LED Trinity Grow - Round 1

Nice defol, Scar, and +reps for trying out this little experiment. How many days into flower is she again ?

I think in my situation I did the right thing. The closet was way to crowded and 1/2 the buds sites were getting no light, the only regret is the lollipopping under the trellis that was done a couple weeks before. This area could have put out some bud also once the defol was complete cause it is now getting light. You got that covered though. nice job. Live and learn.

Defoliation was on day 46 of flower. I also do some underneath trimming at day 21 of flower. About 6 inches up or so from the undergrowth. I honestly like a little popcorn to add to the weight, it will get smoked without complaints, and it gives me some options to make canabutter with the trim and any popcorn I deem deserving :) I may try making some honey? or wax? or oil? this time. I still have to do some research on honey/wax/oil considering I have never done those before.

I will be watching to see what results you get *peeks at stealthgrow* I see you :winkyface: :popcorn:

I lost at least 50% cuz I tried defoliation last run..........maybe I took too many leaves, and the start to fall off in flower anyway. I know some folks have luck with the technique, but it goes against everything I was taught in school.

Mcloadie. One thing I noticed about your grow was that you did an aggressive lollypopping/trim of the undergrowth. Maybe if there was a little more lower bud sites they would of benefitted from increased light from the defoliation. Just my thoughts. Maybe something to try next time :)

IMHO Defoliating indoors is essential but it seems it is more the amount that is debatable. To me, removing just enough leaf, to gain just enough light, to just enough of the lower foliage that is left after lollipopping is the essential balancing act. We are all aware of the penetrative limitations of artificial lighting.

Agreed Voodoo, I left a lot of the larger fan leaves at the bottom, close to the trellis itself, but removed the higher leaves to allow light to filter down. I'm going tonight to PH water if needed and have a look, I wanna see how they are recovering, and If the leaves are high fiving and healthy or droopy and pissed off etc...I'll update with pics tonight.

Hi everyone.
Sorry for no update last night, Life came up ;).
Day 31 since flip to 12/12, Visited the girls tonight and changed reservoir, added nutrients, and did the maintenance. The plants are looking good after the defoliation, they are all standing erect and leaves are hi-fiving again. Defoliation doesn't seem to have hurt them, we'll just have to wait and see how those buds turn out. The buds have put on a little size but not much, about 30 more days till harvest so I'm really hoping they bulk up in the last 4-5 weeks. The girls must be thirsty cause they have drunk about 2 gallons of water in the past 3 days, lets hope that's a sign that they are healing up from defol, and getting ready to work on those buds.

Thought I would mention my Clones tonight, they are doing very well. I have 1 Blue Mystic, 2 White Widow and 2 Master Kush clones showing roots. I've got them in the supercloner that came with the closets. I'm PH'ing the water to 5.8 every time I check up on everything, I'm also keeping them on a light 200-300 PPM diet of nutes.
The clones with the longer roots are already showing some new growth. I'm gonna keep all the clones in the cloning machine for about another month or so, just gonna have to train them for low profile. Once this closet is harvested I'm gonna restock it with 1 or 2 Master Kush clones and start over again.
I really wanna try the Royal AK automatic seeds I have in my smaller closet next round, so will probably give away or throw out the remaining clones at that point, and maybe reclone the Master Kush again for a third round.

Today's Stats
Day 31 since flip to 12/12
PPM= 1100
PH= 5.8
Air Temp= 71F
Water Temp= 65.3F
RH= 55%

Yeah, I did some, my goal is to have everything in the most productive zone for the light, what I noticed during my defol experience is that the plant was stunted by the the defol.....this time I left some unproductive vegetation thinking I would rather have the popcorn than stress the plant. This is a lovely subject, in which some folks get good results and others are less than satisfied...this is an anomaly to me and requires further research and experimentation.....I have a feeling that strains could play an important part in the technique........but there are very polar opinions on the subject............when I have time I will get off my butt and dig in.........I will say that I only ever did it in school to allow circulation or make a plant more beautiful..... We can see by the comments that there is something to it.......a person would just have to experiment in their specific environment and strains...........shotta is killin it with this technique! The two plants I'm pushing in flower will produce more than my last 6........with less than half the light!

The girls are looking super healthy after the defol Stealth! I also have a feeling you might be crossing your 30 more day threshold :popcorn:

Yes, its getting closer everyday and the excitement is building now that my nerves have calmed down after the defol, I was really second guessing myself about it. After yesterdays visit though, I feel much better, the plants are looking great and all the smaller bud sites lower down that were dark before, are getting light and looking good also. After yesterdays reservoir change and feeding there are only 2 more weeks (feedings) left before flush.

Beautiful my man.

Thanks b, they have really recovered well from the defol. ;)

Lookin good man lookin good! Im stalking this thread. Keen to see some nice big colas on those girls!

Thanks for following the thread Voodoo, I can't wait for all the smaller buds to converge into one big cola, they're workin' on it. :popcorn:

Plants look good man I love when they point those fingers to the sky! Mine only do it later in the day on the days I water.

Thanks wb88, These girls have pretty much whatever they want to take from the reservoir and the leaves are usually pointing up, but they definitely needed a day or two after the defol to recover. IMO as long as the leaves are pointing up like that your plants are happy. If not, something is wrong or just watered or flushed etc....
Thanks for following the thread wb88. :thumb:

Hi MC, I think you hit the nail on the head when you mentioned strains being an important part of the technique, some plants definitely take defol better than others. Of the 3 strains I have running right now, the White widow seems to not have liked the defol at all, she is looking a little unhappy, not bad, just pissed, I think it might have hurt her overall yield, its still early to tell, but just a feeling after seeing them. The Master Kush I have is a beast, nothing is slowing her down, in both closets. She is gonna put out some nice nugs no matter what I do to her, I think. I'm still on the fence about how the blue mystic took it, but I took the least amount of leaves off the blues. Some strains do well with the defol, other don't.

Can u tell me what growing medium ur using? Thanks

Hi Roymac, I started the seedlings out in a 2 inch rockwool cubes, once the roots started to show, I transplanted them into 3 inch net pots in the DWC reservoir, and surrounded the rockwool cubes in hydroton. Thats it my friend. The roots hang down into the water and nutrients in the reservoir.

Lol , I've got a couple of threads saved in there from TheCaptins grow, I'm really intrigued in how he utilized a top drip with rockwool and air pots. Really blows me away that he can use that much wool and water as frequently and have such a lush harvest without issue. It's really top notch. I'm leaning towards his methods heavily and reading and re-reading what he posted trying to use his method and incorporate it with mine into a hybrid system. I mean just look at the modularity of his different setups , this guy really put some thought into what he is doing. I like it.
Same goes to stalthgrow and this thread as well as most others here with something to share , very interesting , learned a great deal and packed away a great deal of info and ideas from this thread. I think we even have the same LED , I got mine direct from H.K. from the manufacturer , Anyways... I'm just here to learn and have a laugh when I can. Great site with awesome peeps.

PEACE & POSITIVE ENERGY TO ALL 420 MEMBERS
