Re: KelticBlue's 2017 - Soil - Ace Seeds Pure Pakistan Chitral Kush x Kali China Yunn
Not bad at all.
I find as I go on that in my smaller tents smaller pots make more sense. I went with bigger and didn't see the increase in volume I wanted. Went back to smaller and refined training, and now I'm much happier.
Small pots don't get the respect they due, don't you agree? Working LOS with smaller pots is more of a challenge, which elevates your improvement, IMO. Doc's kit makes small pot growing much easier, but even so it can be tricky. I have great respect for your talents my friend.
Small pots get no respect...
I do. But, It is only luck my soil has life in the small container. I know I will be on soluble nutes in that pot next grow or maybe once to get me through flower boost.
Oh it is alive now. I can tell by the thrips, just one or two, it is too dry for them (me thinks) outside of the soil. Something is munching on my leafs/leaves. prolly a thrip. soil surface got a neem oil spray earlier this week. thrips come and go but never in force in this soil. Not a one on the sticky trap.
It has been my impression the DBHB needs a 'certain volume' to maintain the microbes for the magic. (maybe 5 gal)?
If i could do like the "August Grower Duggan" and have 26 gal for the babies, I would have DBHB and also carrots, tomatoes and any other veggie magic lovers in there with the canna. I worry in a smaller pot DBHB might loose too much after first run and I do lazy and recycle re-amend LOS. It is running out of steam, I need to re do my base soil, maybe pay the shiping from BAS. That first run soil tho, wowza it is schweet.
I do believe in the earthbox jr I can re-run LOS for a long time. Heck the stuff I got is 3 years old???
Brings me to today's drama. So the Zammy-D is looking all plump wide and stout with stretch just showing. So I thinks to self --Gonna has to pull that top over let the secondary catch up-- and in general train for height. I notice the main stem is not growing straight up but at an angle, so i pull the top this way and that to see which is best direction to go.--------------
The main stem, at soil level comes loose, and I see the stem narrows out and turns a funny color brown just below soil level.
Not good. Off to doctor mode.
I push up soil to cover the stem to the bottom node, (I remember PeeJay not liking that to support a streched stem but this is different)I cut a bit of aloe filet, drip the juice on the bottom of the stem and soil surrounding and place the aloe skin on top of the same soil area.
Lemme try to illustrate in picture, here it is after, the soil was almost up to the first node before, so it didnt take much, have a looky...
the darker mulch cover and the green aloe fillet skin.
It is so packed in and stout it is hard to get a look at the soil level. Here is a side view before I noticed the stem this morning...
It was about 6 am and I got a little out of sorts, I always close my knife that I cut aloe with after I use it. But I found it left open which is not like me. It looks a bit used but it is sharp and someone (me) could easily get hurt.
never leave knife like this open:
More update to follow.
Edit: also part of my emer medicine was a spray bottle full of distilled water with silica and growers recharge mix top feed. silica for the roots and recharge for the soil web.. The old lambsquarter is doing good, so I dunno.
