JZ's Shootout: Part Deux

Subbed, should be able to learn some here.
Thanks, GodSpeed; I hope I can share what little I know, ask any questions you might have! :Namaste:
Yeppers, I'm subbed too....Grape GodxBig Bud sounds interesting! Good Luck to ya for a successfull new grow...
Heya, Quix! Like I said, I tasted both parents, and it's gonna be awesome. Since these are F1 beans, I expect to get a variety of phenos, but in the parents, the only real negative was that the Big Bud seemed to have wussy stalks. The Grape God was a beefy mom (sorta like my ex-wife).
Hi JZ. Glad I am to find you here; thanks for the link.
No more fooling around :cheer:
Thank you sir. I know I did very well with hydro previously, and fully expect to do so this time as well. :Namaste:

After soaking for 24 hours, the 5 Big Grape God seeds were popped into the 50/50 coir/husk mix in the tiny Air Pots. They're all being covered with some 5" pots to hold a little moisture in until they get above ground level. I'm going to still rely on the the 'wick' method for keeping these babies hydrated through early growth, just using weak nute solution after they get a couple of sets of leaves.

Thanks for stoppin' by! :thanks:

Looking good Brother, I am going to do some work to the website, get a link to this new grow up!

Thanks for sharing your experiences, they always cant be good ones! I think your gonna knock this one outta the park!

Hi JZ,

Just dropped by to say Hi...can't wait to see the new setup.

Did I read it right...the WW clones didn't make it?

:peace:

Thanks man, I really felt I didn't do right by the lights last time, so back to what brought me here, hydro. I appreciate you being patient with me, brother :thanks:

Nah, they're still alive - I re-cut the stems, used rooting gel and stuck them in root riot/rapid rooter (whatever brand I bought) cubes and have them under a humidity dome. I just planted the GG x BB seeds as a hedge against the failure of the cuts to root. :high-five: Thanks for droppin' by!

I did find that coir and soil 50/50 (well, the stuff I get) seems to be the ticket.
I believe that the higher % coco coir, the better. I get hydro results when every fertigation includes a generous run-through to flush. Saturated straight coco coir has plenty airspace/flow, and a huge water carrying capacity, but...
the most amazing desirable quality is that it is the cheapest stuff I can fill a pot with :smokin:

Re: Part Deux: Clones and Beans

Don't worry SteveHman: Dirt is great for burying the opposition! :high-five:

I thought we put Bin Laden into a hydro-rest instead of a dirt-nap?

Not sure I how missed part deux? I'm subbed now though. Plants are looking good, no hot soil to burn them up.

4 Wonder Woman clones are rooted up and in the coco filled Air Pots, as well as 5 sprouted Grape God x Big Bid seedlings. They're sitting in a tray with 1/4th strength FloraNova Grow nutes and about 6" beneath one of the 300W lights.

Will provide pics in a few days. :Namaste:

So those clones rooted on the second go? :goodjob: Can't wait for more pics!

Hey bro, Ive been meaning to ask what you thought of Big Bud... I've heard mixed reviews as far as potency, but I got some free seeds with my last order and have a young mother now almost ready to go. I'm trying to decide how much space to dedicate to the strain. The breeder was Doggies Nuts.

I've got one word for you brother... "chum". :)

The Big Bud mom (sister? This is soooo incestual!) was a great producer, but I'd liken the high to some high grade middies I've had before - with more long term effect. The aroma wasn't phenomenal, but not unpleasant at all; I think the cure was not the best though; we'll see what I can come up with! :thanks:

I'm suspecting if I pull the right pheno, I'll have a high yielding, kick-your-head-to-the-moon and feel no pain strain to perpetuate. I'm intrigued by the WW, as sqwheels as shown - it's a beastly strain; I may have to get more additions for the hydro setup!

I considered the possibilities of a Big Bud cross for a commercial strain (solely on it's reputation as a monster yielder, mind you), but as a keeper for my own use, I guess I'll just have to try it myself...there are worse things in life than having to try yet another (sigh), different strain of marijuana... :)

I know sqwheels was having some issues with hermies, but my Nirvana White Widows turned out great! Everybody LOVES it. :thumb: I've even been told there's nothing close available in the area right now.

I'm starting to worry that so-called 'medical strains' are starting to get homogenized as far as taste; I'm trying to (someday) just have a 'house' strain that I call mine, and it's optimized for my system...just part of the scientist in me :high-five:

Things afoot:

I've decided that the present is as good a time as any to get this thing in gear; I've decided to eschew any barrier between the lights, my logic follows in a bit. The 'Easy 2 Grow' setup I have supports up to 6 plants (2 x 3 pods, for lack of a better term), I have a 4 plant set up. The 'pods' have the two growing buckets very close together, so they'll be directly under the best footprint for each light. I'm not sweating the overlighting effect, as they'll be no plants in that area to worry about. K.I.S.S., right? :circle-of-love:

Repotting the 4 Wonder Woman cuts into their pods, each pod will have one each filled with coco coir and grodan grow cubes, kinda two birds/one grow thing. Nutes will be (initially) ½ strength FloraNova Grow in RO/DI with 5ml/gal Ca-Mg added.

Hope this doesn't violate the posting rules, but here's a vid of how this system is supposed to work:

AutoPot Easy2Grow Kit Animation - YouTube

In the meantime, the 5 GGxBB babies will be staying in their little nests, getting top watered with nutes - the mix seems to me to be retaining too much moisture via the 'wick' method. As soon as they get a bit bigger, I'll move them into the 2' x 2' tent and sex them - and find a mom.

Anyhow - I have work to do; tent is cleaned out and sanitized; time to finish the hydro setup and get the WW girls in their new homes :thanks:
