LKABudMan Back In Deep Water: 4 Purple Haze Clones In RDWC

There’s actually a study out there about how plants don’t like to be touched. They perceive other plants as a form of environmental (space) pressure and it stresses them out.
And plants that were physically handled more grew more slowly. I’ll see if I can find it again.

Date: 3/8/22 - Day 24
Strain - Purple Haze photo clones x 4
Light height and reading - Viparspectra P2500 @ 65% 12" away - 35k LUX
Medium - 8" Netpots with clay balls in 5g buckets (DWC)
Nutrients - Advanced Nutrients pH Perfect M+G+B, Voodoo Juice, Pirhana, Hydroguard, z7
Water - Carbon-filtered well water (100ppm)
Grow space - 32x32x60 grow tent
Extraction - 4" Mars Hydro variable speed fan, on low
6" Oscillating fan x 2
Weekly Temperatures

Humidity in the tent has been much better since I turned up the exhaust fan. The dehumidifier in the basement is being a bit temperamental this week and stopped working twice for over 12 hours. I think it may have something to do with the pump/drain but I am keeping en eye on it. Right now I have it set for 45% and it is keeping the basement nice and dry. As long as that keeps working I have no problem keeping the tent VPD good.

These girls are drinking more and more. I mixed up some fresh nutrients today and gave filled all the buckets. Since they are drinking differently they are getting further and further apart in PPM & pH. I may have to reset soon.

I finally broke down and bought a real light for the veg tent. I have been using the one that came with the tent package, a generic 100W LED. I found the Viparspectra P2500 on sale for under $170, and had about $90 in CC rewards, so I ended up paying about $90 for a 250W LED. I have it mounted about 10" away at about 65% which is providing about 35-40k LUX. I'm really happy with the light and it looks great in the tent. I still feel like my son may end up stealing it in a month or so ;)

The 32x32 tent is filling up quickly. One of the unexpected things about these clones it that the lower nodes grow really long without topping/fimming. These girls are nice and bushy with bottom nodes almost as tall as the top nodes. I still have not really done any defoliation and will wait until I absolutely have to. They have really thick stems and leaves bigger than your hand. I can't wait to get them in the flower tent and scrog them up!

Oh, and my little friend is still in the tent standing guard...

Happy Growing.
Good sign bro. Good sign

Getting bushy in there. I get weird feelings when they touch too much. I want them to have a "Shy Canopy" like the trees I saw on the discovery channel, no touchie.

I agree, I do not like having them crammed in there. Not much I can do about it now, though. I'll start some defoliation soon but that is just a band-aid. It's going to get FULL in that veg tent while I wait to move over to the flower tent. And if they do grow a bit more slowly that's not a bad thing for now.
Good sign bro. Good sign
That's how am taking it. My guardian angel...
Hey LKA, found a chair, little late but all caught up, hope it’s not getting to crowded! Your girls look amazing and wow on the set up in the basement. I’ll be moving by end of June, hoping I have a good space to expand! Cheers!
Welcome @steelcurtain22 and thanks. I'm really happy with how the basement turned out for a lung room. It stays on the cool side and is fairly easy to maintain temps and humidity. One day I'm going to build a big grow room down there but the tents are working good for now ;)

Welcome to the party @VetSmoke85 we're going to see how full I can get this 32x32x60 tent ;)

Looking good @LKABudMan

I'm back. I have a question.
As I add to the buckets I am adding full-strength nutes, along with 2ml hydroguard every week and 1ml z7 every other week.
It is my understanding that hydro-guard and z7 were very similar, just that you could not buy hydro-guard in Canada; so they used z7. I use hydro-guard all the time and it works well for me. I was just wondering why you are using both at the same time?

Stay safe, and grow well my friend,
Tok..

Hi @Tokin Roll you are always welcome. I don't think they're the same.

Hydroguard is a beneficial bacteria - Bacillus amyloliquefaciens. Bacillus amyloliquefaciens is considered a root-colonizing bio-control bacterium and is used to fight some plant root pathogens in agriculture, aquaculture, and hydroponics. It has been shown to provide benefits to plants in both soil and hydroponic applications. There are other commercial sources for this bacteria, most labeled as fungicides.

Z7 is an enzymatic cleanser. According to the site, Z7 doesn't kill anything, it dislodges inanimate dirt and slime so it can’t build up. It helps root systems be free of inanimate slime. I can't find anything that shows z7 containing any bacteria. It does say it should not be used with sterile systems (H2O2, chlorine, etc).

Used together they should fight bad bacteria while keeping anything from building up in the system :) So far it has worked for me. Of course my res temps stay below 72f without cooling so I am lucky there.

Happy Growing.

Correct, it has no bacteria, heres some background on enzymes in hydro:

Taken from Manic Botanix:

"About Enzymes

An enzyme is an organic complex made up of amino acids, proteins, or RNA (ribonucleic acid which plays a role in transferring information from DNA to the protein-forming system of a cell). The composition and structure of an enzyme depends on its function within the metabolic process. One of the key actions of enzymes is they catalyze chemical reactions, increasing metabolic activity at substantial rates, while also protecting biological organisms – e.g. plants – from disease and stress.

Therefore, enzymes function as a biological catalyst in the general process of converting minerals into absorbable food for plants, with a little help from various types of bacteria, in some cases. Without enzymes, plants cannot effectively use the minerals available to them. Enzymes are used in ALL chemical reactions in living things; this includes respiration, photosynthesis, and growth."

I stress over dirt, I'd pull out my beard one hair at a time doing hydro. Kudos to you, you magnificent control freaks... an old man spoke at me once, he said - "your problem is, Son, you waste time on dumb shit. Look at me, I get it done, you hear me? Hell, I take a stopwatch to the outhouse, cause I refuse to piss away time..."

@RedskinnedRhino I think I stress more over dirt. In hydro:
- I can measure PPM/pH and know exactly what the plant is getting and, if needed, can switch it out quickly
- I never need to worry of there is too much/little water or how often to water
- I can see exactly what the roots are doing and how they are growing
- There is much less chance of bug issues

I guess I am a control freak! The biggest stress in hydro is how quickly the plants can change. Well, I'm checking my plants ten times a day anyways so what does that matter ;)

Happy Growing.
