Jon's Sneak It In Auto Grow

Hey @Grand Daddy Black - He said he’s never tried side lighting cuz with greenhouse and LED supplement he said he has never needed to even bother.
I’m not yet sold myself. Won’t know til harvest. But so far, idk, I think I’d have this same thing without them. Not sure if they are having the desired effect or not. Hard to tell. But I haven’t burned anything, and the plants do look good and pretty consistent, so we’ll ride it out. But if I perceive yields to be no better than I’ll be prepared to say all it did for me was make defol a full time job. I have a feeling I will reap the fruit at the end in the final fattening phase. Hoping so anyway.

The tent is already awash in flowers and your closet is living its best life! I'd wait for the clone to happy up before pelting it with more light. Oh and excellent delarfing day. :thumb:
Is it larf? I’ve always said flarf. Omg that’s hilarious. Where’d I get the extra f I wonder? Well I like flarf better anyway. Lol!

I thought that was why you put flarfication or whatever with smilies next to it as an funny word mumble 🤣😆

Nick 😂
It was, but only because I thought the term “Deflarfication” was amusing. When Shed said nice DeLARFing day was when I perked up. Lol

On Feeding Autos…

Someone said,

“If you don’t have yellow tips you’re not trying hard enough. “

I kinda roll with that though. I’ve been hammering these plants with nutes for the whole grow basically. I couldn’t (or wouldn’t) hit them any harder than I have. It’s frankly been a bit ridiculous. But it illustrates (maybe) my theory that autos can take more abuse than photos. On all levels. Nute abuse, light abuse, environmental abuse - I’ve put autos through all that crap and for the most part they simply roll with it and say may I have another. I believe this based on much observation. I would never treat a photo the way I treat common gutter autos. Let’s not lose sight of who the king is, my love for autos aside. Photos laugh at autos, if they even bother. And that’s despite the advances in auto genetics. Lmao!!!

How many autos does it take to screw in a lightbulb ?

I hammer autos pretty consistently with nutes and rarely if ever do I have an overload on anything. I almost always begin whatever nutes I’m using at the highest levels for both veg and flower. The difference is usually nominal from the lowest to highest levels imo. I just push and push until they say enough. And they really rarely do. All these plants have been pushed the same, ie, each day they all get the same mix for that day. I mix fresh each morning. If there’s some left it goes into the next days mix.

Here’s the first sign on any of the 8 plants that one has said uncle. Check out the sexy yellow tips on the Gorilla Zkittlez. Ok, no more PK 13/14. That’s the culprit, I’m sure of it. I’m not pounding the base Remo mix nearly enough and had no yellow tips before the second addition of that booster. It’s certainly not from the Kelp Me Kelp You or Wholly Mackerel. Nor the MSA or Calmag. By process of elimination alone that must be it. Ok, might have gone a tad too far. Hee hee. She’ll be fine. There’s an overhead shot too.

Morning @InTheShed - a little ways back you asked me about what worked in the aqua setup? (paraphrasing). I was thinking about that and found this picture. This was the most successful setup and one I’d use again. That’s a five gallon AirPot rolled into about a 2 1/2. The outcroppings on the pot made it an easy insert for the lid of a five gallon bucket, both for support and to keep it even. Obviously AirPot is good for the upper pot to max root development relative to speed. Get down to the bucket girl! Then the two rows of holes under the lid was my air/perlite space and I dropped it onto the lower res when I saw roots on the bottom. This one was the right size upper pot and the right way to have the little air gap which gets the bubbles from the air stone and entices the roots down. For what it’s worth!

Edit: also, if/when you fill the five gallon bucket with roots and decide to move to a larger res (as I did with that Watermelon Wedding Cake shown here) you simply cut the hole in the new res and sit this setup as shown on top. Easy as hell and you already then get the nice buffer with the lid.

Thanks Jon! That was an excellent setup. :thumb:

In terms of moving up to a larger res...you know that ain't gonna happen. Life is so much easier when plants live in one spot their entire lives. :)

Ha! I couldn’t agree more. I did mine in the tent as you saw. Res changeover was as easy as filling the res right next to the five, lifting off the lid, and dropping the roots in the new hole. Heh. He said hole. But the way you do it? Hell I wouldn’t even want to lug a five around. Let’s see, a gallon of water is eight pounds, right? So that’s forty pounds on the bucket. It’s a 50-60 pound thing by the end of the day. Iffy to lug for a whole grow. I also have a bunch of the second most common bucket size, mine are discarded drywall paste buckets, which is 3.5 gallons. That’s plenty to start with. Maybe if you have that size it would be easier to use it until they outgrow and need the five? Would save your back and money on nutes at the same time?

Now here’s an auto to get excited about…

I started mine in a solo cup SWICK and then a 1 gallon SWICK, all built exactly the same way as the nesting 5 gallon buckets. There's nothing bigger than that that would also be schleppable. I'm looking forward to pulling it apart after harvest and seeing what's going on under all that plastic!

It’s exciting! Yeah you’re basically using uppotting mentality with the buckets. That’s very smart.
