Lets Talk Coco! Organics & Salts

Hi B.I.D (and others :) )
Thanks for the welcome :) My set up so far consists of a 2.8m long x 1.9m wide x 1.9m high home built timber framed "tent". I've lined it with a mixture of diamond reflective mylar and reflective 3mm thick radiator insulation (including the floor :) ). I have 3 (soon to be 4 ) 600w hps lights (un cooled because outside temp is going below 0c very soon up here). I have an 8" (200mm) ruck fan for exract but am waving regards intake (I want good neg pressure). I also have a ph meter (water), ph/moisture meter (soil/media), ec/ppm truncheon, hygrometer and 3 oscillating fans. My plan for the grow is 18 first generation cuttings (9 each of AK48 and White Widow). I was thinking 6 weeks veg then flip (8-9 weeks flower I guess). Nute :MoreNutes:wise I've got Canna A+B, Rhiz and PK13/14. I'm aiming for 5.8ph (very hard water here so I also have some ph down). Humidity, Temperature and PPMs are my gray areas though.........any suggestions ?
Thanks in advance :)
sounds pretty good to me, what size pots and what kind? are you gonna add some minerals? i recommend azomite highly, and worm castings are always a huge benefit, are you gonna use any myko teas? i use t&j industries "soil life activator" tea amazing stuff ,use that in conjunction with azomite & worm castings (either mixed in the coco or in tea form) and deficiencies should not be seen, also plant health and growth speed will be greatly improved, end results will be far more flavorful and potent i noticed that i rarely if ever see bugs or plaques,(since i started going hi-brix) when you get the plants healthy enough pests are not attracted to them, research in high brix has proven that plants emit certain biochemical fields/energy and bugs dont attack plants at all if they are "truly" 100% healthy ,only plants with something out of balance are attacked, even tho they may appear in perfect health.. there's a bunch of articles on this at Ag labs website, explaining how it works and why, ever notice in a garden sometimes you see a row of plants where only 1 plant is getting nuked by a pest or disease the rest are unaffected, ? there's a reason, nature is having that plant recycled because there's something wrong with it!
anyway thats some thought from my overstuffed brain, sheesh i can ramble on & on and i type with 1 hand!! watch out if i ever learn to type properly!
Ive been interested in coco for a while and this thread has convinced me to go for it when I restart. I'm just worried about drainage. The girls are going to have to be elevated with a flood tray right?

not nessessarily it depends on the container and how you will water, i like to put those little pans under my smartpots so they can suck back up the runoff, smart and air pots can leak prematurely if the coco is a bit dry,, your gonna love the coco, psst add some azomite and mykos! lol welcome to the coco-nut thread!! :thumb:

Hey BID, thanks for the heads up :) My clones will be coming in rockwool socks, I'll put them into 7" (3ltr) pots or a week or so then transplant into the 19ltr (5 US Gallon) buckets I have. I've drilled 12 holes into the bottom of the buckets so drainage should (?) be ok. Nutes is an area that I'm kinda following the UK trends with. Canna A+B, Super thrive, Rhizotonic and PK13/14 (for flowering). I'm thinking, as it's my first EVER grow, keep it simple stupid (KISS) really applies here :). I'm looking forward to seeing which strain thrives and yields the most. AKs are plentiful around here but the WW is a little more "sought after" :)
Keep up the good work mate. I'm loving the thread and the info you "gurus" freely provide........hope I can return the favour some day :)

Azomite ? I've not heard of it before but I'll look it up now :) I'll definitely keep a progress journal once I'm confident the clones have "taken" ok lol. I'm definitely going to LST also btw :)

Nice one Big Dude :) Checked it out here and it's like ?????WTF is that? lol Amaripoff sells everything these days lol :)

Might try the Azomite
What do you add to the coco for the Brix ?

Thanks for that :thumb:

I couldn't find the Azomite here but got something similar, I hope. It's a volcanic rock cruch. Nearly the same going b the Azomite web site.
I'll keep this tread posted on the results but it sounds great. Thanks again BID

This is what I do, and it works for me.

50/50 coco perlite.

First, I fill a 30 gallon tote about half full of warm water. Then I add a brick of coco. I prefer the bricks because I like the texture and aeration, and the price--of course.

I use botanicare coco-gro bricks.

I ph the water to 5.8. I add enough calmag to increase ppms by 100, so 100ppm of calmag plus by botanicare. I also add a little vf-11 usually, just like 5ml per gal or so. Sometimes I add a little humic acid to the water.

Then I add the brick and let it expand and mix it up so it is fluffy. Then I add the 50 percent perlite and mix it all up well. I like the perlite for better drainage and airflow.

I let that sit for a while. I find this complete gets rid of the cal-mag issues. Then I water with 100ppms of calmag plus every other grow. I used to use floranova or the lukas formula with GH, but now I use this new organic slow release pellets. The brand is called b1. It has beneficial bacteria, npk, micro nutrients, amino acids, etc. It is an all-in-one nutrient. I top feed with it only. I add 1oz per gallon on top of the soil, then alternate with water and calmag, always ph to 6.0.

It is so simple and a lazy way to grow with great results. I have an experiment right now. Identical strains, both in the same coco-perlite treated the way I said above. Everything is the same, but one is top dressed with the organic pellets and the other is fed floranova. The organic one is much bigger, wider and taller. They are now budding. You can check it out in my latest journal.

I prefer these organic pellets. They go away in about 2-3 weeks, then you add more on top.

One thing I have noticed with 50/50 coco perlite with the use of organic pellets, time relase, is if I ph the water to 6.0-6.3 the coco slowly becomes more and more acidic. By the time they are flowering, they are to show signs of acidic medium.

So, I've learned that with organics, you should water with more water when you do water. Just be sure the let the plant dry out well before you water again.

So for a 10 gallon air pot, the kind with the cones with holes all around the pot, I water with at least 2 gallons of water. Then every 3 watering or so, water with like 5 gallons. Also, I found that using drip clean every watering helps this as well.

Im using 6-5-3 wih my coco 50% - 25% vermiculite -25% perlite along with some azomite and feeding with fish emusion. Look better and easier than using salts. I haven't used my PH pen or PPM meter in 2 months and I love it.
I just use rain water.:rollit:
