LKABudMan And The Vivosun Auto Oasis - Sponsored By VIVOSUN

Thanks 024. I went back and looked at my last two autos at day# 30, and yea... Daisy is large for her age :)

I max out around 45 DLI. I mostly go by this guide:

I forgot i asked you this and was reading your journal and was like "hey, i remember that" lol. This is good stuff here, thanks!

I thought this was a great idea, so I moved Daisy to the middle of the tent while I'm waiting for a new seedling, and I put both lights on her. As far as why not... what if she doesn't want to give the space back?

Sponsor Update
Last week, when I realized Gina was within a week of harvest, I decided to start a new seed. I went through my seeds and was horrified to realize that I didn't have any auto seeds (that I had not already run). One of the main reasons for the Vivosun Auto Oasis was for variety. I need new seeds!

I reached out to @Herbies Seeds and asked if they would be willing to sponsor the Vivosun Auto Oasis. They generously agreed to allow be to showcase some of their autos. Knowing I was waiting to start a new plant, they got the seeds out on Friday and they arrived on Saturday. I LOVE the Herbies US Express site, the seeds were delivered in one day! I had given Herbies a list of the seeds I would like to run for the next year, and they sent them all! What fantastic sponsors we have here, and Herbies is one of the best.

Saturday, I planted the first one; Girl Scout Cookies Auto! She should be up today or tomorrow. Thanks again to Herbies seeds, I'm really looking forward to showing off these fantastic genetics in the @VIVOSUN Auto Oasis.

The @VIVOSUN Auto Oasis is dialed into around 1.1 VPD, except for when I open the tent. Highs near 80f and lows near 70f are giving Daisy near perfect growing conditions.

Daisy started her @Remo Nutrients week# 1 flower nutes five days ago. It was 5 gallons of nutrients, and she's gone through them already. I was amazed when I went down yesterday afternoon and the 1 gallon res was dry! She's really tearing through some nutes!
Daisy Feed Tracker 20230530.png

While I'm waiting for a new seedling, I put Daisy in the middle of the Vivosun Auto Oasis and put both lights on her. I think she took that as a challenge. She has exploded in growth in the last week. Her main split has knuckled up well and she is a happy and healthy girl.

She's already the largest auto I've grown and she is still stretching. I moved the lights back about 6" today and that's just from a couple of days ago. Pretty soon I'll have a new seedling to go in there, and I'm going to have to fit her in half the tent. Nowhere to go but up, now!

sorry too many replies, can't help but laugh at how big she is already. Good to see someone with a big tent have space issues :)

Good morning cool hand Luke!

You really are the best at presenting a sponsored grow. You put so much time and work into your journals. Good job bruv.
Thanks so much Trala. The @VIVOSUN Smart Grow System really sets up a perfect growing environment, allowing me to set the VPD, circulation, and lights and then just forget it. The SIP buckets are really easy to use and have amazing growth rates. And thanks to the other amazing sponsors on this site: @DYNOMYCO @GeoFlora Nutrients @Remo Nutrients my ladies stay well fed and healthy.

I'm lucky I'm in the US and can get all these amazing products. I know @VIVOSUN just released a new store in Australia. It's great to see these companies going globally, hopefully the acceptance of this medicine will follow.

Julie (Herbies Seeds - Girl Scout Cookies Auto)
Date: 6/1/23 Day# 2
Medium: 4" Pot with FFHF soil & Dynomyco
Nutrients: None

Julie took her time coming up on Tuesday. By the time I went to bed, she was still not quite up.

Yesterday morning, though, she was up and ready for some light. She came up while the light was off, so she was a bit yellow. She got her green back under the herb garden light by the end of the day, though.

This morning I put her in a 4" pot with FFHF soil. I dusted the plug with @DYNOMYCO and also sprinkled some in the soil. I'd like to keep both lights above Daisy as long as possible, and Julie doesn't really need her own light anyways. For now, Julie will live in Daisy's shadow. I measured her at around 10-12 DLI, perfect for her first week.

