Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

Nice touches for the @ViparSpectra upcoming grow (starts tomorrow!)? I’m also going to try the @Remo Nutrients as well! First try for both. Should be interesting. I’ll post a link here tomorrow when I get going.

You may like @Remo Nutrients a lot Jon! I'm smoking some real tasty bud from it!
They have a tough act to follow, but I have great confidence in them after reading up on the company. Made by growers, for growers, has value to me.

LeiLei is starting to go purple/lavender. Here’s what the bud looks like as advertised by Ethos:

There’s a greener pheno as well, which supposedly looks like this:

Hey @StoneOtter - what’s your deal with using CalMag with the Remo system? In coco every gallon is preceded with a 5ml shot of CalMag, in my case Humboldt’s Secret CalMag plus Iron. It’s 2-0-0. There’s a specific CalMag ingredient with the @Remo Nutrients which is 3-0-0 and would seem to negate the need for the pre-shot. Any suggestions on that?

Today I got the email notification that my refunds had hit my bank account. They have indeed. This is a result of @Prescription Blend fixing my Zon issue out of the goodness of their heart. Basically they got me my double order of their nutes (which was lost and way late), made adjustments to their Zon system, AND refunded me all the money I spent. So they gave me free nutes!

THANK YOU PRESCRIPTION BLEND!!!!

Interesting Jon! I think I'd go with what you're thinking and leave one out and watch.

Final Training

The last piece of Sombrero training, whether it’s dual or quad towers, is something that depends upon the extent to which the plant cooperates with you. Lol. In the case of this plant we have an almost perfect storm.

Plants tend to grow in symmetrical fashion. You see it with every set of leaves that comes out. But it’s not just the leaves growing symmetrically - the side branches do too. So when you pull your branches out to create a ring as I have here, the first node closest to center stem of those branches will grow a side branch. Each one will. But only the oldest two sets generally get long enough to complete the training. In this case that was four branches. Since they’re long enough to join the ring, this is the final piece. You pull those four long enough first side branches branches out to join the ring. This increases your glorious outer ring by four colas! It also has the adjunct benefit of clearing out your middle. Then you just pick off the crap and voila, you have a beautiful and very productive outer ring with the crap that robs energy and size all gone. Sometimes you get it so bare in the middle that you can actually water right down the center stem of the plant, which is an “easier” way to water once the plant is big and you’re no longer worried about building roots.

Now sometimes I elect to keep all that middle stuff. Just depends on what the plant is saying to me about it. In that case, like my Crescendo outdoors, you let it all grow up and you form a whole lower canopy, not just a ring. This plant told me ring. The Crescendo told me canopy. I know that sounds dumb but I’m serious. You gotta read the plant. Unless you’re lucky enough to speak plant. Heh.

This plant here has been ultra cooperative. Here’s the whole girl, and closeups on the lower ring and the middle.

Hi guys -

I started the ViparSpectra grow journal. One plant in the 3x3. If you’re interested, you can check it out here:

Strawberry Haze
Veg

I moved her over to the 3x3 to hang out under the @ViparSpectra KS3000 for a while, until the Humboldt Dream kicks her out. It’s warmer here than in the 5x5 (by design). Same 20/4. So here she is today pushing the 5th node. Given the bushy, compact, and smallish stature of this plant so far, I’m going to wait and top between nodes 5 and 6 and let her keep growing untouched for now.

Bonus: check out how good the plant looks in the light from the KS3000!

At least so far, it shows little of Haze... We'll see if it sativates with growth... Good luck and health.

Outdoor buds seem to always be so wild and unruly. Lol.

The frost is crazy on this one. Like pinkish, sort of lavender, where the sugars start to curl up…the colors the buds are supposed to pick up with the one pheno. I’d love to end up with those purple, red, and magenta buds they advertise.

Well, it is day 49 of flower for the Mandarin Zkittlez and it does say she finishes early outside. 56 days is their low end. So I checked the trichomes.

My understanding and experience is that trichomes and the amber thing can sometimes be less dependable outside as a way to read when to harvest. It’s kind of (for me) an overall assessment including trichomes, feel, look, etc…

So here’s her trichs today. I was reading her as maybe ten days out. This says I may be close. I think. Lol. Lots of white, some clear. Ok then. We aren’t going magenta. Lol.

Tropicanna Banana all lit up in the afternoon!

I know the comparison between your Tropical Banana and my Blue Dream is probably no longer valid due to unforeseen flowering issues (I'm still stymied by your non-auto auto) but I thought I'd throw out an update anyway.

This beautiful young lady has taken a while to get adjusted following flip (didn't show a budlet for a couple of weeks) but ..... she is spectacular!
