallon fabric pots. Not bad, I'm thinking to myself. Not bad at all. Considering what we started out with. Shows what you can do with almost no money, some generous friends at Christmas time and a shitload of ingenuity!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Good luck with the appointment Magnus! But like your wife said.. who gives a shit, ur still well on your way. You are clearly doing it for medicinal purposes and wanting to ween off synthetic pills. I see no harm in that, just gotta be more careful if it goes that way. Sounds like if they have an in house shrink it'll be ok. Just obviously make sure to say you're perfect lol jk but u know what I mean

I hope the shrink sign those papers for you so you can be legal. I must say I do envy you people who have a more normalized situation regarding growing. I would go to prison for a long long time if I were to be discovered, so I am extremely cautious. I don't even say which country I am in. Continent Europe :)

We had to cancel the appointment! Damn!

Inclement weather here. Snow, freezing rain. My wife-bot is terrified to drive in these conditions and I don't blame her. But now the appointment has been set back to 27 February. Earliest I could get in to see the psych now. Damn. Damn damn damn damn damn.

Oh well. That's life.

On a really positive note, my girls are just exploding with growth. I used some lst on them yesterday, just tucking some leaves in behind other leaves to expose some other important areas on the plants. Ginette is going to have the table set up for the plants by Friday, she says. That's great. Then I'll be able to get all my plants into the water/feeding trays and they'll all be fed by the flood and drain system. I'll also be able to set up my scrog then, too. CAN'T WAIT TO SET UP THE SCROG!!! Really, cannot wait to see it all set up. I feel like I've been waiting for it for so damned long. I'm just so curious about it.

Hope we don't have as many difficulties setting up the rest of the water trays (3 in all for feeding 9 plants in total) as we did in the first. I don't think that'll happen. I think we went through a lot of growing pains with the first one, and now that it's set up almost perfectly (we still have to install a small drain with a plug in the corner of the tray), we shouldn't have the same problems. And if we do, we know how to fix those issues, now, don't we?

So that's the good news in this otherwise bleak day that I'm having. Waiting on the edits from my editor so that I can get started working on Finding Max again. Looking forward to those.

And beyond that, everything is fine. I'll try to get some pics up later tonight.

Until then, I remain,

Safety first. Keep your freezing rain, as it's suppose to hit us sometime tonight, shakes head. None the less can always see a doc another day right. Happy to hear your girls are on the right track. I want to see pics dang it lol.
I just started my next set of girls.
3 strains white widow, shiatsu kush and green crack.

What are your plans for your next set of ladies??

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Hey Rideouts! Nice to hear from you. Have you just finished growing and are starting a new one? If so, is it the maui-waui grow that you've just finished? AND... have you got pics up of your recent grow? I'd like to see your haul. How many plants did you grow this time out?I was there at your journal early last week I think it was and you had some beautiful trichomes built up from those CFLs you were using on the sides of the grow. I'd love to hear how that finally worked out for you because I was thinking of doing the same.

I've got a 600w led for the veg part, a 1000w led for the blooming and a couple of CFLs to use, too. I'd like to stick those CFLs on the sides of the grow (I'm doing a 4 plant scrog system in hydro coco with a flood and drain table system to feed my girls). I'm hoping to come up with a similar grow site as yours. BTW -- my tent is 5x5x6.5, so I've got room for a 4x4 scrog. Do you think that a 4x4 scrog would be adequate for 4 girls? Or is it too big of a space? I just don't know any more. I've gone over and over this in my mind to the point of not having any idea what will happen. Mind you, with how stunted my girls are, I have no idea what will happen with this grow. Unless they begin to grow soon there'll be nothing to tuck around and into the scrog!

So that's my story, and I'm sticking to it! Seriously, that's what is happening on this end of my grow. Lots going on, that's for sure. I'll be sure to take pics tomorrow and upload them to the site.

Until then, I remain,...

Forgot to tell you what I'm doing with my next grow. Same lights and sccrogging setup, BUT I'll be growing a choice of these strains that I've ordered seeds for just this last week (not sure which I will choose from. btw -- how many plants should I grow in a 4x4 scrog?)

Blue Dream
Critical Mass
Cinderella 99
AK47
Ice Bomb
Kali Mist

So those are my choices. I've got several of each strain.

Gotta run. Wife needs computer.

Yes, I know. And the Critical Mass is supposed to be amazing for pain. I'm probably going to grow that one for sure. And the Kali Mist and the Ice Bomb look really interesting to me too. The Kali Mist is great for both pain AND anxiety -- both of which I deal with on a constant basis. And the Ice Bomb is supposed to be particularly good for both anxiety and pain, too! I'm thrilled that I found all these seeds at the same place. Some of them, like the ones I didn't mention in my post, were freebies, and they're not so exciting. But the ones I picked out that are listed are great looking seeds. Should be, they cost me enough!

Re: Magnus8's - Coco Coir - Big Bud & Pineapple Express - First Grow Ever! - Grow Jou

Okay, so it's been a while since I've posted on here. My back has been really bad so I've been unable to take pics at all. May sound strange, but there's the bending to pick up the camera, the bending to get inside the tent, the bending over to take the pics and all that jazz. So all that bending, well I've been unable to do at all.

I had a back appointment yesterday for shots, and they aren't helping at all. We've decided to discontinue the shots because they just aren't helping, and they require that 4 hour drive to Edmonton and back. That 4 hour drive in the car just about does my back in for the rest of the week. And it really does my wife-bot (Ginette) in, too. She's not used to driving for 4 hours in a day, and neither am I. That combined with the time out of our day (it works out to at least 6 hours away from home, what with the drive, the shopping we sind up doing, the appointment, the shots, etc.) it just doesn't seem worth it if the shots aren't working.

But now I'm out of options. There's only the cannabis for my back. They're taking the Fentanyl and the T4s away (they reminded me again yesterday, as if I needed reminding!). Did I tell you all what happened at my last appointment with the doctor who prescribes the cannabis? He said that because I'm bipolar they couldn't just prescribe it. They needed my psych to sign off on it. I told them that my psych would never sign off on my cannabis use. he had told me already. So they said that I had to see their in-house psych and see if she would sign off on it. So now I've got an appointment with her on 27 Feb 17 to see if she'll sign off on my cannabis use. If that happens, then they said they will prescribe it for me for sure. What a fucking nightmare this is all becoming. What a bunch of unnecessary hoops to jump through, eh? Whatever. I'll do the jumping. I can be a good little dog when i need to. Dressed in tights and frilly little skirts. Yeah I can be that little mutt, jumping through hoops of fire. What a fucking stupid mess. But one day, I'll look back on this an laugh. Yeah, right.

So, onto better things. I've got some pics to show you...

These first four pics are of my two Pineapple Express. You can see that three of my plants have been transplanted into cloth pots. Only my damaged little girl hasn't been yet. I ran out of coco, you might remember. Bought some yesterday, but don't have the room for her in the tray yet. Wife-bot Ginette will be fixing all this by tomorrow night. She's building me a table to set them all down upon and fixing up another flood tray for the flood and drain system, which will be the home of my damaged little girl. But my PEs are doing well, even if I have to admit it. You can see I've done some lst this afternoon. Just trying to move some fan leaves out of the way of other parts that need light. Like the pipe cleaner colours? I do! Check 'em out:

And this is my Big Bud that I transplanted into the cloth pot, too.

And here's my damaged little girl, who isn't in her own cloth pot yet, but still in the ceramic pot. She just isn't growing like the rest, most likely because she isn't in a cloth pot. They all really took off when I transplanted them into those cloth pots, let me tell you. Like weeds.

DSC_92681.JPG
DSC_92671.JPG

And here's something I thought you'd find interesting. Ginette and I put grommets into the sides of the cloth pots, for lst-ing specifically. The work really well, and look great too, I think.

DSC_92691.JPG

I was having a problem with condensation collecting at the bottom of the tent. Too humid in it. So I placed a fan at the bottom of the tent to wick it up from the floor and also opened a flap down there for the humidity to get pushed out by the fan.

DSC_92711.JPG
DSC_92721.JPG

And here's the pump of the flood and drain system working well. I love this thing, let me tell you! No more breaking my back in two trying to feel my demented little girls! I LOVE it! I LOVE it! I really, really do.

DSC_92701.JPG

And so that's all the pics that I have for you tonight. Looking forward to hearing from you all. Have a great, safe night everyone.

Love the flood and drain setup! Looks good, I'm very glad to hear that this will help save your back some unnecessary stress.

But I do have to say that I love your wife's grommets on those cloth bags! genius idea, I would've done the same myself if I knew how lol. quite surprised they all don't come standard like that (business idea?) patent pending patent pending! Lmao.

Girls are looking good too.. keep up the good work!

The grommets were actually my idea, though she had the application skills, having worked with fabric all her life.

Buy them at wall mart in the sewing section. They've got instructions on the back. They come with a little tool that helps you pound the grommet together. After your first bag of 8 or so, you own the tool, so then buy bags of grommets for really cheap at Fabricland or some comparable store without the tool. They are really cheap that way. And then you're good to go!

The flood and drain setup was all Ginette, my wife-bot. She conceived it and put the whole thing together. It works amazingly well. But I've got some questions for you:

1) How often do I change the solutions for new?
2) How do I use a ppm meter with this setup? Am I supposed to? I have no idea at all how this works, so any info you have would be helpful.
3) How often do I check the pH of my solution? I checked it yesterday after getting my new pH meter (gotta love that meter!) and the reading came out to about 5.6 or 5.8. It was doing a bit of going up and down, but that's where it stayed between. This is good, right? Under 6.0 and above 5.5. Or have I got my numbers wrong. I tried to check on the internet, but got very different "perfect" numbers from different sites. Had a hard time finding the right pH for growing in coco.
4) How many days do I feed my babies just water instead of solution?

Anyway, Kush, I hope you got my messages on your journal. Nice journal, btw. Great photos, too. And I want to take another moment to thank you for all the help you've given me with my own grow. I've really appreciated it, as I hope you know.

1) you change the solution once a week. If you can cover your reservoir with a lid to keep light out it will allow you to keep your nutrients longer before changing out.

2) PPM meter auto calibrates so you just pop it in your resvervoir to check. You are in early stages of veg so your ppm should be around 300-500. Some plants/strains have higher and lower feeding demands but generally speaking for early veg that's the range you're looking at. You can gauge by your nutrient chart or looking at the bottle feed instructions, usually you want to go lower then what they recommend but again all depends on plants depends. You can add/lower ppm levels by judging nutrient deficiencies.

3) PH should be checked once a day, if you're home all day then I would check twice. when using more nutrients down the road your PH levels can quickly change. I had mine go from 5.8 to 7.5 in one day. I would say for coco 5.8 is the perfect balance give or take .1-.2 each way will be fine. make sure your PH pen gets calibrated every couple of days if you do frequent checks because even a couple of days without calibration can give you incorrect readings if you're using the pen often.

4) NEVER give them just water, always feed feed feed! Once a month you should top feed with a low nutrient solution 200-300ppm to flush out any buildup of salts in your coco mix, other then that coco always needs nutrients each time they are fed. at this point I would feed them once or twice a day, once they really establish then 3-4. You will get the hang of it over time as you get to know how your plants react to everything.
