Very nice. I think if you spend enough time on the training side of the house, you can get a nice canopy even with Sativas. I am growing ATF (supposedly mostly Sativa) and Durban Poison (another supposedly almost pure Sativa) and they stay pretty managable...but certainly not as easy as with the Blueberry (mostly Indica), and Blue Kush (almost an even hybrid).

Nice. Are you indoor or outdoor? Some of the sativa pics I've seen outdoors are incredibly tall!

Both!!! I am in week 2 of flower indoors with my SSH and outdoors with my Aussie Blues. I'm in Nevada so I put the Australian stain outdoors hoping it will manage the heat better.

Lucky! I wish we could all grow outdoors. Sunshine, cool breezes, rainfall, and the ability to marvel at these amazing plants. Wouldn't it be great to see these all over town and check them out like our neighbor's prized roses? :dreamy:

Yeah that would be awesome! Unfortunately even here in Nevada where it is recreational you still have to be careful. I'm bringing the Aussie Blues inside on Wednesday when I get my second 4x4x6.5 tent. Mostly just worried about them magically growing feet and walking away but I also live in Nevada and soon the temperatures are going to be so high that my baby green thumb won't be able to keep them alive outside.

Update 15V

The growth seems to have slowed a bit. On a hunch I checked the runoff after this morning's feeding. The PPM was higher than what was going in. I've been very careful about PH, but I think the problem may have started when I didn't always get runoff in other feedings. The salts may have had an opportunity to build up.

I flushed with plain water until the PPM began to drop and get in line to normal range: approx 700-800. I might give one more flush tonight, and then will feed a very dilute solution and watch them closely.

I need to get a PPM measurement tool too! I have no idea where I stand with buildup. I kept things pretty simple by going with a simple proven feeding schedule for my first grow, but the post you linked around feeding schedule analysis is threatening to pull me in deeper.

Mine isn't anything fancy. I got on amazon fairly cheap. But I will say that the TDS meter in this combo is much better than the PH meter. The PH takes its sweet time landing on a number. :skeptical:

Yeah, I'll probably do the same. Amazon is amazing for tracking down all of the gear - I have no idea how people managed in the good old days.

Yeah, I love Amazon! Having items show up to my door is incredibly helpful, since the fatigue and sensitivity to heat make it hard to run errands sometimes. I try to give as much business as I can to small, locally owned places - but that isn't always practical. Online shopping has been a lifesaver.

Edited to add: Not to mention, the selection of items that I can't find anywhere else. :blushsmile:

Update 16V

Looks like we are back on track! The girls were much brighter and happier this morning. :blushsmile: More new growth is present and the numbers continue to look good with the very dilute nutes.

(EC is not yet consistent for all four ladies, though. I'm going to need to dial that in. The current numbers are from 0.8 to 2.5)

It's definitely a learning experience. I'm familiar with soil growing for outdoor and indoor gardening, but hydro is totally new to me. I'm learning some really cool stuff, though. In all my years of gardening, I never knew about EC and its importance. I love science!!!

Spitballing session ahead....


Reading lots about seeds: regular, fem, and auto. Seems like regular would be the way to go. I would have control over when to flip, can use males for many things (juicing, edibles, breeding, etc.) Also, I could choose the best of the females and males. Even fem seeds are not guaranteed that they will 100% be fem, but that's what many seed banks are offering so it's not like I have a choice. Auto I don't get at all.

What am I missing here?

A lot of people find autos appealing because you can run a perpetual grow in one tent. You dont need seperate tents and lights for veg and flower.

Thank you. That helps a lot and makes sense. Maybe I'm just very old fashioned, a naturalist, preservationist, or extremely scientific; either way, I still think I like the idea of regular seeds better. :loopy:

For breeding yes, but i think fems are smart if you're just growing buds.
