Lets Talk Coco! Organics & Salts

ph issue solved...just stopped putting ca/mg to the compost last few feedings...as I thought before the bank of ca was full...now gonna give it (ca/mg) once a week or so...yeah its essential to give it in the very begining of the feeding program...personally checked!)

Glad you sorted that out. My first thought was a Ca or Mg problem. Too much of one can lockout the other.

now that i think about it,i have never added calmag with every watering just at the begining and a few times during the cycle if they look like they need it, i have learned to always go light on nutes i find plants do better most of the time if they are slightly hunger rather than pushing the limits the best tasting, looking and biggest harvests have come from plants i thought i should or could feed more, i figure in nature theres no way they are getting regular doses of high octane nutes, and they grow massive and just fine, a few yrs ago i grew a 3oz plant with some cfl's and miracle grow for african violets i just reduced the amount to 1/4th the bottles instructions and in flower i did 1/2 and it did just fine,it was in regular potting soil, and i did add some molasses towards the end,not that i would recommend that but you use what you use what you have lol

I re-read my bottle of calmag and it has instructions specifically for coco coir. It says to add to the first few waterings. As opposed to hydro that says to add to each res. So it seems coco doesn't have any to start, but is able to retain it and release it back to the plants later.

I smell hydrolised fish, humic acid and B vit tonic, with hints of calmag

You might wanna open a window.

Good day everyone! Figured I would come to this awesome thread for some advice and opinion. I have mixed up some coco coir with products I have at the house, with money on the short I decided to work with what was on hand. After rinsing the coco out about 4 times I re applied a gallon of water un ph'd that was sitting out for over 24 hours to decholinate. I then added 3 tbsp azomite, 2 tbsp dr earth bat guano, scoop of great white mycorrhizea, 7.5mL liquid kelp. This mix has been sitting for almost a week now, and I have been opening the lid every couple days to stir the mix. Reading that, would this be an acceptable mix to experiment with? Or have I added something I shouldn't have, or missing a couple things. Should I not be opening the lid to mix the batch? I was reading about dolomite lime and personally cannot find any around here, it will have to be ordered. Can I get by with added calmag doses every few waterings throughout the grow? When some extra cash flows my way, I plan on purchasing a big bag of worm castings and anything else that should be recommended. Any help is greatly appreciated :high-five:

About to do my next grow with coco/perlite in 3 gsl hempy pots. Never used coco before. Fingers crossed.

That's what I'm starting to use as well, haven't settled on size of pots yet, depends on what's on sale, lol.

ounds like a good base but you'll need some calmag for sure i would add some now so the mykos can work on it , i like to leave it undisturbed till i see a little fuzz growing on top, this shows me the mykos are doing their job, azomite is amazing stuff with a good myko tea that alone would be a decent begining (calmag of course)

That's right, looks like I forgot to add I applied 10mL calmag right in the beginning of the mix, with if I remember correctly, 5mL of Monterey Fish and Poop as well. Sounds like I might be able to pull this off, :wood: Will be back soon when I get this coco correct :)
appreciate the help :thumb:

cool well im gonna check out your threads, and help as much as i can:high-five:

Well, my seedlings in hempy cups, coco as medium did not start well. I had to be a surgreon with them to get them stable. Seed pods did not come off as well. Not a great start w/ coco so far. Hope vegging is better...

another benifit of adding azomite it it provides the grit they need to shed well, some coco-nuts advise to add sand to the coco, but i find the garden lime and/or azomite resolve the issue, coco is soft to the plants gentle ,i think thats part of why the grow so fast, are you sprouting in plain coco?
I am using 60% coco 30% perlite. The seeds are doing great now.

Hi fellas.
I've been using coco for many years now. I have to say you guys seem to add a lot of bits n bobs to your mixes. Maybe the coco here in England, which is Dutch made, comes strait from the bag into my pots. I use CANNA Coco Professional Plus btw. In the UK people don't add anything because the medium is so great at holding air + water, which makes it such an amazing medium. I run my nutes @ an EC of 1.0 ~ 2.4 increasing as the grow goes along, and keep my PH locket in @ 5.8 ~ 5.9. I also use Canna's Coco nute range, not boost or Zym though as Boost is a total waste of money, just like a lot of boost products are and Zym because I don't re use my coco after a grow.
I'm going to enjoy reading some of your findings and if anyone can recommend a boost that works please let me know as all I use is PK13/14 for a week @ around week 5 ~ 6 in bloom, depending on how long the strain takes to bloom :;):
Take care Coco lovers,

I just dropped 7 seeds into coco (cocotek) + perlite + lime + calcium that had been prewashed and soaked and mixed... is there anything odd I need to be aware of that I missed? I will add some calmag when watering.
nope sounds good to me,well im a broken record here but some azomite would be nice:thumb:

i use amendments because i grow organic high brix my first few coco grows all i added was some garden lime, but yeah the goodies are not essential especially if your using coco specific nutes, when i was still using conventional nutes i used bpn liquid blue bloom booster, and early bloomer worked really well, but its all about the high brix now for me! my last few plants have been mindblowing! very high readings and incredible end result!

"lime" is dolomite lime? So what is the "calcium" you add? I've always thought limestone was the primary source of Ca in soil.

Powdered organic calcium supplements disolved in the water I used to soak the coco along with powdered B1... it was all I had at the time and it takes a while for lime to break down. I now have calmag+ which I would have used then if I had it. :Namaste:
