Konk's 1st Grow: ON Canada

My first outdoor grow I used similar soil mix. Space in ground approx 2.5 feet by 12 ft.used 1/2 bag pro mix , a bag of 5-5-5 sheep and a bag of black earth mixed in with the ground. The first month June there were bugs everywhere and you could kinda smell the sheep manure. After the manure got disperse with rain etc the bugs went away.
I wonder if the cow manure you used might be the source of the bugs?

Welcome JC Grow, I suppose that's plausible but I think the aphids would have been dormant or unseen for 8 weeks and bypassed the soil or never settled on the soil...plant #5, paitent zero, is actually in last year's Miracle Grow. I also made that soil in the bags digging up my compost pile and adding the cow manure in June and mixed it together in the bags in August.

My best guess is plant #5 had been next to some beat up hostas, we got some wind and shortly after I brought them all inside to avoid frost infecting the crop.

Hiya KD!
Thought I'd drop by and say hello! How's the aphid battle going? I see you mentioned you are in week three now of the battle.
Welcome MrS, my math is always a tad sketchy but I think this is week three, it just feels longer ;) I left them out in the rain overnight and they look pretty good today. Aphid wise I aggressively shook the water off, tarped them and after a quick glance I had to go out and they were spared.
The 4 intentional purchased ones look pretty good. The 2 in quarantine are really rough, though, I have been eyeballing the drill bits, screws and toolkit to maybe really stress them out since they are now 7 weeks into flower. I wouldn't consider "nailing" the other 4. Considering a back up experiment to make some aphid lemonade with the lemons I've got.

That seems to be a trend around here lately. Make sure the plant knows the safe word before you start. ;)

I have had a really fantastic 'summer vacation' reading, learning what I can about cannabis, training, tanning, day drinking, spending hours a day hippying and grooving in my cannabis garden but now the snow is coming!
I might have four, probably wet, weeks left to experiment and my last trimming took about 20 days to shine, I have two haggard bagseed plants whispering, 'come on ya big baby, what's the worst that can happen, ya chicken $hit' ... no safe word for them :battingeyelashes:

Alright, tarped the weed wagon yesterday afternoon, it's still covered and still raining...most are dry but temp is dropping and they're gonna need to come in for the night. The quarantine 2 I'll roll into the cedar trees for some coverage but they are not coming near the weed wagon infirmary.
I was relentlessly supervised by this one on the left
and it figures because I asked my manager for her input and she gave me the same old party line...
They are always on me to sit and chat but they never offer anything useful, ever! :)

This break is now 5 days old, looks like I've got it working against itself, needs a stake and some attention.

Little more hope on the dirt empire.

This is Plant #5 or patient zero, I think it is time to shenanigan things up and do something with these 2 plants in quarantine.

They look good to me, they're bulking up and not writhing or wiggling with bugs. I'm gonna head back to jjjr's thread and come up with something. It is now or never, I may just have time to see what happens with snow coming soon and I'll know. :bong:

Any pros, cons, warings, or encouragement are welcome.
Edit: Wanted to say it was one of those days (about 50 second in) lol

Hey Konk! The Empire is striking those aphids back! You're almost there, how cold are your nights getting?

Pretty cold but mostly wet...

I just finished an afternoon checking, mending and perhaps harming the girls. The aphids are not worse anywhere on the dirt empire...this minute! :yahoo:

Impulsive afternoon here on the dirt empire
Nah, this is just maintenace. Left the splint and supported the branch.

Go for broke, nothing to lose, impulsiveness . Let's see what happens, then we will know, right? Plant #5.

Backfilled or nibbled the other side of plant #5.5.

Both of these plants are stressed spares, but why not for experiment sake.

Oooof! Fighting the good fight Konk! Not fun at all but you’re doing great keeping them down.

I think they’re coping with enough stress from the bugs an all the spraying ... I wouldn’t be adding extra stressors. It unlikely to benefit you the way it’s supposed to. They stressed enough!

they look pretty good for what they’re going through. Keep it up!!

:welcome: Amy Gardner, I have been stalking your bug thread and appreciate the info very much! You almost saved them  they are stressed and sad but also spares, they are sport girls now.

Looks good Konk bugs and all :thumb:
:welcome: thanks smokey! I have a bag seed plant to compare the OCS seeds to, so far they seem really "easy" to grow over this exceptional outdoor summer. Ugh, hope that doesn't conjure the wrath of the effing aphid spirits :bongrip:

Speaking of OCS seeds but totally unrelated to your journal :). Pure Sunfarms now has Headband (OG Kush x Sour Diesel) and Cherry Head (Cherry Wine x Headband) seeds available through the OCS. The latter being a balanced 1:1 strain, kind of got me wanting to run an indoor photoperiod grow once these autos are finished and try both strains.

:welcome: nice see you back here JCTJ, were your ears burning? :laughtwo: It's like serendipity I saw that awful plant and your moustache and you've said ask questions. You have your own section of bookmark breadcrumbs, eh, thank you for always giving it to me straight!

^ Sweet! Keep the auto updates coming in your journal, I am super moving that research up my to do list.

I saw 404 seeds that looked intriguing...not autos but they sound like you could beat them up pretty good. I think the ones I have now are maybe mold resistant or somthing outdoor special, I'll find their info.

You've had to deal with a lot lately. Them damn bugs will make ya crazy. You with aphids n me n my thrips. I think next year I will look into a systemic approach with added weekly foliar spray even if I see no bugs at all. Once bugs get a grip it is a bitch to get rid of them...as you well know. Spinosad by the gallon next yr.

Now your heading into the bud rot stage. Bugs are maddening but bud rot kills overnight. Who knew outdoor growing could be so much fun..lol. Your taking it all in stride though and doing what ya have to do. You and I have learned a lot about outdoor cultivation this year.
