Jon's Outdoor Winter Photoperiod Grow

Happy Holidays @Hafta and @Azimuth! So we were talking about the roots and I said I’d see what I could do. So…

I couldn’t get in at all from the top or sides. Tried both first. It’s as if it’s so woven together with roots that it’s one thing. However, I had better luck going in from the bottom middle. Whoever said hardly any tap root below the surface is correct. The roots become fibrous feeder roots very quickly, especially around the edges. I wonder if the density of roots on the edges is due to constantly watering the edges?

Here’s what I have for pictures. Hopefully you can see how far I had to go before I found a “real” part of the tap root, and although it stands out, it’s the deepest root like that I could find. It’s about two or three inches to light at the top of the soil inside that hole.

Hope you enjoyed the day boys!

Strawberry Haze
Veg

Our girl is taking her time in the cold, but doing her thing. It starts back up today and by tomorrow she’ll be nice and toasty. Working on her fourth node now.

Outdoor (cold) Garden

Some plants take to 39 degrees no problem. Others, not so much. Lol.
Poor Laura. She’ll be alright tomorrow when it warms back up.

I know it’s the day after, but a friend just sent me this. My buddy (and fellow grower) Dave got this as a Christmas gift from his Dad. It was so amazing I had to share it. So for anyone who missed it, here’s a special 420 Merry Christmas!

A little stress is probably good for her, but instead of draughting you're 'colding.' :laughtwo:
Lol! It’ll be the subject of white papers and @Emilya Green will have an address link to the skinny on it!

You'll have to start a new thread dedicated to those willing to give it a go like @Krissi Carbone 's draughting thread. Your's will be more of a challenge to gather participants in what with the up front cost of refrigerators large enough to grow in, but certainly doable.

Or just cold basements

I was talking about other people, in Northern climates, like me
I don't worry about enviromental control & all that vpd stuff
I just let them do their thing

I pretty much do too anymore @Joe Brewster. Obviously I have no control outside so I don’t sweat it, and I’ve seen them flourish in such a wide range of conditions now that I sort of am starting to think it’s all just unnecessary worry. Lately I just keep the temp gauge at the level of the highest leaf and try to keep it 85 or less. Other than that I’m running passive. If it gets too hot I flip on the AC unit and adjust temp with the door zipper and how open the door is. As long as my leaf temp stays 85 or less I’m happy.

That said, in early early veg (up until you have two sets of leaves) I do control the environment to the end of keeping the RH and temperature both pretty high, like 80 degrees and 70% RH. After that it’s whatever time. Lmao.
