Hey, I resemble that remark! I prefer the term "eclectic." :laughtwo:
Lol thatā€™s funny because you were one of the people I was thinking of šŸ˜‚

Upon further review of my grammar, I have to concur, eclectic is probably a fairer, more respectable way of describing us šŸ¤£
Oh I'm eclectic all right......we should run a coalition for eclectic folk on 420

The words that come to mind with this thought are colorful and zany šŸ¤£
Omg I can see our poster board now....like a bunch of super distorted, obsessive compulsive, over zealous hippies. Who's bringing the lysol wipes? I need likes 24 packs with all of these nut bags in one room

And only one of us is making eye contact with the camera and that was by accident šŸ¤£

Great, now everyone in the coalition heard you say camera and I'm staring at a bunch of what looks like almost hairless ostriches with their heads in holes in the ground

Hey, with all of my extracts, I'm not saying I'm not eccentric, I'm just saying I don't like to advertise the fact.

And eclectic describes our varied interests and approaches quite well without announcing to the world that many of us are just a bit outside the main current. :cheesygrinsmiley:

Update

I have decided to go with four 10 gallon containers instead of one 15 and three 10s. My reasons are as follows:

- I have 48 gallons of soil. The prior configuration would leave me with 3 gallons of soil left over. Iā€™m not comfortable with this low amount of headroom. You never know if youā€™re gonna need extra soil for any reason so Iā€™d rather not pin my hopes on 3 gallons remaining.

- This soil is fresh out of the bag and highly amended. It will be more than powerful enough to push a 10 gallon through nutrient wise and I believe I have enough carbon. Iā€™ll likely add spikes of EWC/Coco and perlite to make sure.

- Having each plant in the same size container will allow me to maximize my space. 5ā€™x5ā€™x5ā€™ is my max flower space. Running 10 gallons for 60 days of veg is gonna make big plants that will require uniformity to maximize this space.

- This frees me up to do experiments and grow other plants in the 15 gallon container

- The 10 gallons are specifically designed for training the plant with grommets around the rim

Thereā€™s also a few random reasons like having to physically deal with a 15 gallon versus a 10 as well šŸ˜‚

Sounds like a hands on good time man! 5 feet of headroom from the floor with 10's will be a heavy lst event eh? Mainline's?

5 after the pots (12.5 inches). Still not a lot but yeah mainlining. Should keep them low enough or Iā€™m gonna have to get real creative šŸ˜‚

Bam! I knew better than to push the soil limit and run 10s versus a 15 and 10s. I just know myself lol I always need extra of everything. Imagine how spontaneous I must be šŸ¤£šŸ¤£

I just remembered that Iā€™m gonna have to transplant 6 plants from solo cups into 1 or 2 gallon pots before I can sex the Blue Thai. Iā€™m flowering 4 plants but sprouting 6. Even running 12/12 for the first ten days Iā€™ll still have to wait until day 30 for sex which is too long to stay in a solo cup. This means Iā€™ll need at least 2-4 extra gallons of soil I wasnā€™t counting.

I should have plenty of amendments for my spikes and layers, and can always buy more if I need to.. I canā€™t cook up extra soil on the spot. Itā€™s at a bare minimum 30 day turnaround and I prefer closer to 45.

On Wednesday I am gonna prep containers for planting. Friday morning I will plant myco covered seeds and place them under my light, 2 feet away, at 25%, and let them run under 12/12 for the first 10-14 days depending on how long they take to sprout. The apple Betty and Runtz punch are both feminized (I won them, I wonā€™t buy feminized seeds, only regular) but they should enjoy the easier light anyway.

I priced compost tumblers and theyā€™re too expensive for the size I want so Iā€™m going to build my own.

Iā€™m gonna get either a 55 gallon drum (preferably blue HDPE but Iā€™ll take metal), or a 55-95 gallon trash can. Iā€™d prefer the 95 gallon can but Iā€™ll take what I find/get. The size will determine whether I build a triangle frame or attempt a modified gimbal frame. Either way, this should decrease the amount of work for the soil exponentially, saving me time and effort while allowing me to mix very effectively.

It begins.. Today I prep the solo cups and reset the room. I will fill the solo cups with the mixed up seedling soil that has been ā€œcookingā€ in the soil room. The recipe for that mix is a few posts back, Iā€™ll probably cover it again after I plant.

I will add the seedling mix to the solo cups leaving about an inch of space from the top. I am either not going to mulch the solos or just use very little. The mulch didnā€™t seem to make a big difference in the solos last round and wound up being a hassle when it came time for transplant.

Iā€™ve been debating whether or not to soak the soil in voodoo juice. Itā€™s pure bacteria/microbes and the plants absolutely loved it last time. Maybe one or two cups.. weā€™ll see, I almost always call audibles mid process šŸ˜‚

I wonā€™t bother adding myco until I plant the seeds. The mix comes with a charge already and itā€™s pretty useless stuff until roots appear on the scene.

The cups will get placed in the room to acclimate and on Friday I will plant the seeds.

Resetting the room consists of putting everything back into position and making sure everything is wiped down and cleaned. When bloom happens I hang lots of clips, hooks, support lines, etc. and move my fans around, so the room has a lot of extra stuff it doesnā€™t need for veg and 5 fans in flower position. Since itā€™s no longer winter Iā€™ll be able to push the walls out and create a 6x6-7x7 area to move around in. This will let me access my 5x5 flowering area from all angles. Iā€™ll mark the floors where the pots should sit for best light distribution and get my temporary table setup to keep my plant tops 24-32 inches from my light until mid flower.

As always Iā€™ll post pics and a recap of everything once Iā€™ve finished.

Had a customer give me a really good tip today so I splurged and bought legit plant elevators with drip trays (18 inch elevator, 20ish inch drip tray) and upgraded my plastic 1 and 2 gallons to smart pots. I figured with the new 10 gallons pots that are 16 inches I was already going to have to figure out a new way to get them off the floor since milk crates arenā€™t large enough.

The plant elevators and drip trays remove a lot of work and configuring and I can use them for solos up to a 15 gallon container so itā€™s a pretty efficient purchase. I swore last grow I was done with plastic pots after having roots stuck to the bottom floor. The 1 gallon smart pots donā€™t look as large as the plastics so I also grabbed 2 gallon smart pots.. Iā€™m gonna use both and see which works better for my solo, Veg, flower transplants.

I found transplanting from 1 gallon fabric pots a bit of a hassle, but the ones I used weren't Smart pots. If smart pots have a round base you can put them on paint cans and pull the sides down to get the rootball out. My pots have a square base.

What was the hassle? This was a concern of mine with the fabrics. I struggle to pull harvested root balls out without making a mess. I have a 2 gallon spring filled pot as well Iā€™m concerned with. It keeps itself stood up with the spring in its walls but Iā€™m concerned the roots will wrap on it.

The pots are rounded bottoms.. My hope was, if I can push them to 30 days in the one gallons, the root balls will be tight/strong enough itā€™ll pop out easy.

I was gonna pm @Gee64 this question but figured the information would be valuable here as well:

So I was rereading about Revs seeds in the 2nd edition and he says his genetics are all TLO all the time and implies with his genetics you can sprout right in the TLO mix.

Whatā€™s your opinion on this? Should I fill up another solo and try going straight into his mix with the Blue Thai or am I asking for trouble?

The air pruning effect keeps the roots from colonizing the outer edge of the soil so it makes a mess when you pull it out. The 1g fabrics I have are also very thick fabric, with a bit of a lip at the edge. Like the hem on a pair of jeans. That made it hard to fold it over to get the rootball out.
The best method I found was to turn the pot inside out around the soil, or to lift the plant by the stem and tug the pot off a bit at a time. It works with bigger pots, but with the smaller ones the rootball kind of fell apart as I pulled it out.
