LKABudMan Back In Deep Water: 4 Purple Haze Clones In RDWC

Weekly Temperatures

Spring temperatures are all over the place here, cold one day and hot the next. Luckily the basement stays pretty steady. It's been a bit cooler the last few days but these girls are taking it well. And its about to warm up.

So these girls have been in the RDWC system about 25 days and have gone through 43 gallons, just about the entire volume of the system. I'm topping off with nutes and bennies so I'm not ready to change out the res just yet. The pH has crept up to 6.0, though. I'll calibrate my pH meter today and test again. If it's still high I'll add a little extra pH down to the next feeding. I don't want to bring the pH down too much, though, as I expect it will be falling by itself shortly as the plants starting taking up more potassium.

These ladies were really pushing up on that second net, especially in the middle. I took some time to pull the buds up above the second net yesterday, trying to space the buds out as much as possible. It was really more like tucking the net into the buds, while trying to make sure to pull as much of the bud through the square as possible. It really shows how much they've grown in the last week.

I also had to raise the light 2". Right now I'm keeping the light 14" away and I'll move it to 12" away in the next couple of weeks for the rest of flower. I only have 11" to raise the light now, which means a little over a foot of room for the stretch. Their mother only stretched about 5", but that was from 8"-13" (LST). These ladies are already 32" tall. I'm still not sure if 13" is enough room for the stretch, but I guess we'll see in the next couple of weeks. There may be another round of supercropping in the future.

Hope everyone had a fantastic 4/20 and enjoy the rest of your week.

Omgggggggg

That is so awesome!

A couple more days into the stretch and these ladies seem to be enjoying the RDWC system. I'm really enjoying it as well, as I'm just topping off every couple of days from the pre-mixed nutes. I calibrated my pH meter yesterday and it was at 5.9. I topped it off with nutes and .5ml pH down.

The middle layer of the canopy is getting bushy again already. I need to make sure the airflow stays good to avoid excess moisture. Right now I have four fans in the flower tent:
- A 12" floor fan pointed up through the canopy. This fan moves air really well and keeps the tent from getting micro-climates under the canopy.
- Two oscillating fans on the back shelf for the canopy. These no longer oscillate and should probably be replaced. They still put out some air but I really wanted more airflow on the canopy. So I got...
- A tower oscillating fan. This has done a great job of getting the canopy on the other side of the tent. Well, it did a great job with the first two grows but it was just blowing on trunk with these ladies.

So I ended up mounting the tower fan upside down on the tent. I drilled a few holes in the fan base and used zip ties to secure it in the corner of the tent. It really improved airflow across the canopy, especially in the front of the tent. It would be even better if they would stretch about a foot more ;) Once they stop stretching I'll go in and clean them up again. For now, I'm just trying to keep the net tucked in without getting too sticky and enjoying all the pretty flowers.

I've been taking 'samples' of Jenny, the Purple Haze I just finished drying and the mother of these clones. I really like it, very energetic and super tasty. I'm really looking forward to a whole tent of purple haze in full flower!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend:rollit:

I knew this day was coming. I was looking over the grow yesterday and found a branch that was wilting. It was a smaller branch and not really making it to the canopy so I chopped it. When I unwrapped the taped knuckle I found the issue; the stem had not healed and was rotting.

I gave the rest of the branches a good look and found another that had a problem. Unfortunately, it's the main stem on Jolt. It fills in most of the front-right corner of the tent, and it was not healing properly.

It could not hold up it's own weight so I went ahead and chopped it. After I did I saw all the good looking buds on the branch and thought at first that I'd made a huge mistake.

Then I pulled the tape off the joint and a puff of mold came out. There was no way that stem was going to heal.

It did leave a big hole in the canopy. Hoping not to have to waste that large branch, I cut off the bad section of branch and attempted to re-attach it. Not sure if it'll work, but why not try? I'm better off with a hole in the front-right corner than keeping that branch with mold growing in it. It's probably my fault for not taping the joints as well as I should have. Oh well, live and learn.

I've looked over the rest of the grow and all of the other branches look good. Most have knuckled up by now and are doing great. There are still a few in question but I'll deal with them as needed. I think I'll still get a decent harvest with what I have ;) Have a great week everyone.

Hiya LKA - looking good in there
If you cut the stem to a slim wedge and inserted into a slit in the main stem, that should be a successful graft
I usually graft my chillies onto last year's roots

UPDATE: When I went down the branch looked pretty bad

I did as Growings said and tapered one end and split the receiving stem. I added a touch of honey then joined them and taped them together. Too late? We'll know in a day or two.

Good luck! :thumb:
Thanks @StoneOtter - It is a good trick to know for the future. This one was probably about 24 hours too late. If it takes, fantastic. Either way I'm not stressing it. It helps to have full Grove bags and a grow already started behind this one ;)

If you have any narrow bandage or cloth tape, dunk that in H2O2 and wrap it in that rather than sticky tape
Tie it into place and keep the fan off it and you should be good in a week or so with a fat knuckle
Quite right, give it a try and see what happens - I certainly would, you can always remove it if it's past it

I went down yesterday to check on Jolt's branch and it wasn't doing well. I decided to end it and took the limb off for good. I moved some buds around to fill the void in the canopy and that was that.

Today I went over the grow limb by limb. All of the branches had knuckled over and were supporting their own weight except one. It was the branch right next to the one I removed the day before and it was in bad shape. Unfortunately it was the rest of the main stem for Jolt.

I was planning to leave it and see how it developed and then I saw brown goo seeping out of the tape. I'd seen what the other branches looked like under the tape so I went ahead and got rid of it. I'm glad I did too, because it was nasty.

I moved some branches around to fill the hole, but almost 1/2 of Jolt is missing :( I still feel better with those rotten limbs removed. At least the plant can direct it's energy to the branches that are healthy and strong.

Truthfully, three weeks ago I thought I'd lose a lot more. At least it looks like everything else has healed up at this point and all the rest of the ladies are going strong. I had to raise the light another 1" today. They're starting get their smell along with their frost.

I'm still filling the RDWC from the 18g of nutes I mixed up last week. They're almost gone now so I've started mixing another batch for tomorrow's feeding. PPM/pH is still staying nice and steady so I'm staying the course. I'll post the feed chart at the end of the week.

I think I forgot how much vegetation there is in a DWC grow. I really want to get in there and start removing leaves. I'm trying to wait until after the stretch is finished for the final defoliation, though. I'm hoping that's within the next week because it is getting thick in there :)

So we're over the hump now, I know I'm ready for the weekend!

So we're over the hump now, I know I'm ready for the weekend!
I find that when handling the girls latex gloves help keep away germs.
Especially when doing any cutting , cloning , repairs or uppotting.
I know a repair is an emergency situation and you do your best with you have. :Namaste:
I had a 3 teer cart I used , like a cleaning lady has in a hotel.
I always had a box of gloves, duct tape and zip ties on the bottom shelf.
Be prepared, I think they call this a teachable situation.
I had a huge branch snap right off broke my heart, was so big.
Now I check all the branches I can, if it looks week I tape it.
I got this funky velcro tape but I use duct tape or zip ties.
Prevention is key.
I also support lots of branches in the tent aswell.
Just 2 cents my friend. :Namaste:

Stay safe :cheesygrinsmiley:
