For my first grow I am using soil since that is what I know about. I raise worms so I can compost all my garden wastes, fallen pears and kitchen scraps. I make organic teas from the castings and use that as my fertilizer. I am using full spectrum mini flood, 50 watts each X3 and 2 CFL bulbs for a total of 176 watts. I am thinking of adding LEDs; what is the best so far?
blue is for veg and red is for flowering. she needs more red in her lights. the thing i dont get is she claimed her leds were so good because of the white leds, but now she going from 20% to 5% white leds. but i no she dose need more red in her lights to get some better bud growth.
Been lurking on this thread for a few days now because it's a grow test between the two lights that are at the top of my list to buy and I go back and forth between them often. Just when I decide on the Penetrator, I start liking the ProSource, but then something about the Penetrator appeals to me... yada, yada. Now I'm back to the ProSource mainly because of the last set of pix posted. At first glance, the plants grown under the Penetrator look bigger but, as I learn more and more about growing, it occurred to me that they also look kinda stretched (not a good thing) while the plants under the ProSource look much more dense and compact and with more bud sites. I'ma noob so I could be wrong. Anyone who knows about these things who could clue me in would be really helpful. I mean, both sets of plants look pretty good but I just can't help thinking that the Penetrator plants don't look quite as productive at this point as the ProSource plants.
Personally, the Haight Solid State looks like the shizat to me... check out setting sun's grow hosted by 420.
I've been following that grow too. It's not as far along as this one is and I can't really tell the diff between the Penetrator and Haight yet. Looks like awhile before flipping the switch to flower. Besides, the 800 is listed as unavailable on the Haight site. No telling how long it will be before it's available for purchase. At least I know I can get the ProSource now and have a pretty good idea of what it can do. Still it would be nice to see how well the Haight does in flower. It's the most radical design I've seen yet. I'm also giving a long and hard look at the HID Hut UFO with the adjustable spectrum switch. Very pricey but I like the idea of being able to fine tune a spectrum to my grow situation.

Maybe I missed that. That would make more sense. Would contradict HGL stating that 3-1w LED's are more efficient than 1-3w LED. I think the white went down from 10% to 5% and the blue went up the same.

Ah, I had it backwards.
Let's see if HGL does an upgrade program for all of us who listened to HGL about them having the right spectrum and the right ratios. Is it just me of do you also feel like you got a pre-release beta version that your testing for HGL?
Still looking good and very informative. On pins and needles here to see how this all plays out. Great job and hope you had a great New Years..
Genuine grow journals like this can only help to disprove the nonsense that these "companies" drop shipping lights try to con us with.
Personally i dont understand why anyone would buy a "Hydro Grow LED" or a "ProSource" when you can just go direct and get it for a fraction of the cost they are charging.
The only difference will be the label.... they all come out of the same factories, same PCBs, same cases, same LEDs.
Its a shame its like this, but it is the reality if you choose to believe it or not, when i first came here i was suckered by the sly marketing these "companies" try to use, (mainly HGL), but after some research i found out its all a bunch of horse shit.
Do yourselves a favor and just go direct, google "led grow light china" and save yourself some cash, plenty of REAL companies to choose from.
Some of the better ones i found:
I read some real good stuff about LEDs from one of our trusted sponsors. I believe it was Hydro Grow here on the sponsors page. 420 Magazine - Sponsors
I would just post the url for them but I believe that 420Mag gets a little kick-back for click-thrus.
Check out their Technology page for the nitty-gritty.
Thanks for the URLs. The problem with bsled is they only use 1 red and 1 blue spectrum. It seems the major problem with the LEDs are not hitting all the correct spectrums.