Daisy (Barneys Farms Dos Si Dos Auto)
Date: 6/1/23 Day# 39
Medium: 5G SIP bucket with FFHF soil & Dynomyco
Nutrients: Remo Nutrients week#1-4 flower

On her 10th day of flower, Daisy is up to 22" tall and stretching about 2" every day. She's drinking almost a gallon daily and shows no signs of slowing down. I had to mix up a second 5G batch of nutrients for her already.
Daisy Tracker 20230601.png

I'm checking the lights daily and keep raising them as she grows. It really is amazing how much she has grown in the last week.

I have plenty of room left in the tent, through, and look forward to seeing how big she can get. She's keeping her own canopy fairly even as she stretches, I haven't had to do much. Hopefully she's ready to move over when Julie is to ready to take over half the tent.

Hey, reply all you want! She's a big girl, but I still don't think I'll have space issues (knock wood). I have the AeroZesh mounted outside of the tent, so the AeroLight can go all the way to the top. And once she stops stretching, the AeroLight can be 12-14" away. So plenty of room, right??

Hey LKA, I've been thinking about the DLI chart you posted the other day. 45 DLI is about 625 PPFD (right?). That seems low for the peak of flower BUT I am basing that on, well, not much, certainly no field experience, but some reading that suggests more 900-1000 PPFD as the optimal exposure (which is a DLI of 65+ at 20 hours a day, assuming my math is right). Is that "lower" DLI/PPFD during flower something you do specific for autos or is that true for your photos as well? My Vivosun VS1500, at 50% and 18" is darn near at 45 DLI already (39.2). Thanks, this topic (PAR, distance, timing for elevated exposures), is tricky.

If you're triggered by math, look away..... you've been warned.

The daily light integral (DLI) is the total sum of photosynthetic lighting intensity measured as PPFD over a 24 hour period. To calculate:

DLI = ((PPFD x #Hours) * 3600) / 1000000 -or-
DLI = (PPFD x #Hours) / 277.778 (about)

With photoperiod plants, I've always shot for 900-1000 PPFD in flower. That works for photoperiod, because 900-1000 PPFD for 12 hours is 40-45 DLI.

(1000 x 12) / 277.778 = 43.2 DLI

When I'm growing autos, the light is on for 20 hours instead of 12. If I kept it at 1000 PPDF for 20 hours it would be:

(1000 x 20)/277.778 = 72 DLI - Way too much

So if you increase the # hours, you need to decrease the PPFD to get the same DLI.

Let's say I wanted to target 43 DLI. Here is the formula I would use:
43 = (PPDF x #Hours)/277.78

Using this formula, I can plug in different light hours to see what PPFD I want to target:

12 hours = 1000 PPFD
16 hours = 750 PPFD
18 hours = 666 PPFD
20 hours = 600 PPFD
22 hours = 545 PPFD
24 hours = 500 PPFD

Conversely, you can measure your PPFD and them set your light schedule get your DLI. PPFD/LUX is a great measurement for light intensity, but DLI is how to measure how much light the plant is getting on a daily basis.

ahhhhhhhh. I forgot that with the photo the light integral is lower so its the same dli as you just demonstrated. So I can run a 20 hour schedule with the light at 50% in my case, 16-18" away from the canopy and get ~600 PPFD or a DLI of 43. Dang I was going to nuke her, so helpful LKA thanks. Sorry if I distracted from your journal but this was great info, really appreciate it. I want a lux meter for Christmas.

Julie (Herbies Seeds Girl Scout Cookies Auto)
Date: 6/5/23 Day# 6
Medium: 4" pot with FFHF & Dynomyco
Nutrients: None

Julie is moving right along. I'm making sure she gets 13-15 DLI, even though she's living in Daisy's shadow. I'm weighing her daily to monitor her water usage. Yesterday, she went below 50% so I gave her a little drink around the outside. Next time I'll wait until she's below 25%.
Julie Tracker 20230605.png
I'm keeping the yellow stickies on her to try to keep any fungus gnats away. It's a constant struggle, even with using BTI on everything. Luckily, it's just a nuisance at this point. It's definitely not bothering Julie. She's looking healthy and growing steadily.

Daisy (Barneys Farms Dos Si Dos Auto)
Date: 6/5/23 Day# 43
Medium: 5G SIP bucket with FFHF soil & Dynomyco
Nutrients: Remo Nutrients week#1-4 flower

Daisy is a monster! Two days in a row she finished her entire 1G res in a day. I fed her twice on Saturday, for a total of 5.8L! Since then, she's slowed down a little. I wonder if she prefers her own little wet/dry cycle?

This evening I'll put the last 2L of the second 5G batch of nutes in her res. I'll let her finish that, then I'll fill her res with 1G of water. Then, I'll mix up another 5G batch of Remo. It looks like I may be feeding her twice a day here soon.
Daisy Tracker 20230605.png
Daisy is loving her two @VIVOSUN AeroLights. Saturday I went to raise the lights again, and realized that the middle of the tent was too intense, and the edges not enough. So instead of raising the lights, I spread them out. It worked out perfectly, giving me close to 40 DLI across the canopy.

Of course, since then she's grown another 4 inches. I'm trying to keep the canopy at 40-45 DLI. By my count, she's only at day# 14 of flower. How much stretching does she have left? Fortunately, I still have a bit of room left in the tent.

I've plucked a couple of leaves from her, but not much. I can still see the pebbles in her bucket from above, so I'm not too worried about larf. She seems to have plenty of space in the middle and really good light penetration. I just wonder if she can fill those huge stems she's growing :)

Will you also order Girl Scout Cookies Auto from herbies? How many seeds you usually order? I like their supports and know they are legit but for the first time should I do small order?
When ordering photo seeds, I usually order them in a pack of 5 seeds. For autos, I've just been ordering individual seeds, because I like the variety. Check out the sponsor discounts and remember they have sales all the time. @Herbies Seeds has some of the best strains out there and they are super fast.

Daisy is just lovely!

Thanks Trala. I love how airy she is, you can see right through her! I hope that means she's going to be filled with hard little nugs where you usually find fluff.

Gina (FastBuds Gelato Auto)
Final Harvest Update

A few days ago I emptied Gina's rootball out in the garden. I was happy to see that the rocks on top of the SIP helped and that the roots went almost all the way to the top. On my last SIP there were 2" up top with no roots.

Gina was in the drying closet for 14 days. I had a humidifier in there keeping it at around 60% humidity the whole time. The upstairs A/C does a good job of cooling the closet, too. Especially if it's one of the few vents open upstairs.
Screenshot_20230608_122444_Govee Home.jpg
Monday, after 14 days in the drying closet, we took all of Gina's branches off of the hangers. We bucked all the buds off the stems and then put them in a 1LB Grove bag with a Govee hygrometer. It looks like they're staying right around 60%, except for when I took them out for pictures yesterday.
Screenshot_20230608_122323_Govee Home.jpg
The buds still smell really good. Everything is super sticky and covered with trics. The buds are fairly dense, even the ones from the middle/bottom.

I've had a few little hits and, while still a bit harsh, she's got quite the kick. I ended up with 200g of Gelato bud, or just over 7 oz. Not too bad for an auto that was a little stunted and burned early on (too much nutrients?) and had to be flushed. I'm really glad I didn't get rid of her when she looked so pathetic.

Once she got in the SIP bucket and get on her @Remo Nutrients , though, she really grew some beautiful buds.

I took about an ounce out and put it in a smaller Grove bag for using over the next month. The rest will stay in the big Grove Bag for at least 30 days undisturbed. I'm looking forward to squishing her this weekend, then I'll really get to taste her.
