LKABudMan Back In Deep Water: 4 Purple Haze Clones In RDWC

Any more automation and it will be my system growing, not me

well don't go too far.

i also know someone who watched their automated grow burn down live from 180km away. then he got to go home to the fire dept and police on top of it lol :cheesygrinsmiley:

That would blow. Of course, probably better than watching it burn down while you're there, right @Bill284? At least it hurts a lot less ;)

bill's situation is different. he was an innocent victim.

this was absolutely funny as it was based on self serving hubris.

the dude just wanted to prove he could grow weed as an academic hands off process. he didn't want to learn the plant. he knew better than what anyone advised him. he got schooled in the worst possible way.

Date: 4/14/22 - Day 4 of flower
Strain - Purple Haze photo clones x 4
Grow space - Vivosun 48x48x80 tent in basement
Light height and reading - Vivosun VS4000 400w LED @ 100% 16 Inches away - 50k LUX
Extraction - AC Infinity 6" extraction fan with Controller69
2x 6" oscillating fans + Tower oscillating fan + 12" floor fan
Nutrients - Mega Crop, Voodoo Juice, Pirhana, Hydroguard, z7, Purpinator
Medium - 8" Netpots with clay balls in RDWC system (5x13g buckets)
Water - Carbon-filtered well water (100ppm)

The RDWC system is still staying very steady. It is slowly rising in pH and PPMs so I added a little acid water yesterday. I actually like that it moves a little to uptake different nutrients. I'm still aiming for 5.8, though.

These ladies are a mess. There are still branches that I'm not sure how they're growing. There are a couple of branches that need to be tied to the net or they just fall. There are branches stuck under other branches and woven through the net badly. There isn't much I can do about it at this point, though. I'm also not too worried about it. I'll get something from this grow and I'll be happy with it. And I'll get comfortable with MC & the RDWC system for next time.

I've spent some time this week cleaning up the canopy. First I raised the second net 12" above the first net to give me room to work. Then I got rid of any leaves that were stacked on top of another or any leaf not in the light. I also got rid of any 'sucker' buds growing off the main buds. I mainly tried to get rid of anything under the canopy that will not make it to the light. I'm ready to let these ladies stretch and I don't want them wasting energy on foliage/buds below the canopy. I would say I'm done for now, but I'll probably pinch a couple of leaves off every time I look in there for the next couple of weeks ;) If a leaf is blocking a bud site it gets tucked or pinched. For the most part, though, I want to leave them alone and let them stretch for the next 3 weeks or so.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your week and have a great weekend!

Weekly Temperatures

I've spent most of the day down in the basement. Part of that was just cleanup from the last week. I had a harvest on one grow and then getting these ladies cleaned up. The basement had gotten messy. The problem is that it's pretty dark down there. Right now it's just one bulb and an old lamp.

I had a utility light string that by brother gave me so I decided to get some light down there. I swapped out the light socket for one with a plug and filled the light string with 8.5w led bulbs. I still need to finish trying up the cord, but it all turns on and off with the light switch. And I can see a clean basement now :)

For right now these ladies are on auto-pilot. I'm done trying to tie them down and I'm letting them stretch. Temperatures are staying pretty even in the basement and even the res is a good temperature. They finished the 15g of nutes I mixed last week so I mixed up 18g more. By the time they go through that they'll have gone through over 45 gallons, more than the entire res volume. Everyone looks great and there are flowers everywhere. The canopy is still pretty even as well. Time for some stretch.

Have a great Easter everyone.

Man they get well heeled at the bottoms, I know the tops are where the action is, but you bring trunk (not really stem) into the picture.

Nice.
Thanks @DV8 Oh these ladies definitely have the legs. Knobby knees though ;)

Never thought I might consider trying a hydro grow, but this is making me think about it.
Excellent work Budman!
Thanks @Melville Hobbes the hydro part of this grow has gone really well. Part of that is the cool temps in my basement keep the res under 72. The rest is building up a good base of bacteria/fungi and keeping the light out of the res. With the RDWC I can see why people say the bigger reservoir the better. A lot less work.:ganjamon:

Weekly Temperatures

It's been warmer outside, but the basement's linked into the downstairs A/C. Even with the basement ducts turned off all of the 1st floor ductwork runs through the basement so it keeps it cool. And very steady. I'm hoping this will keep the basement around 70f through the summer. This will be my first summer growing in the basement so I'll see soon enough. Right now the VPD is staying very consistent, except when I go into the tent and mess it up ;)

These ladies are eating and drinking well. I think I have them very close the the correct PPM right now @ 5.5g/G MC.

This is my first flower using MC, though. So, I'd welcome any suggestions from people using MC in flower. What PK boosters do you use and when? Do you cut the MC g/G proportionally to the addition of the PK?
With the RDWC, I'm hoping I can use the BE as an supplemental feed. One day per week, instead of topping up with the normal MC feed I top off with BE at the same PPM. I'd still try to keep the overall PPM steady. It seems this would give them a little PK boost without taking the PPMs too high. Again, I'd love to hear what you think.

For training I'm trying to leave them alone and let them stretch. I'm using minimal LST if I see a branch that really needs to come down with the rest, and there's still some branches being supported from the LST.

I'm still finding a few branches that won't make it to the canopy so they need to go. It's hard getting rid of some of them because they're so big. These could almost be plants themselves.

The canopy is fairly even if somewhat tilted a bit higher in the back. Due to the coverage of my light I'm trying to let the sides get higher than the middle to even out the PPFD. Of course, the middle REALLY wants to grow. And grow they will!

Have a great 4/20 week everyone!

Have a great 4/20 week everyone!
I rooted a ton of those branches for fun.
Used to do monster runs for a change.
I couldn't help my self sometimes.
You cut off great big bottom branches doing nothing, why not I said.
Built a stand up 30" cloner.
Worked great but took up a lot of room.
Brilliant work my friend. :adore:

Stay safe
Bill

Thanks @Bill284 yea I don't have the room to root them... unless I win another 4x4 (just putting in out there)

Thanks @Melville Hobbes so you just use MC through the whole grow?
Yup. Up until this past grow it worked quite well. I think it would still work well outdoors. All I ever did was up the dosage if needed.
I'm trying out one of the sponsors this year for outdoors.

Happy 4/20 everyone!:green_heart: I hope everyone has full jars and empty schedules today:bongrip: I just snuck a few pictures from the tent window this morning so I didn't disturb their VPD. There are flowers stacking and building everywhere and they're starting to push through the top net. Right now I'm trying to leave them alone and let them stretch.

I planted a seed for my next grow on Sunday. No soaking, so paper towels, just wet a plug, stick the seed in, and put it in the dome on the heat mat set to 74f. I meant to plant it Sunday morning but didn't get to it until about 6pm Sunday. I left it the dark until yesterday then I put the light on 18/6. Well, it appears she wanted to make a special 4/20 appearance :) After only 2 1/2 days in the plug, here is my next mother, Linda, a Mimosa x Orange Punch from Barney's Farms. I see great things for her :)

Have a great day everyone and make sure to smoke one with a 4/20 friend:passitleft:
