LA's Shooting For The Stars Journal: My Effort To Grow Pro!

Thanks folks :)

So that's all she wrote concerning any further whole plant pics. From here on out she's for certain eyes only. Obviously after her unveiling I'll plaster pics and videos all over lol.
I just couldn't not share where were at with my 420 family. It's the only spot to get that update lol.
Just incase a meeting is possible, I'm gonna have 2 of her bigger buds blinged. Plated in either platinum or 24k gold. 1 for me 1 for the man himself.
Also getting specialised stuff made up for the final photo shoot. So yeah, get ready to see my ugly mug all over the place :)

We'll brace ourselves for the ordeal, but may need liquor to get us thru the event.

Sure lookin forward to it!

lol, yep you're all in for an ordeal for sure :)

Bro your a legend. I would never have the patience for such a project. I really hope you get the recognition you deserve. Well done

I reckon I'm just a bit tapped in the head or something. I must be as I've already dropped beans for my next sculpture. This one is a commissioned piece. I'm doing the logo for "The Plug" I wanted to work with the brand due to their sheer presence across so many different parts of the industry and beyond.
I'll be hanging out with the plugwoldwide, Snoops lot and the BDL gang at Spannabis in a few weeks time.
I'm basing myself at the snoop booth.

Also gonna have talks with Capulator if I can catch him, as well as Kyle Cushman Remo etc, etc. The aim being getting a few more jobs doing major brand logos or promo stuff.

Then I've also dropped a Greenhouseseeds bean that will become the base/stock plant for their promo stunt plant. All the GH strainson 1 plant.

Then also coming up after Spannabis, I'm judging my first Canna cup, (Solventless category)

Well yeah a few little things starting to kick off now. So bare with me my friends ;)

Keep chipping away at it man!

So folks, I'm about at the last hurdle. Had another outbreak of spidermite to really put me in the mood lol. Treated the spot last night, but it's made the decision for me that on my next day off work I'll be staging my Snoop banners, then doing my final refining of the plant. This will be a laborious process, asill be getting to the level of single leaf placement and so on. Taking a pic, rework and go again, repeating till I'm happy which is never!
I've reached the point I'm gonna do a little dance after I kill this plant. I'm done with her lol. Having to grow the most important plant in my career, in a cupboard has pissed me off hard.
Getting spidermite throughout has been a fun one too. Yet I've stumbled on, running no PH meter or EC either, then trying to balance 7 strains feeding off one is also a challenge.

A few more days and its gonna be go time. Maybe a week or even 2 early on a cpl of the strains, but I've had my fill. Once shes down and gone I can move house with ease and get back to some proper growing. I need to be in the middle of a decent size garden again. I'm suffering grow withdrawals and they hurt....

Oh and a heads up people, once I'm back running normal plants, I'm coming out of retirement... I'd like a few more 420 titles, so hold on, I'll be coming in hot and heavy lol

Hot and heavy, sounds like I'll learn a lot more. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Sorry to hear about the bugs again, seems to be going around. I better go find some wood to knock on.

Will you be curing some of the logo for the client, or nah?

I'm still learning myself, always will be. Yet I've still a few tricks up my sleeve and believe in sharing, building one another up, so grabbing a few more 420 titles whilst I'm at it will be a bonus.

I'll go back to autos for a run, show why I like to work with strains like like think diff by DP

I've got to do a CMH 1260w run in my 2x2m, then a 1280w run with sanlight setup. Then my favourite bit, when I'll see just how much light I can combine and stuff in there to really do a killer crop.

As for getting some of this to the man himself. Looks like I'll get to meet him now. So I'll get a bud blinged for us both. 24k gold or platinum.

LA, that sounds like a lot of work, but a LOT of fun too.

I’m on my phone at the minute, so typing much is a chore. I’ll get back to the desktop in a minute. I’d like to share something I’ve noticed with autos to see of you may have ran into something similar.

OK, switched up.

I've noticed with some autos I've ran, that the more I mess with them (pruning, etc) during veg, the longer they will veg. Less messing, quicker veg. On my last batch of autos, there were 5, veg time was 5 weeks for one, between 6 and 7 weeks for 3 more, and the last one was 2 months to the day (1 Nov to 1 Jan). That's also the order in which plant received the least attention to the most.

All plants received a topping above the 4th node by their 21st day above ground, and removal of nodes 1 and 2. After that it was basic pruning/defol as needed. Plant 1 didn't need see a lot of the defol/pruning due to other issues going on in another tent. Plants 2, 3, and 4 received a good bit more, and the 5th plant was almost a constant battle with a hedge bush.

This wasn't something like a big defol every few weeks, but more of an on-going tinkering as the plants vegged. Typically twice a week, on occasion three times a week for the most part. So while it wasn't a lot at one time, it was pretty much constant over the course of veg.

So I keep thinking, when are these things going to flower, right? Shouldn't they go 3 or 4 weeks and start to show some pre-flowers?

Then I went to digging around and researching a bit. I didn't come across a lot of information, but I did manage to find some. What I found was discussion about a "constant" pruning during veg (trimming a few leaves, weak nodes, a few times a week), and that with the pruning going on it kept the "veg hormones" (whatever the technical term is for those) at a more elevated state. With those being elevated, it was more work for the "flowering hormones" to overcome and flip the plant into flower. It also mentioned that for most auto strains, 8 weeks was about the top end before the flowering hormones had built up enough to flip.

Now I was quite intrigued by this. Especially with an auto that sprouted 1 Nov, and still has about 3 weeks of flower time left on her. She's quite a specimen for an auto as well. I'll be quite cheesed off if she doesn't give up 250g-300g (8oz-10oz, give or take) when dried and cured.

She's taking up half of a 4x4 tent (1.2m x 1.2m) or better. She was in the middle, and left maybe 12in-14in (30cm-35cm) around the edges for the other 4 plants.

I'm down to 2 left in that tent, and she's taking up the front half. I'm convinced that had I grown her solo in the tent, she could have came close to filling up the tent herself. I was taking nodes left and right to keep her in check. That extra veg time was interesting, to say the least.

So now that I've rambled all of that, have you encountered anything like that with autos? Does the hormone level concept make sense?

I've another round of autos that I will have sprouted by the end of March, but different genetics this time (Dutch Passion), and I will be paying close attention to this to see if there is any merit to it or not.

Honestly, I can't see much of an advantage to it. I've got photos that popped 5 Dec, flipped on 27 Jan, and will be only a few weeks behind this last auto that popped a month before. And those should have been flipped a couple weeks earlier, but I was late getting in to top them initially as I had family business to handle. That being the case, I just see more money on the light bill, for something you could easily do with a photo.

The advantage I could see though is that light leaks/exposure is less critical than with a photo. Also that maybe there might be a little more bud development from the extra light. I'm not 100% sure on any of that yet, but looking forward to the next run to see if similar pruning extends their veg time or not. Or maybe I'm off in the head on it instead.
