Let It Grow With Barney's Farm

Hey RR:high-five:
Gorgeous scrumptious girls! Even the little ones, cuz they grow up to be gorgeous too!
:hug::drool::drool::drool::hug:
Thank you Granny. Are you drooling over there?

Happy weekend all, quick update on the ladies.....

Well the yellowing on the blue sunset sherbert has seem to have subsided. Now I noticed something bad going on with the purple punch.

She's developing some black spots up at the top of her canopy.
Any thoughts what it might be?

That looks like the beginning of a potassium deficiency to me.

The spots are not visible in the pic RR. At least I don't see them.

How was the calcium line last time you checked?
It was fuzzy with a brix of 15 or 16. I will have to get up early tomorrow and give her ass a pinch and a squeeze. I'll report back. Thanks Gee man.

The addition of the calmag has also helped with the crusty soil I was plaqued with.

Hey @Gee64 here's a shot of the brix test. Maybe too much calcium that's blocking something else?

Yeah that's a pretty fuzzy line. Most new Club Refractometer folks do end up going a bit overboard.

Lay off now and check it every 5 days or so and let it settle a bit crisper. Watch the plants for signs. When they hit their sweet spot you will know.

Calcium fills the most spots on the CEC platters, about 80%, give or take, and the rest is mainly Mg and K, with some trace cations, and hydrogen for PH, so too much calcium can squeeze others off the CEC platters and cause lockouts.

This is why I prefer to mix my own Calmag up from scratch using prilled dolomite and RO water. I can control strengths. I like it at about 75ppm, really weak. It allows you to creep up to a good fuzziness without going overboard.

Half strength can vary greatly from Calmag brand to brand, but 75ppm is always 75ppm. It's why I always include "Always mix it for light feedings, and if it's not enough then do a 2nd feeding, not a double strength one."

It will lower itself naturally as calcium is always falling until it falls right out, it's heavy, or you could give them a gentle watering to full runoff to rinse some out.

19 brix is excellent, and if you had lockout it would be lower, so what you see now could actually be scars arising from 10-14 days ago. Was Calcium low then?

I would just go to plain water and some fish ferts and monitor regularly, then if it starts to get low figure out a maintenance plan to keep calcium good. The refractometer will guide you.

Every strain likes different levels. The important thing is to read the seed descriptions. If it says "likes extra potassium" then you need to lean towards a crisper line to make room for more K on those platters. That sort of thing. Dolomite water adds calcium and magnesium.

The CEC is your cations so google "list of soil cations" and then you know what calcium has to share it's space with, and match that to seed descriptions, or do trial and error.

A flush will fix it quick, but food will flush out too. Watch it and see if it spreads or if it was stopped and the scars are showing now.

The refractometer shows you what's happening now, but the leaves show you things that started/happened a week or 2 ago. I would watch a bit more. Watch for it to spread or worsen. If it does you need to change, if it doesn't then you have already remedied it.

Evening all......just had a peek at the girls. PP is still stretching and the bss is not looking any worse. In fact she looks better cause a bunch of yellow leaves just fell off all bythemselves.

I gave them a 1/2 dose of some cal/mag on the last watering. And it's looking like tomorrow they will be thirsty again. So I think I'm gonna dose them with another 1/2 of calmag.

Hey Geeman...I got the pump pliers to squeeze out some juice. Got 10% ....which is low but lights had just came on.

More importantly the line was very defined. So your suspicion was right.

Thank you for the the help.

Also maxed out the height of the light and adjusted the intensity accordingly.

That's all for now folks.
Here it is. This is from 10 days ago. Your crisp line is now fuzzy and brix almost doubled. My guess is you have already fixed it and the scars are showing now. I would wait it out and monitor daily with the refractometer to learn her rhythm.

Now you know how to stay ahead of it👍👊.

She won't brix high if she's hungry enough to have already started scarring her leaves.

Good morning @Gee64

Thank you for the input. I think I now realized what I did wrong. The last watering I added a little less than 1/2 a dose of calmag to my water. My tap water is about 80 to 90 ppm. I checked after adding the calmag and it was roughly 160 ppm. I also top dressed the girls with geoflora bloom nutes. With the addition of the calmag in the geoflora my ppm was probably way too high. Damn another stoner moment.

I will give them a dose of just plain water on the next watering and go from there. Thanks all.

If you ignore the leaf scars, how is the state of your grow? Would you be quite content if the scars weren't there? Does she still have vigor? Is she turgid (praying) in the afternoons?
The state of the grow is good. There are not many leaf discolorations. And yes she prays during the afternoons. I'm quite happy with the quality of my homegrown weed. It's not top of the line weed but it's not swhag weed either and it sure as hell beats the price of dispensary weed. All my friends seem to enjoy it.
