Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

Damn! Any reason you can think of that all three hermied on you? Those are some bad odds.
One went and got the others is my guess. And the only answer is not dark enough in the dark spot. Too often getting hit with Christmas lights, spotlights, light from the neighbors pool, etc. I did the same thing as last year and had no issues last year really. But the ambient light has increased a lot in a year as every house in the street got sold and has people in it often this season. The environment was very close on the switch as I was running veg passively and letting them get used to outside temps. I can honestly say I made no mistakes with these. And we’re talking two Ethos and one Barney’s Farm plant, so it isn’t like I used freebie seeds.

Shit.

Oh, so one hermied and the others got seeded? I'd let the seeded ones ripen and mulch the hermie.
Well, I decided to completely eliminate all record of them. Double sealed heavy plastic garbage bags. Change clothes and wash up real good before going back in the garage. Try my best to minimize any pollen leakage. I don’t care about making seeds. And don’t really have the operational capabilities in terms of the yard to do a mulch pile. Just get back on the horse. I had stuff popping just in case. I knew this was a possibility. I’m over it. I don’t stress that which I cannot control. Or try not to anyway. Lol.

So our new look grow at the moment consists of:

- Platinum Mimosa Cookies XXL Auto in flower in the 5x5
- Strawberry Haze Photo in veg in the 3x3
- Mimosa Photo (Blimburn Seeds) popped and waiting to surface in the 3x3
- Green Crack Auto seed in cup of water soaking

The PMC auto is still stretching and beginning to make budlets.

The Strawberry Haze got uppotted to her final 7-gallon pot today. She also got topped above the 5th node, and I took the two big fans at the fourth node that cover everything. This plant is already leafy enough that I felt okay to take them. I am considering just letting her go from here. No training other than the main topping and some side branch topping. She will flower in the 5x5 so she can get as big as she wants. Choices, choices. Lol.

The Mimosa had a very sweet tap root sprouted when she hit the Solo cup yesterday.

Reset! Here we go! Again. Here’s the Strawberry Haze today post uppotting.

Damn sorry to hear Jon! All that holiday light thing is done now so next run will be back to normal!
Thanks @StoneOtter. I’m going to try just one at a time outside. See how that goes. I still have time to flower a photo outside. The Blimburn Seeds Mimosa will be the one.

I’m also going to construct some form of light block for nighttime.

And yeah, even if it wasn’t the light and it was just a plant that naturally hermied as some do, I still can’t control the spread of pollen and I have yet to see a nanner or any sign of that crap even though I looked carefully every day. They’re either not showing or they’re easy to miss outdoors. So if I do just one, at least if it goes that way there’s no adjunct damage.

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Hope it wasn't the tropicanna B that went hermi & you give it another try

Thanks @Joe Brewster - I highly doubt it was the TB that went first. And I will certainly be growing it again. It hurt to kill it though. The buds were fattening up sweetly. I should have suspected sooner when I noticed they had stalled for like three days. Oh well.

Stem Porn

The Mandarin Zkittlez was going to be extremely productive. Easily it was a half pound plant. Not bad for its size. Dense, sticky like crazy buds that smell super skunky.

Here’s why:

Strawberry Haze
Finer Training

Going old school with this one and doing the one plant scrog from underneath thing. We’re going to try to establish the canopy right about where the two topping branches in the center are.

Autoflower Pot Construction

Thought you guys might enjoy a quick 18-picture step-by-step of my pot construction for the next auto to pop. It will be the Green Crack if she pops, or another White Widow. This setup is designed to be up-reservoired when necessary. We start in the 3.5 gallon bucket pictured and it’s easy enough to replace the lid and plant onto a 5-gallon bucket. We’re going for roots into water much more quickly this time - as early in veg as possible.

Here we go…

1. Begin with this small starter pot.

2. Cut hole in bottom.

3. Cut cup for net out of a plastic plant stand.

4. Insert net into hole and trim out hole to get snug fit.

5. Couple inches of perlite #3, rinsed.

6. Coco and then a layer of bokashi and frass.

7. Thin layer of perlite and then coco to the top.

8. Cut hole in lid of bucket and insert pot.

9. Cut hole for air hose and insert air stone and pump set up.

10. Place lid on top of 3.5-gallon bucket and voila! She’s ready to go!

Should work out okay!
