Landrace Genetics 101

I would love to get ahold of some Vietnam Black landrace seeds.

You might try Ace Seeds' (it feels good to be able to use my customary "forum sponsor" highlighting with Ace, lol) Orient Express. It's a cross of their Vietnamese Black mother and a Chinese Yunnan father. I think the latter is an indica, though :( .

But maybe the continental break happened long before cannabis had spread and the just wasn’t any here - except for it’s rare cousin in the Blue Mountains ;)

Yeah, that was around 100 million years ago, so I'd expect so. Flowering plants existed, but they were still relatively young (in geologic terms) and probably weren't as widespread or as diverse.

LOL at Blue Mountains.

I’m going to attempt to drag things back on topic here ;) with a question to all the long time growers from oz, and others who may know. What are the Australian landraces - assuming there are some? I know of Mullumbimby madness - but it doesn’t seem available anywhere. Nor do I know what it’s supposed history is, or if it can be considered a landrace.
I’m hoping @GrizzWald or one of the other fellow dwellers in the southern land can enlighten me a bit :Namaste:

Have you searched the forum for Mullumbimby? I had remembered a guy from some years ago that had grown some Australian trees.

Typically, seeds got distributed around the world as hemp, for sail making. They would have come with the first sailing ships.

@Graytail - yep I’ve seen a few of those Mullumbimby trees! On the net - be nice to grow one but I couldn’t do it here with the critters I have to keep out, unless I topped and trained it... but boy it looks good just growing out how it wants to! Those mountains just inland from the coast up north (the Nimbin area, wings is talking about) are a really special area for growing.

thinking of popping in to nimbin soonish a
If you’re travelling to Nimbin from Victoria and you choose to take the coastal route... you’d come right by my place ;)

Oh and i took my profile pic while lying down at Waikiki!

Oms is older than mm, for what that's worth
Id have thought there would have been seed trading between locals and png but if your not traditional farming, then they are useless... Imagine would have been into more Psychedelics.... Should look into that one day

Trees give it away..would be kangativas plants. they were awesome.. he lost those genetics/seed stock....

It's in the strain Willie Nelson as well, mixed with the same Nepalese that Ace uses in Bangi Haze and Nepjam. Different breeder though and it's hard to find anymore. I believe it got discontinued, but there may still be some around different seed banks.

thing is I use LEDS  ? for some silly reason I keep buying them  they grow plants well and nice flower but they lack that extra bust in the flowers. Without any scientific data, just an opinion to ignore, some extra heat produced from the emitting light would be good. Its like growing to a cool Sun...

Been my limited observation, as well. Some expensive LEDs produce the trichomes and the weight, but they can be several times the cost of HID (and of comparable wattage) . Otherwise, either often end up with a hot-spot that puts an HID to shame and a small footprint, or a reasonably-sized footprint but pretty diffuse lighting.

I know of a pretty potent LED panel (glances at closet door), but it had a sky-high MSRP and only saves me about 50 watts. And it's 30+ pounds, too.

I'm getting ready to run the one that's in my avatar in a grow. It's much less expensive and only consumes 160 watts or so. I've also got a little dimmable 400-watt HID (HPS) setup. Nothing fancy, several year old Lumatek ballast and what must be the world's sh!ttiest open reflector - but it's a 400-watt HPS, lol. I would really like to run it in there (on its 250-watt setting, if nothing else) with the LED, in order to see if the combination can provide the best qualities of both... High trichome production and a reasonable yield (for the total wattage). I'm not sure if I'll be able to dedicate enough electrical capacity to do so (or to afford the electric bills if I do), and right now I've got "a few" water issues that seem to expect me to crap out a pile of gold doubloons to deal with, but I'll do what I can.

I use them too in veg. But mine are crappy for flower. I tried to use them to flower out some clones once. They just weren't working, so I broke out the 1k HPS. Lol

Anyone grow the Parvati Jungli? Found it while searching around for obscure genetics. It is supposedly a feral sativa variety from some region in the Himalayas. Haven't really asked any on topic questions for a bit, so here I am. Lol

It's a fairly new strain for RSC to carry. Sometime this year it's popped up in their lineup. Which now puts them with 4 Nepalese highland strains if I remember correctly.

I should check them out sometime. The Nep leaning Bangi Haze I grew was a winner in my book. Clear headed and so stimulating, I can barely stay seated. It's what's in the pipe when things need to get done.

I saw willie Nelson strain available either on AMS, or Dutch Seed Shop not long ago.

Seems like it might be something to try out. I found a site which I can't name that carries 9 regular seeds for just about $13. Never tried any kind of Nepalese anything.
