Konk's 1st Grow: ON Canada

I have been scheming like Wile E. Coyote and think I am gonna hit them with GreenEarth early in the morning.

When I was a kid I would collect minnows and they were always released by the morning... It was hot today, I collected a bunch of ladybugs and was going to release them in the evening, but they gone. :lot-o-toke:

I collected my traps, shuddered, took some pics and set more. These are my high tech ones with fancy elastics holding the lid. I even remembered to poke holes in them before I set them into each plant. :eye-roll:

I don't have pics of my glue on paper stapled to stakes hack of homemade fly paper. Just as well, it was dripping with moisture from dew & glue. I used a cloth and some warm soapy water to mop up that fail.
That's a lot of bugs. Amazing just how many visit our plants.

Theme song today was war pigs...

Hammered the weed wagon with GreenLeaf, my hands were dotted in bugs. I was thorough and it may not end pretty, but I am not going to watch them get infested like these two aholes.

It started out humid and overcast, so it is super sunny now. Meh, they were drying pretty quickly.

And I had none, not one bug in my high tech traps with the fancy lids, best guess is I solved my aphid problem! Nope, the holes were probably too small... :bong:

Ok, my math was like 80 mls of 80 proof rubbing alcohol + 20ish mls of water makes it sorta 70 ish proof... ya, do your own math!
I then added another 2.25 cups of water. Follow directions, folks..
This is how they look now.

I maybe enjoyed drowning the many new winged little ba$tards that were hanging out on the girls. ;)

The crop treated

Plant #5

Plant 5.5
I had my first bug infestation (thrips) last grow. It was SO discouraging! I know how it feels, dreading to look in the morning, spraying every three days for eternity. My plants made it to the end but it was a severely diminished harvest and I'm still smoking the Safers' Insecticidal Soap as I forgot to bud wash. You'll beat those aphids, they are no match for YOU!

:thanks: I needed that, @HutchBenedict!

Noice! Have you heard the Foo Fighters with Zach Brown? Or the Pigeons Playing Pingpong version? I thought both were very good!
I have not, but I will! :thumb:

After washing the aphid bodies from my hands and chilling for a while I went back to take a peek.
These aphid eaters are so nice to see, not nearly as badas$ as my Wile E. Coyote catch and release plan, but still promising.
It's too bad this one doesn't clearly show the awesome little spider with it's web woven around the stakes actually trapping little black winged ba$tards.

I saw this plant picture in @JCTJ 's thread on September 1st, as a realist the snow and bugs in the region have been on my doom radar. I sort of figure I won't win the lottery or get struck by lightening but this, this is exactly the sort of $hit storm I could encounter...

Something positive to mention here is that I haven't tried to grow or handle cannabis before. I did lst and have tried what has come along, so here I am elbow-deep handling the buds and branches.

Gave them a good watering, fed them, worked them over all, plants #1- 4 are still strong. Plants #5 and #5.5 are spares and look like they were ignored and heavily buggy in spots, like I could make the aphid paste from the Rosenthal article.

Plant #4 is just filling in, she is the spider host plant.

:bongrip: Good thing there are pics with that much rambling!

Sweet repair in the third pic! They recover from everything broken if we just stabilize the break. So far anyway for me, and I've had them held together by a thread.
Thanks, a salvager at heart  I have 3 mends like that on the go. The wire seems strong yet light enough to leave without too much extra support, so far. Always something to stew about.

Plant #5 is still kicking

Shenanigans went better today :lot-o-toke:

I didn't lose my catch, I separated them into containers and just sprinkled them onto each plant this evening. I am just about out of ideas...well, that beetle on the bottom right did lead me down a super lady beetle bug idea but it left shortly after I put it on the plant!

Hey Konks’

Cruising by yours, read the first 6 pages & will catch up soon. Wanna see this bug trap deal too, but my eyes are toast- I can’t read anymore tonight! Great catch on those solo cups - that’s a big problem & you saved the day. Can’t believe they were trying to flower in them.

Cheers & peace out

Check out all those bug eaters!! Hopefully they are hungry, you just gave them the motherload of buffets :thumb:
I sure hope so! We are forcasted cooler temps, lower highs and rain for the next week. I was thrilled to have another hot sunny day and a shot at catching some off the sunny sides of the house.

@Konks Dirt Empire I totally forgot to mention another alternative it dawned on me coming back in here right now. get a spray bottle with rosemary oil and water spray those plants till the aphids prevail. Rosemary oil is a repellent that will kick those suckers in the a

Welcome to the dirt empire!
Thanks for the credit, but your eyes are tired, the poster gave that info. :) I just had to reread it and look at the pics a few times before it computed. :nerd-with-glasses:

Today the crop turns 16 weeks old from seed. Considering they are all hosting or harbouring aphids, I think they look good and they've bulked up this week. I treated them yesterday and will again Sunday. Compared to what I saw on plant #5 last week this is fewer small aphids on the back of leaves and more creepy crawly ones in and around the stems & branches and little black ones with wings. I smushed every single one I saw.

Plants #1-4 have shown pistils for 5 weeks, plant # 5 for 6 weeks.

Plant #1 - Runt

This is the original MacGyver splint. I left it in place to support that branch on the outside of my mesh set up. It also catches the breeze in that spot.

Pic dump...

Those two salvages in front might just produce a bowl or two!

Plant #5 if you zoom in on the leaf at the front (or bottom of the pic) the right side looks quite purple to me. Not so much in the pic, I'll look tomorrow.

Plant #5.5, Left side was not touched, all flowers right of the orange line were "nibbled" 12 days ago... was thinking since I jumped the gun here, I could maybe trim the untouched ones. Still an experiment, right. She was actually pretty gross with aphids when I got to her. I'll let her ride a while.

Hey you :)

I notice you Defol. At what age do you recommend taking her bottom petticoat off?

I am flying by the seat of my pants here @TraLa, I went at mine around 13 weeks from seed, but the timing was due to the plants being crowded and their leaves overlapping. If I thought the leaves were laying on each other I thinned them. Only one I cleaned up deliberately was plant #1 in the screen and it was maybe after the stetch and preflower, just into flower...I forget :bong:
Confirm with the big dogs for recommendations on defoliation, I see many say not to.
Hope that helps!
