Let's Find a Mother! Hiking Through a Field of Mary Jane

also homeless person clothes strewn around the area would work. The more saturated in human scent the better.

Dog pee would probably work as well as wolves are natural predators for both rabbits and deer.

Basically you gotta trick them into thinking the area is not safe to eat and they will avoid it.

I live in a high population area of deer and other MJ eating critters.Jimminy has the right idea.Just pee all around your plants every time you can.It works!

a dirty sock will keep them away .or hair will work also. take an old nylon and make small balls of hair and hang them on plant. works in my hostas

Thanks for all the ideas! This is why :420: rocks. :)

As of yesterday evening, they were unmolested. It's been raining here, so I didn't take any water. They were fed then I put them in, so they are OK for awhile.
I forgot to take a bunch hair yesterday, but I'll do it today.
My dogs go with me, so I'm sure the male marked the hell out of the area by now. Heck, he pretty much claims that whole little corner of state land for himself I think.
I've already been peeing around them.
I don't know any homeless people to ask for their clothes, but I can certainly produce dirty socks! In fact, I have a few pair that I've been meaning to toss out. I'll get them real stinky then put them out there too. I like that idea! Thanks.

I've got 4 more plants I want to put outside. Hopefully I can get 2 more into the ground this evening.

I did make the changes I was talking about. The AC's exhaust is now blowing right into the S&P fan which blows up and out the chimney. AFAICT, it's working very well. The AC is doing it's job well. In fact, I had the flowering room open for awhile while I was working down there, and now I can leave the AC running. Before, it was pointless as the AC's exhaust was in the same space. Now it's being evacuated, so the AC could probably cool the whole basement. I think it will work well during the peak heat of summer. It should also be able to support putting the third light back in after this round. So far, I'm pretty pleased with how well it's working.

The only downside is I no longer have anyplace to blow my smoke. :bong:

I did take a picture of how tight a fit it was to get it in there, but my phone is doing an update and I can't get to the image. I'll include it in next week's update.

In regards to the pipe discussion...

I'm intrigued by the Prometheus Pipe. Sounds pretty good. I don't yet understand how the 2 parts seam together. I'd want glass on glass ideally. Seeing that got my brain turning about ways to make cages for one piece pipes. Maybe I'll make something for myself.

As to my harvest reward to myself, I'm almost 100% certain I'm getting a vaporizer, and most likely it will be a Launch Box. I don't want to spend a huge amount, and I've been wanting to try and get away from smoking. This little one looks like it would work really well in a backpack too.

I have a PAX vaporizer by Ploom and I love it. i'll never go back to smoking all the time. every once and a while if my PAX isnt charged i'll smoke a joint.:)

glad to hear the a/c switch is doing better for you

:Namaste:

Buying a vaporizer is one of the best investments I've ever made.
Like Ronnie said, we use it all the time to cut down on smoking.
But nothing beats a nice cone after a few weeks of no puffs.
We got an Arizer solo. (one of the sponsors here)
And we love it!
portable, re chargable lithium ion battery, great customer service too.

can't wait to see the outdoor ladies! :headbang:

That vape gets great reviews too. I looked at one and I like it a lot, but it's a bit spendy. Assuming I like vaping, I anticipate getting one of those too, in green, but it won't be for another couple batches.

Here is a picture of the changes

You can't really see it, but in this picture, there is still a short piece of flex duct in there inside the wall between the fans. I've since removed that, but may put it back in. I'm still experimenting a bit I guess, but it's definitely brought the basement temps down. :)

I'll look into that one as well. I saw some folks mention it when I was reading about the MFLB. For me, the portability is nice. I also like the idea of using AA batteries. As a hiker, I'd like something I could use for several days without access to an outlet. That's a pretty important design aspect for me. No surprise huh? :blalol:

Here ya go!

The first 2 I planted. They ended up in the same hole because the handle broke on the tool I brought with me. The stick is pushing them apart, ie LSTish.

I planted 2 more AK48's yesterday, but I just realized I didn't snap pics. I'll post some next time I visit them.

Yea what Vick said.

And I really was getting the post confused as well as my self. My bad hiker :)

No worries Wiz. It's just as likely I'm confused. In fact, that's pretty much my standard state of mind most days. :)

Happy Friedday Hiker and Hiker followers:)

You as well Mr Fishtastic :Namaste:

i have used corncobb with sucess let it dry and bake it for 2-3 hrs on 250 then carve, i saw a cool vape i want more than the mflb its the dube,in the specials thread, deals, sales, etc its 60bux & does herb, oils, waxs, pretty much all of it and its the same size as a ecigg nifty:thumb:

corncob huh? hmmm... maybe I'll try that too. I'm leaning towards metal, with a ceramic or stone bowl. We'll see what I come up with. I'll keep making due with Frankenbong in the meantime.

I think I saw that vape too, but didn't look at it too closely. I don't smoke extracts really. I might sprinkle some hash/keif on top of a bowl, but that's about it. Most folks seem to agree that most vapes are best at one or the other (concentrates vs plant material). I want my first vape to work well with ground up buds. I will take another look at this one too. I have a feeling I'm going to like vaping. Smoking is really starting to bother me. If I like vaping, I am sure I'll end up with several in my arsenal.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here is the room last night. I arranged the plants in a stadium configuration to help the light go towards the 'dark' end of the room. I put all the smaller plants in the center. I also decreased the light mover's delay at each end. This will favor the center of the room and should help the smaller plants catch up a little. This is day 10(?) of flower. Stretch is nearly over, so they may not ever catch up. I've raised the lights up several inches to get them above the tall plants. The height is barely above ideal for the short ones. In fact, I think the short ladies have already grown since Saturday, and are now within the 18" I was shooting for. The ends are a little closer than I will leave them permanently, but my hand can handle the heat where they are, so I think it's OK. I'll raise the lights more as the middle catches up. They all have their little cotton ball clusters going, so should have some nice looking buds soon.

This shot demonstrates the 'stadium' effect pretty well. (there is another row to the left that is not showing in this photo)

I just liked this shot. It's entitled "What do we have going on in here?"

Great update hiker!
Seems it's been a while since I've seen in the flower room.
Love what you've done with the place!
This round should be killer!

Thanks for stopping by Vick!

I'm pretty happy with how this round is going. :)

Hey guys. Wednesday is the day I planned for doing updates, but I've already put up some pictures this week, and there really isn't much change.

The ladies are looking great. The shorter ladies in the middle have made up some of the gap, the stretchy ones at the ends stretched a little further too. They will be getting a 'bloom' flavored res in the next couple days. They are currently being fed 'transition' flavor. I'm convinced I can see growth happening between looking at them when they wake up, and before I go to bed about 7-8 hours later. Last night I could swear all those puff balls got at least 50% bigger!

I've been checking on the outdoor ladies almost everyday. Still 6/6 as of yesterday. The first 2 don't seem to have transplanted as well as the last 4. The first 2 don't really appear to be growing, but the others are already starting to take off. They look super healthy and green. There is a little lightening at the growth spots, but I see that as a sign of rapid growth. That's a good thing! :)

I'm starting to get worried about pests with them. I have some Azamax and my SNS prize pack on hand. I'll have to go take another look at the SNS stuff, but I think I have something I can use as a preventative measure. Can I feed them either of these? or do I need to apply foliar?

Outdoors is very different from indoors. I'm far more stressed about the ladies outside than the ones in the flowering room. So far they look fantastic, but I'm starting to get hopeful they will make it to the end. I'm getting pretty confident nobody will find them, but it's not hunting season yet. I'm still optimistic, but hunting season is my only danger looking ahead. Hopefully I will harvest before then. :)

While I didn't post any pics in my journal on 'update day', I DID create, the first in what I plan to be a series, a howto about reading completed journals more efficiently. I find this technique useful with the limited amount of time I have to spend here, so I thought others might find it useful too. Check it out if you're curious and let me know what you think. If you have ideas for other howtos (think techy forum/web stuff moreso than growing topics), please share them with me and I'll see what I an do.

good weed Hiker!:)
don't ask me about techy stuff aint no help there for sure
cant wait for a change so we can see some pics:)
I think you can use the sns in a watering if your worried about mold.

Just doing a drive thru. Man you got a lot going on.GL with the deer. I had to fence off a garden I use to do in the upper Sierras. I did a
6' fence up there. It was the only way as many deer as there was over there. But I have used hair also. I see someone else mentioned it. It does work to a degree. It helped I know in acouple grows I did in south Illinois. Lots of BIG FAT Whitetails there in the cornfields. I asked the local barber shop, really I bribed him with acouple dubies, for the scraps. A I sprinkled it around and did lose anymore. They do have product out there also. Hiker you get all that in you'll be rolling fat. +GL+Keepem Green

Thanks for stopping by!

This outdoor thing is a whole new learning curve for me, but I'm having fun! I haven't been this excited since I popped all those beans last December. While I'm not really excited about the buds per se (I have my indoor to supply meds), I'm super excited to be growing under the giant HPS in the sky. :)

So far all 6 look good. The one that stalled the longest after transplant, is finally growing well. She isn't too far behind the others. She was one of the larger plants to begin with, so she should turn out fine.

AFAICT, nothing is trying to eat them. I visit them almost everyday. A heat wave started here (100+ this week), so I'll be bringing them a drink everyday until the heat breaks a little. Last night I decided to use my SNS nutes prize package for the outdoor ladies. I mixed up a batch of the 604A and also put in both of the drench bug repllants (203 and 209?). I'll be taking this out to them this afternoon. This sample might be enough for all 6, but I'm not certain. I was wondering how best to make use of this sample, since I can't use it in my main setup (way too little to last a whole grow), so this is a great way for me to try them out. I also have the BPN trial bottles. Maybe I should put them head to head. I could do some plants with SNS and others with BPN. It won't be a good test though as I don't have any of the exact same strains outside. We'll see. I was gonna hold on to the BPN stuff and use it next round (I'll purchase more so I can use it for a whole run). I just need to use up the GH stuff I have on hand.

A very good weed Hiker:)
stay cool.

wow it's been a full week! Sorry, but no pics this time. I'll get pics on Wednesday.

They are 4 weeks since flip last weekend. The buds are forming up nicely and are starting to frost up well. I began their 3 week defol a little late, so I'll be pushing to get it all done in the next couple days. Mostly I need to clean up the bottoms so I don't have a ton of popcorn. I ended up with a lot of it on the first harvest. It's not all bad, it means I have more smoke for me now. :)

I did have some exciting things happen in the last week though.

Thursday we drove out west and camped along the Snoqualmie River. On Friday, my wife and I went into Seattle so I could see a wonderful Naturopath. She thinks she can get me completely off my asthma meds, so I'm going to follow her recommendations. Mostly it's dietary changes, but she also recommended some supplements. My wife even liked her so much, she is going to start seeing her.

Now you're asking, "Hiker, why would you drive 6.5 hours to see a ND?" This wonderful, capable, intelligent, open minded, and enlightened medical practitioner also wrote me my official WA state medical recommendation. :)

Up until now, my garden has not been legal. While it's still not legal at the federal level, theoretically, I could invite LEO into my basement now, and probably be OK. As of Friday, I am officially, and legally, authorized to grow, in the state of WA, an UNLIMITED number of plants!! :yikes: :yahoo: :high-five::MoreNutes::MoreNutes::MoreNutes::MoreNutes::MoreNutes::MoreNutes::MoreNutes::MoreNutes:

Obviously federal rules make the 'real' limit 99, but that will be easy to stay below. :)

After leaving the Dr and having lunch, I visited the farmer's markets. I had never been in a dispensary or anything like that. It was very enlightening. I guess it's what I should have expected, but I just had no idea what to expect. I really liked it though! So much so, that on Saturday, I rented a table.

I had a really good time getting to meet the patients and other growers. Heard some amazing stories about how Cannabis has changed people's life. My own insecurities about my buds were allayed as I received nothing but compliments on the quality of my buds. I know I'm my own worse critic, but the ego boost was nice.

While the day was a success, ie I didn't bring ANY meds home, the market is quite a bit softer than I had hoped. When I read Sl1ng say he can't afford to grow for less than a $200 donation per ounce, I get worried. It seems like the wholesale rate in Seattle is more along the lines of $100. In fact, most of the meds available at the market were mess than a $150 donation per ounce. Unfortunately, this had a bigger impact on what I got compensated to cover my costs. I certainly haven't paid for what I've put into the room yet. It looks like that may take a few harvests. I was really hoping to be able to upgrade to a mini split after August's harvest, but we'll see. It may have to wait longer. By then it will be winter, so perhaps I'll put that upgrade off until Spring. I could focus on building up my veg/mother area a bit instead.

So we drove home Sunday. I got home around 9PM, and worked in the basement until after 3AM. Work came real early this morning at 6:30. :nomo:

Before we left on Thursday, I did a fresh res change. I know that my ph stays stable for 4-5 days, so I'd be fine. I had a little scare as the res was initially reading a very very low ph. I had just finished cleaning out the RO barrel and I suspect a small amount of baking soda was still in there. Anyway, I got it to adjust where I wanted and off we went. When I got home and checked on them, it didn't "feel" right in there. It was real humid (55%) and a little warm (81F). As I started to check things out, I realized the fill pump was not plugged in. I think my scare over the very low initial ph frazzled me and I forgot to plug the pump into the controller. The plants had no floods for a little more than 72 hours. It seems to have only affected 2-3 plants. I haven't gotten to the affected plants yet for defoliation, so I will examine them closer tonight or tomorrow. They are all plants sort of buried, so they got less air movement. I also added a couple more fans to the room, so hopefully air flow will be even better. I'm going to add some more holes to my ventilated floor as well. I wanted to err on the side of fewer, and now I realize I can add many more to help get more air into the center of the plants.

Some areas of the room are more stagnant than I like. I had drilled my holes in a way that would make sure to put most of the air out the holes away from the intake fan. This helps circulate the air. Now I realize I can put quite a few more holes in the floor and still get the results I want (dancing leaves all over the room). Both of the tower fans I bought stopped oscillating. I am getting them replaced, but I've lost confidence in that style of fan. I bought 2 new smaller oscillating fans. Right now, one is mounted to the wall at one and and the other is on the shelf with the AC and dehuey. I'm going to build a mount so they can ride on the light mover and blow down on the plants as they pass. This will make sure all the plants get a strong breeze to strengthen the stems, but not have them always being in front of the fan. I'll post pictures once I have it up and running.

Well this was supposed to be a quick update, but it got longer than I planned. :blalol:
I'll get some pics up on Wednesday. I'm taking some during the defol process so you can see a sort of before and after. I haven't seen the outdoor girls since Wednesday, but I'll see them in another hour or so. I'll take some pics and get those up Wednesday as well.

Keep em green everyone.

Great post Hiker.I'm really happy for you about everything! You seem like a really nice guy and for sure you believe in what you're doing.Much kudos and rep as well.I so wish the state I live in had better representation and government that would embrace MM but so far we live in the stone age.Anyway congratulations on your legality man. :bravo: :cheertwo:
