Magnus8's Canna Cream, Body Butter & Canna Lotion Study Hall

Oh My goodness:goodjob:

Great job everyone. I just spent all Morning reading up on this :cheertwo::cheertwo: all 39 pages

Im going to attempt my 1st Batch of Butter/Lotion or whatever it is exactly:thumb:

This is designed for Pain relief and muscle strain. Will be using a few types of Strains I tested that are from local Dispensaries. Most have High THC and some decent CBD

So far I have

Grape seed Oil
Sweet Almond Oil

Tea Tree Oil

Following landing tomorrow
Cocoa Butter
Bees Wax Pellets
Lavender Oil
Peppermint Oil
Vitamin E Oil

I do have a few Questions

Best way to Infuse the Grape Seed oil with the Buds? Sue did hers in a Jar, shaken, then at 170deg for 36hrs. Ive seen the Decarb Method and bake for 8hrs

whats the best/easiest for a rookie like Me???

Cant wait to add another option into this new AGAIN world of MMJ.

Hey Stavman!

How nice to see you found our little corner of this big 420mag world! Seriously, very nice to have you along for the ride.

First of all, nomenclature: What you are making is called either a cream or a butter. It is not a lotion. A lotion is a different beast all together.

Now onto more important stuff.

You may want to decarb your buds first. You do this especially if your butter is meant to address pain. THCa doesn't help much (apparently) with pain. You need high THC to deal with pain in a cream or butter or lotion. Your choice, but my preference is always to decarb my weed before infusing it in oil(s).

One way to work your buds and the oils that the cannabinoids need to be suffused into is this. First of all, get a crockpot or a slowcooker. Turn it on high. Add your oil(s) to it, then add your ground up buds. You need to grind your buds to a medium courseness, not too fine or you'll have a devil of a time separating the oils from the weed at the end of the process.

After adding your weed to the oil(s), wait until the oils become rather hot but not to a boiling point. Then turn down your crockpot to low and cover it. Leave it sit for between 24 - 36 hours to allow the cannabinoids to extract into the oil(s).

After the time period is up, remove the oil from the crockpot by pouring it into a bowl or jar using a cheesecloth to extract the cannabis from the oil(s). Be sure to squeeze as much of the oil from the leftover buds as you can.

That process should leave you with some richly infused oils.

Be sure to turn down your crockpot from high to low. You only turn it up to high to get the process started quicly. You can even choose not to turn it on to high at all, but just to leave the cannabis and oil(s) to extract everything during the 24 - 36 hours in which it infuses.

I hope that helps some. If you have further questions, don't be afraid to ask them here. We're all here to help each other.

Best,
Magnus.

I won't have the lecithin but I can try it next time

We're not all that certain that lecithin makes a difference in the topicals Stavman. The recipe I follow is Dave Groomer's basic recipe, and it doesn't call for any. Used in edibles it greatly enhances bioavailibity by making the cannabinoids absorb more efficiently, but topicals work with the skin system, not the gut.

And so the adventure Begins:thumb::thanks::circle-of-love::circle-of-love::circle-of-love:

Cocoa butter....I need cocoa butter. Keep forgetting. Thanks for the memory jog Scorpio. :hugs: You look like you mean serious business. Good job. You'll be amazed at how effective this is for just about everything.

Hey Scorpio,

What's your recipe? I'm especially curious about the hot sauce. Wherever did you get the idea that you needed chilli pepper oil? I"ve never heard of it in a topical. My first thoughts is that it would seriously irritate the skin, especially any broken skin. Not to mention eyes... But I doubt you're planning on using this on your face, mind you. But seriously, you may be onto something of which I'm unawares, so I'm still curious about the hot sauce...

Everything else looks great.

But show us your recipe. Maybe someone here would have some pointers for you. I've got some ideas on how to use beeswax, having used it in topicals for the past 30 years myself while I've been making lotions and butters all this time. I've also used Sweet Almond Oil and a few of your other oils extensively, too, in my career as a soap and lotion maker.

Best,
Magnus

The hot sauce was a bit of a joke..once I saw it in my picture...but seriously Cayann essential oil has great pain properties I've read...I know in cooking it's fantastic and has great health properties as well. So it for sure will be in one if my test cases

My recipe is from this thread ...my 1st try...it's the same as Sue's she used. Been in the oven for 24hrs....hurry up 6am....lol

I also found a chart that talks about how much essential oil to add. I was thinking like 5drops of each in 4oz of oil...but it seems ya add much more.

I did a test run, minus the infused oil, and came out nice .
Love the cocoa butter smell. Wife wanted to use some on her dry skin before she left for work. She is excited for tomorrows batch
I'll probably use this as my base for tomorrow when I add the oil and more essential oils

Fun fun fun

You guys are going to love your magic potion. I made some a little while back and it's the go to stuff for small cuts and bruises. It works great on sore muscles from working out. My muddier in law likes it for her arthritis.
I have neuropathy in my hands and feet from chemo and it has done nothing for it,
I would recommend you whip the day lights out of your potion, it gives it a nice light feel

Moe, how long have you been using it for the neuropathy? The panelists I watched suggested you need to be consistent in application for months before you may begin to feel the relief, but they all had patients that used it for neuropathy and got that relief. One mentioned that she had a patient that it took five months of twice-daily applications, morning and night.

Fun fun fun

How much cocoa butter did you use in proportion to the beeswax? I'm ordering mine today.

It is fun to make a cream. Come to think of it, every canna concoction I've created was great fun. :battingeyelashes:

I was doing a mix with 8oz of grape oil and added 9gr of cocoa to the mix. I originally subbed it for the bees wax but ended up adding the beeswax back in...so basically I just added the cocoa to the mix

It's 5am....pulled the infused oil out to cool...so will be straining it once I get some coffee in me

I'll keep ya all posted

Well it's done....

It may be a bit thin...letting it sit in fridge now to see how it firms up

Tried some on my neck, back, and feet.... Time Will Tell how it works for me

Wish me luck

It should set at room temp. You may need to add a smidgen of beeswax to it and whip it up again. Looks promising. Well done Scorpio. :high-five:

Now to get busy with my own batch.

Had to add a little more to mine too. I was using minute amounts because I only had 2 oz O fingpd used grape seed oil on hand. Next batch I'll be making with coconut oil. I like the smell and the texture better, and that's what I need to use because I have patches of psoriasis that'll react negatively to the grape seed. Too many carbon chains.

For now, this'll do for the BIL to get started.

Mine seems to work..or it's in my mind...lol
I'll do more testing tonight and tomorrow

Love the smell though... chocolate and peppermint

Where did the chocolate smell come from?

The cocoa butter....smells great

Sweet! I just ordered some today. I may add some into my next mix. I ordered them to make suppositories for experimentation with the BioBomb recipe. The infused coconut oil has a delicious smell too, with the right strain.

What strain did you use with your cream? I have grape seed oil all over my hands and arms and I'm gonna have to wash it off. I didn't add any essential oils to this batch to cut the smell, and I'm not partial to the smell of grape seed.
