Landrace Genetics 101

Only got hyperemisis once. Ate too many edibles. Source was a medical dispensary.

Almost got sick off of my own (red point) edibles before, lol, but it was almost and I was really high, I had everyone seeing double

I don't use pesticides unless you count diatomaceous earth on my apartment thresholds

Road kill

Thanks.

I've wondered for a long time how safe it was to consume random cannabis when the plant is so capable of "cleaning the ground" by drawing toxins up into itself. But I was thinking in terms of outdoor-grown (pollution is an issue here), and mostly just about eating it as opposed to "any kind" of consumption.

That article or blog, its just something to think about... Theres no proof there but is sonething worth looking into, imo...

Perhaps - but cannabis' ability to remove toxins from the soil is well known. So even if this particular substance ends up not being an issue (and common sense tells me that it's at least a valid concern), we should still be paying attention to what we feed our plants in general - along with what we're growing them in.

Blech. Can't stand seeing that link posted. Thanks for clarifying that you don't feel it's definitive proof. Obviously you've seen all my diatribes about it, so I'll spare you the full force of my long windedness again :P

Just a pet peeve, I just feel like that entire theory, specifically from that source, was only thought of as a way to deny the validity of CHS, and it really does a slack-ass job of it. It's a smokescreen, and so in some ways it feels like people are concerning themselves over nothing but a smokescreen.

I would say though that given the sudden surge in popularity for concentrates though, that we do need to start paying attention to residuals of a lot of different chemicals, not just azadirachtin. Azadirachtin is already found in raw neem oil at about 2300 ppm, so seeing those labratory numbers of azadirachtin levels that the other forums claims to have seen would shed some light on how much of it is making its way into concentrates.

But before that... We need to determine what "safe" levels of it actually are. As of now that's what's totally in the dark about it, and I kind of feel like taking a "better safe than sorry" approach based on that specific blog post would just be shooting one's self in the foot. I guess if you have other IPM that's working for you that's no issue, but I would hate to see people depriving themselves of the effectiveness of neem oil due to this sudden azadirachtin hysteria. Even more annoying, people regarding medicine as "poison" if it was treated with neem.

I had to find it and post it when I heard you putting all your faith in it :rofl: Its an idea, possibility, educated guess with some scientific knowledge associated.. I would prefer this than chs. CHS denies people medicine more than neem poisoning.. you can stop neem poisoning, have to stop medicine use if want to treat chs...

Eastern Washington is full of dirty commercial concentrates. Even pesticide free stuff needs a good home purge to clear out the solvent.

I buy BHO and have to purge it in my oven a gram at a time. This helps, but there is something else in a lot of it that isn't okay. I think neem is a lesser evil than a lot of the other garbage being used.

Strainly... Empowered and connected, I hate them already and can't watch their ad. fuck I hate me  miss out on shit cause I can't stand shit

The punto.rojos
Hmm one inconsistent thing I've been trying to understand is the Colombian Red. Most of oldtimers say it had sedative, relaxing stone and also that smoke was very resinous filled with trichomes that formed kind of hash on these buds. Is it really possible that was some Afghan imported there early by the cartels or from Hawaii? Hmm and then there's Colombian Punto Rojo, which really gets red as it cures

It's also very mind-expanding strain, spacey, THC wise not as potent as today's strains but I get very well with just a small bowl, and it kind of takes you to a different world... hmm this is really a sativa of the most excellent quality. Anyway what I'm thinking that CPR IS NOT THE SAME strain as Colombian Red, just a coincidence in name. Some phenos resemble original Colombian Gold or Mona Amarilla and some are just faster, they purple and have shorter flowering time :smokin2:
This was my favorite from back in the day. The punto roJos gave me a start.....like seeing a girlfriend from 1978 that hadnt aged at all. I smoked thai soaked in opium.water.(loved it )and Columbia Gold .(.it made me think too much) and lots of mediocre homegrown and mexican. The best was Columbian red, at 16 i used to light up alone at midnight and go ambling through the woods talking to the trees and listening to.them reply. Good times

I have a stock of seeds that have a Punto Rojo (red point) father. I've grown out many and had a couple of phenos that were very much the Punto Rojo that is described in the first post of this thread. Bud spears were gold/pale green at maturity and developed a rose hue after a long flush. Cedar/inscense smoke and psychedelic effects.

Phenos I have grown so far are Durban, Thai, and the Red Point. I would Love to find some regular Punto Rojo seeds.

Snowhigh has good genetics...over priced on the website but still good genetics. If people want to spend over $100 on 5 seeds let them ;)

Thats 10 seeds when I buy. Listen... first try with his seeds and I had monster plants, indestructible and high flying to the moon.

I'm a fan.

My previous response was generic in nature and not meant to be a poke at any one particular breeder.

Aside from that, I've nothing in my pockets but a little lint, lol, and even I would consider trading $100 for five seeds (containing good genetics) to be a more than fair trade. I'd rather pay $220 for 13, but that's just to account for phenotypical variation, possible screwups on my part, et cetera. I never was all that comfortable with the concept of only buying a couple/few seeds of a strain(*), especially a strain that isn't an IBL or unmolested landrace.

(*)Ironically, I have a big pile of tiny Ziploc type bags of different strains, mostly containing only one or two seeds each. But I didn't buy them that way (most of them, I didn't buy at all - and gifts, freely given by others and gladly accepted by me, fall under different rules).

I've tried both approach.

Only take-away.

I can't justify that much money on seeds when there are other sources for much cheaper. All the crosses Snowhigh has looks incredible (also from your photo) still too much for me. RSC, Tropical seeds and MNS has a great range of landrace/heirloom genetics for much cheaper so for now I'll stick with them until I can afford the pricier stuff like Snowhigh :thumb:

That is full of good stuff. One thing with landraces that confuses me is how anything we breed at home, even if from a pure line, can even be considered a landrace anymore. They would still be pure sativa (for example) but cannabis is very good at adapting to the environment it is grown in. Our tents and QB's and controlled environments are not the same as the top of a hill in Columbia (just another example). So after one generation we end up with something that resembles a landrace but will continue evolving and changing no matter how much we inbreed.

That being said, my red point (punto rojo) is amazing stuff. It is fun to grow and more potent than most of the stuff on the market in WA. And even though I am in the midst of a breeding exercise to pick and choose phenos that best represent their red point father, I know that I will never get it all right and the subsequent generations will adapt more and more to my environment losing what made them, them... It won't stop me from trying though.

Morning ramble, not sure if I got anywhere with it. Lol. Landrace info is always good to get my neurons firing, that and Rockstar.
Peace

What we grow is going to be amazing stuff.

Market weed.

Lets raise the bar

Work out what the little lady wants to give us.

Thats what I think about Landrace.
You are right about Sativa.

We should not exclude hybrids.

Landrace genetics, aren't they the feed stock?

The work is up to us, I'm thinking.

We all should get together and make something great.
