Hummm... My temps have never been below 64 at night and that was only a few times. It averages 68-78 for the most part and I know that some it can be strain specific but every single plant I have grown has done it. My humidity levels have been horribly high at times but I have it under control now but unless it happened when I just wasn't paying attention it has never been really cold in the closet especially... IDK... King I know you have the answer to this so will patiently await your answer. Thanks for the reply Pinky...

From my research purple stems can come from three things.....

1. Lower nighttime temps.
2. CA/MG deficiency
3. Root bound, in other words too small pot.

I am getting them cause 1 or 2, my nighttime temps are in the mid 60's during winter, so I been giving extra ca/mg just in case.

And of course some strains express it no matter what.

Plants grown under LED lights typically use higher amounts of calcium and magnesium. Calcium and magnesium are being supplemented so I do not have a deficiency.

Also could you elaborate on this a little King John?

High King All the stems on every plant I have grown have been purple so with that said does it mean they have all had a cal/mag deficiency? And if yes what exactly does that mean to the plant? I have never added it and they seem to have done well so if I had added it what would the difference be?.....

I had to put my heater back in the tent because my Bubba White Shark started to get some purple one the stems. The new growth is back to normal. Our temp at night has been down in the 30s

lmao...I bumped up my CalMag this morning too when I fed. I have a few purple stems, but I did last time too, and didn't address CalMag deficiency until KJC suggested bumping it back up and checking. I started both of my last 2 grows with about half-strength (2.5ml/gl), and increased to 5ml/gl on my last grow for the last 4-5 weeks of flower when some minor deficiency made it to the leaves as well.

I'm sure it may sound obvious to some, but I'm using RO water and LED's so, things are weighted towards the possibility of having this deficiency, and CalMag isn't necessarily something you need to increase gradually like grow/flower nutes. I should have started them at 5ml/gl and will continue at that rate for the rest of this grow unless they ask me to stop.

I use 10ml of CalMagic per gallon and my girls seem to love it!

Would you still need to supplement CalMag if you have hard water KJC? (Because i do ) I'm also growing LED as you know so may need to supplement also

Purple stems are a possible sign of a calcium and magnesium deficiency, others have suggested that purple stems are a sign of a phosphorous deficiency or genetic. If the stems are purple on the underside of the leaves this is a sign of a deficiency. You should not have to supplement calcium and magnesium if you have hard water.

lmao us with past cal burn know not to feed too much cal or else you will get rust spots quick same as when the blight attacks a tomato plant and they love calcium it takes their calcium real quick.

King, I have very hard water, and my girls were looking limp until I added CalMagic.

It may be the magnesium that is helping more then the calcium from your CalMagic. As long as you are not seeing any signs of nutrient lockout I would continue to add your CalMagic. A better solution would be a Reverse Osmosis system and supplementing with calcium and magnesium.

Scientifically I believe that the full spectrum LED creates a higher electrical charge in the plants then plants under High Pressure Sodium. I believe the higher calcium and magnesium required by plants under LED lights may have something to do with the actual spectrum of the light and the type of energetic reaction within the photosynthetic cells.

Hi king Got a question.... I read somewhere that you should leave the girls in the dark for 3 days before chopping. Do you know a reason you should do that and why? Was just curious if there was any validity to it....

I read a study where plants were given 24 hours of darkness before harvest and plants were not given a period of darkness before harvest. Both plants cannabinoids were tested and were nearly identical, the myth of giving your plants a period of darkness before harvest has been debunked.

The taller plants were watered with a nutrient solution consisting of 5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Gro, 5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Micro, 5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Bloom and 5 millilitres per gallon of calcium and magnesium. The shorter plants were watered with a nutrient solution consisting of 2.5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Gro, 2.5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Micro, 2.5 millilitres per gallon of Flora Bloom and 5 millilitres per gallon of calcium and magnesium.
