Fresh Harvest Oil - Take One!

So I really should have done this yesterday, but I was tired and it would have kept me up too late to wait for the buds to dry off after the wash. Got up early to have coffee and get right to work!

Trimmed it all and got a decent amount for oil. For the almost 300g, I'm using 3/4L of olive oil.

These beautiful buds were saved for Dr Ziggy's low and slow.

IMG_43996.jpg

The stems and trim were saved to go in a mason jar. I'm going to put them in the fridge too for drying to use for tea.

And here is the pressure cooker ready to get to work! The extra water added helped to blend the plant material. I had not planned to use more than 3/4L of water, but it wasn't enough. So I ended up needing to add 1.5L to get everything to mix nicely. Pressure cooker was put on the stove and brought to pressure. It's cooking now..... :)

And she dives right into the pressure cooker version

The low n slo is now the only way I dry my flowers, well some small buds are hanging to make some oils down the road, but all my smoke is dried that way. You will love it

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

Thanks Scorpio! I am ecstatic and kind of proud of myself!

This was completely new territory for me, and I made it all the way to harvest. Didn't kill a single plant. :laughtwo:

I can still remember how nervous I was before the first cut. Now I do it as a matter of course. :laughtwo:

Congratulations on your first harvest. Very well done. :high-five: Had to drop some reps for all that hard work and efficiency.

Next time don't add so much water to the mix. It'll break down as it pressurizes and release all the bound up water. I always start out thinking I'll need more liquid, but that's never been the case, although I have added more to calm my anxiety. Lol! I haven't done the pressure cooker yet. Haven't purchased one. My funds keep getting diverted to other gardening needs.

You dear, are a natural. See how easy this can be? No better fun in my book. :battingeyelashes: :green_heart:

Super awesome congratties!!!!
I've got some oil creation plans for today or tomorrow as well.... tis the season!

Green gold! I need to make some cream for topical application too. Maybe I'll do that with the upcoming harvest.

Thank you! I have high hopes for her, based on the genetics. We shall see! I'm going to start with the lowest dose of 0.1ml and work up slowly.

LOL! My husband will verify that I'm definitely not a dabbler.....He says I don't do anything small. :laughtwo:

Happy to hear you love the low n slow method! It's so different from the conventional way, but I have yet to find anyone that has a negative report after trying it.

Agree. There was more water than I thought there would be when done, and I immediately started thinking how to reduce it next time. The pressure cooker released about .5 L in the cooking process. Next time, I would like to try just adding that amount and see if I can get the plant material ground with less liquid.

One tip for anyone that may be considering an immersion blender purchase: get one that has a lock feature for the button. My hand was really hurting after squeezing it so long to keep the blender going. :laughtwo:

Kinder words, I couldn't imagine. :circle-of-love: :hugs: And, yes, this is SO MUCH FUN! :)

You are all making me blush from all the love! Thank you and I send my love right back to all of you! :green_heart:

And here is the final product after a little more than 2 hours of cooking :slide:

IMG_441111.jpg

Poured the entire mixture into a large mixing bowl lined with cheesecloth. I think a nut milk bag or similar fabric would be better.

IMG_44126.jpg

Not bad! 725 ml reclaimed of the original 750 ml olive oil that went in.

IMG_441410.jpg

Some of the oil is here, but I have hit the point of pulling plant material when I try to skim anymore.

The final oil is such a lovely green :green_heart:

I used Magnus, kinda, I'll dig it out and post it to ya

With cocoa butter and peppermint oil it smells divine

What oil did u use for yet fresh oil hun?

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

Olive oil is my base. Mmmm, peppermint

Now I remember! Yours smelled like a peppermint patty :) Need to get cocoa butter though

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

Let's see.... This is what I did

My test run was a small batch, fresh flower and grape seed oil GSO

The mix of oil to flower I used was 8gr of flower to 8oz of oil so 1gr/oz of oil

GSO obsorbs into the skin better, but Sue uses olive I believe
On my phone now...I'll copy and paste it all in a few from the laptop

As I just researched mine was basicaly what Sue has in her Blog

Easy Pain Cream

Now that said with the Essential Oils, for each one, I did about 30drops, that seemed a good amount in my 6oz test Run

You could just take a couple oz of yer Oil and use that in some Wax/Cocoa mix. Or Save yer Fresh oil and use some Flower to make more oil

I made some of the cream 1st, as a test, while i was making the 36hr oil. I learned a lot doing that. So when my Oil was done I just melted some cream, add the Oil, added essential Oils.. and BAM!

Fun Fun Fun

This sounds like a great way to start. Thanks! I already have the oil done, so I just need to add the beeswax and coco butter.

Ordered both and they should be here in the next couple of days. Then, I'll be whipping up some cream :slide:

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

Hope you get good results! For you and the other folks reading here who are making CBD oil and topical lotion - will you be adding any THC to the mix and if so, how? My thought was to potentially create a CBD oil, an indica oil, and a sativa oil, and then my wife could figure out the balance of CBD and THC that made sense and get there by combining oils. Candy's basically pure CBD, I assume. Any plans to make your Blue Dream into ebidle and topical oil as well?

Great question! I'm planning to make a topical with the Candida (mostly CBD, but can contain up to 5% THC). Betty is an almost even 1:1, so I'll make another topical with her to try a higher THC version and see how I react to it. I would also like to try making a topical with the Northern Lights when it is harvested. Thinking that might be good for nighttime soreness, but I won't know til I try.

Sounds exactly like what I'm doing, since I think the only way is through trial and error. Just like pharmaceuticals, everyone's body chemistry is different and can have differing reactions.

I plan to experiment with edibles too, especially the Northern Lights. An edible would last longer for bedtime use, and my hope is that it would help with sleep and get me all the way through the night. Fingers crossed!

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

My ails differ significantly from yours, but ebidle indica helps me at bedtime a lot. When I'm having a rough patch or just need a solid sleep I take a 15mg dose after dinner and it helps with sleep and mornings.

One of the guys at my hydro shop produces edibles commercially on the side and runs seminars for making edibles and topicals. I know there's a wealth of knowledge here, but what's cool about this is that its almost like a cooking course, and whatever you make at the seminar, you take home with you. He's running one next week and my wife's going to go!

How wonderful! I wish there was something like that near me....My name would be on that signup sheet in a heartbeat!

Re: Lady Antheia's First Grow - MMJ In Coco - Candida, Blue Dream CBD & Northern Ligh

It is truly amazing what can be done with this plant now compared to what it was used for back in my day, smoke and shitty tasting alfalfa brownies were about it!

Besides smoke, I plan on making a lot of Canna Butter for cooking not only unsalted for sweets, but a salted butter for grilling & meal cooking.

Tinctures sound interesting as well as juicing it...I am old but have a lot to learn yet!

It's so much fun to learn new things and experiment, isn't it? :)

Your idea of salted butter for meats and grilling sounds delicious! I need to add that to my list of projects in the kitchen. Grilled veggies with salted canna butter....Mmmm :yummy:
