Journeying Into The Unknown With High Brix

Just figured I would share a few details on progress at sixteen days. They look like happy plants for now. They are drying out nicely. I want to water but they need to go another day. Root building.

I bet you all can guess based on the pictures what today is. I put some soil in the bottom of the pot and then placed an empty cup in where the rootball will go.

Sprinkled the roots and moulded soil holes with Roots powder.

Added the plants and lightly tamped.

I mixed a quarter of a dose of transplant into one gallon of water and split it up between the four plants and called it done. They are twenty two days old today. Besides the one that yellowed in the lower growth they look great. Not worried about that since the newer growth looks healthy. That's it for now. Ttyl.

I was wondering, is it a common occurrence to have five bladed leaves at the second node? The same plant has seven leaves in the third and fourth nodes and nine leaves on the fifth. I think it's uncommon but I could be totally wrong. Btw, the first node is single bladed.

Not Common in anything I have grown, usually 7 is about the most I see and thats certainly not at the 3rd Node.
Sounds like she wants to sprint :thumb:

EDIT:
I need to add this is my first grow in the Kit so maybe it is, did not think having a topped plant
would do a resurrection of the main stem but well there it was :)

Day 23 Update, Group photo:

I know, real exciting but there is work to be done. I micro topped the sixth node on three of them. The plant that Y'd out on its own is still working on its fifth node. Micro topping will have to wait til it develops more. I did notice on that plant that if I trimmed two leaves off in the middle it would open up the middle to light and encourage it to sprout to catch up. See below for the after picture.

I decided that the plants were mature enough to put the 300 watt LED back in. I'm hoping the extra light will offset the T12s distance away from the canopy. It's only ten inches. The LED is sixteen inches from the plants.

On a side note I just purchased the Vortex 347 CFM S Line S-600 Fan, 6" to replace the noisey fan I currently have. That should be delivered by Wednesday. Even more exciting I will be purchasing a 300 Watt COB Grow Light Kit to replace the T12s. I guess my only question is, what temperature should I get to be used in veg and flower 3000k or 3500k?

Plants got some low stress training and micro topped the last one that needed it. Probably need water in a day or two. They are getting pretty light when I pick them up. The new fan should be delivered tomorrow. The lights sound like they will be towards the end of the week. Oh I added some water to the cooked bins of soil to prevent dry conditions.

Package in the mail day update:
Here is day twenty six one hour after lights on. Featuring the auto topped plant in the front left of this picture.

Another view but this one show cases the nine bladed plants. Also the pots are getting very light but the plants aren't showing any signs yet. Let me know what you guys think. Water or wait?

As for "Package in the mail update", I got my new 6" ,340 cfm, and speed adjustable fan. Intial test out the box was very good. Compared to my running fan this new one is silent. I'm reluctantly plugging old fan back in to use til this weekend when I install new one.

I think you're good to wait on water until first signs of wilt. Then you'll get the best result from your plants. Very close tho, one or two days on a couple but that one plant looks to still be reaching so she may have more time before water. Don't always wait to feed them all at the same time. You may have to heavy drinkers and light drinkers. So if one or two look weak and tired then they probably should get fed first, waiting a day maybe two to feed when the other plants show the signs that it's time. Looking good over here bud! Those plants are doing some interesting things early on. .

I agree with you 7. Next question is, would this be the time to start some GE or something to the dunking water when I water? I will probably do some training at the same time.

Today is the day I get to replace the noisey inline fan and replace the T12s with COBs. Yay! I have been excited to do it since I bought the new equipment. Waiting on shipping can be such a drag. While I am replacing the old fan with the new one I am changing my "hvac" from a sealed/recirculating to a unsealed/circulating system. By doing so I will be drawing cooler air from an attic like space between the main floor of the unit and the garage. Air conditioned air from the unit sinks through the floor into the attic space since the floor is not insulated like the garage ceiling is. I will run a insulated duct through the garage ceiling directly into the tent. The fan and fliter will be in the tent and will vent into the garage. My last grows was done this way. I decided to change it at the beginning of this grow when I setup the tent. I took pictures during installation for you all to see what I did.

First step, find the board I used to hang my fan/filter in the tent and add another to it that is as wide as the new fan mounting system.
1500743057099-1053213578.jpg

I screwed the two pieces together. Drilled pilot holes for the fan mount.
1500743155551-492870713.jpg

Screwed down everything tight.
1500743656538-2103899885.jpg

Tested it in the tent to make sure it's good to go.
1500743706906-496968609.jpg

Test for fan.
15007439091041647761003.jpg

Installed the filter and reducer. Ran insulated ducting that is the exhaust out of the top port of tent. That part is now half done.
15007453204082075659136.jpg

Now for the inlet side of the hvac system. I forgot to take a picture of the ducting in the tent for this part but you will see it in other pictures of this post. In the next picture, that is a piece of Styrofoam that conveniently had a six inch round hole so I used it at the inlet of the ducting in the attic area. You will see why below.
1500747454203-1642116034.jpg

I cut some filter material to match the Styrofoam duct inlet.
1500747167781-1646876008.jpg

Inlet in attic area complete.
15007476037101548187899.jpg

Next is installing the new cobs. A 300 watt kit from a former sponser containing six of the Citizen leds, with a meanwell driver that runs all six cobs and a riostat dimmer. I was surprised how big and heavy the driver was. Below is a picture of the kit.
1500754515323-2129520236.jpg

Below you will see the rods I cut to fit the tent where I will hang the cobs from. This way I will be able to move the rods back and forth from the center, out. I will be able to slide the cobs sideways as well. Also in this picture you can see the straight inlet ducting from the attic area.
1500754664119989068724.jpg

I used wire that is for plant tying/training as hangers. I was going to use clothes hangers but they were to thick for the application.
1500770195309842577989.jpg

Last but not least is the money shot. Cobs, driver, exsisting led, and plants. I have the new lights turned down to about fifty percent.
15007768758721229621196.jpg

Now I have 600 watts of lighting in the tent drawing about 425 watts from the wall. As for watering them, since I was working on the tent, the plants were in the reptile tank all day covered up for the night cycle. For daytime they got some light from the cfls that are in the tank hood. They look droopy but I'm not sure if it was because of the weird day or showing dry signs. So I will check on them in the morning before lights out. That way they will get about ten hours under the new lights. If they are still droopy I will water them then. I looked at the bottom of one pots and I have roots poking out. That's a good sign to me that the roots are growing. Do you guys think they are big enough to start feeding them? I am going to bed now. Ttyl

Back again to give some more info. Today the plants are thirty three days and happy with the improvements. Here is a picture of the plants after I watered with GE and tea seven hours before and a night period.
1500850356432-1049751550.jpg

The tent daytime temps used to run around 83 degrees and below you can see what its running at now after changing the hvac system. The top number is the garage temp and the middle number is inside the tent.

Laterz.

Well...guess I'll tag along for another Brix journal...like the look of those COB's TB...a definite upgrade from the T12's...lolool...cheerz...h00k...:Hookah:
Thanks for stopping by. :welcome:

I definitely like a nice GE drench in a day or so from those pics....soak 'em and dunk 'em and let 'em dry out again.
Funny thing, that's how it went down. Sounds like I'm on the right track.

I wonder if water temperature affects a plant when watered? Is there a too hot or cold temperature?

Hey there a triple beam, glad everything is looking so good over heat. Yes and yes is the answer. To hot and to cold can hurt the roots. I believe keeping the feeding temps in the mid 70s is what we want but I don't know the specify bad numbers but I'm sure it's around the same out growing temps. We would definitely want to stay away from low 50s and high 90s ya know. Take it easy bud!!
