Raspberry Parfait Strain/Smoke Review (reprinted from Strain Reviews cuz plant from this grow)

I'll try my hand at reviewing the Raspberry Parfait. I am reviewing the plant of this strain that I grew and harvested in early December. I'll start with the facts, including relevant grow facts:

Strain: Raspberry Parfait
Genetics By: Humboldt Seed Company
Parents: Trufula Tree x Shishkaberry
S/I: 80% sativa/20% indica
Dominant Terpenes: Terpinolene and Beta-Myrcene
Grown By: Me
Grow Light Cycle: 10 hours sun/10 hours @MarsHydro FC-E6500 in veg (20/4), 100% outdoors for flower (approx. 12/12)
Pot Size/Soil: 7 gallon @GeoPot, Fox Farms soil blend of Happy Frog 40%/Ocean Forest 40%/perlite #3 20%
Nutes: @GeoFlora Nutrients Veg and Bloom, one application of CalMag plus Iron
Sample Cure: Curing since 12/16, sampled and reviewed today, 1/13
Appearance of Finished Buds: Dark greens, dark hairs more red than orange, purple and light green accents
Density: Very dense, sativa-like buds
Trichomes: Generous frosting outside and all the way through the bud
Smell: Very strong and very distinctively sweet raspberries first, with sour citrus tones as well as a nutty type smell, nutmeg perhaps
Taste: Very similar to the smell, raspberry forward with lots of sweetness and sour citrus on the exhale and a spicy, fruity aftertaste
Buzz: Hits strongly in the head immediately, sweats up the eyelids, and gradually develops into a very focused, very sativa, extremely up buzz that incorporates the body buzz after about 20-30 minutes. The body buzz for me made it down to around the middle of my back in terms of muscle relaxation, and made my upper body above my injury (normal feeling, lol) feel nicely relaxed. But primarily it is a head sativa buzz that lasts about two hours and fades sweetly in a gentle curve.
Smoke: Very smooth, easy, non-coughing smoke that is creamy off-white, medium thick, and allows one to do very large hits if one chooses.
Strength: No way to measure, HSC says it goes to 22%, I estimate this at noticeably higher than that, more like 24-25% - obviously subjective
Medical Benefits: Average for back and muscle pain, but strongly sativa and a significant focus/distraction/up effect that also has a positive pain effect in that it tends to at least help you to forget the nagging type pain and stay focused on whatever. Again, as all reviews, highly subjective.

Impressions: This is fabulous bud. I absolutely love it. It's my go to sativa along with the Ghost Train Haze from what I have now. Great daytime strain. Gets you very high but not overwhelmed, and has the classic sativa effect I love so much. But as great as the buzz and taste are, the star of this show is the terpenes and the smell. It's unmistakably raspberry. Not, "I smell fruit that sort of smells like raspberry," this is hit you in the face raspberry patch smell that will fill the whole room upon leaving the jar open for a few minutes. The terpenes are incredible and began to express themselves very early on. She smelled this raspberry in flower. One of, if not the, frostiest strain in flower that I have grown by a significant margin. If I could get a better shot of the trichomes, they are long, and coated very thoroughly throughout. The raspberry odor is strongly accentuated on the sweet/sour citrus end as well, and just opening the jar will make you smile. Worthy of note is that HSC claims this is one of the longest lasting terpenes in curing that they produce. Growing it was a breeze. I let it go with zero training and she just grew. I did not defol as much as a leaf. Also worthy of note is the inclusion of several sponsors in this grow, I believe I tagged the ones involved (thank you sponsors!). It was my first run with Geoflora Nutrients and my first photo plant ever flowered completely outdoors. The nutes performed spectacularly, needed no additives of any kind, and I followed their feed suggestions almost to the letter, the only change being I fed every 13 days instead of 14. I will use Geoflora again and again, they couldn't be easier or more effective. This plant never developed one blemish or burnt tip really. Finally very worthy of note is that at least this outdoor plant was 100% useable buds that all made the jar. Every single bud on the plant was worth trimming and was trimmed and jarred. ZERO flarf. Not sure if that would happen indoors, but outdoors it was a 100-percenter. I took around 5 ounces of buds exactly like the ones in the pictures from this plant, with only some sugar leaf for the flarf Trim Bin. Astounding strain on many levels. Also flowered rather quickly, she was in flower a total of less than 60 days at harvest. I will definitely grow this strain again, and soon. I'm in love. This one, to me, is special. I would highly highly recommend it to any sativa fan, and any raspberry fan (lol). If you like fruity, sweet and sour sativas, this one may be for you.

I included some pictures to show you precisely what I reviewed - a bonus when one reviews bud one grew themselves. Enjoy. And thanks for reading the review. Hope you enjoyed it.

This first picture is the plant when she was getting it on in flower, but had not yet started tossing out colors. But she sure as hell was tossing the frost.

This one is a mature bud very close to harvest.

This is the bud I smoked for this review.

Hey @Bill284 - it's 1:05 pm here. Girls have been awake since 6:30 am. More than halfway through their day. And guess what? They do NOT need to be watered. All three of them are wet still from yesterday all the way to the top, even the surface is not yet dry as in every day until now. This is the first time in the life of all three of these plants that this has been the case.

So are they finally slowing down on their water consumption? Based on what you see in the cola shots today, doesn't that seem logical? Does to me, looking for confirmation?

Thanks!
Good morning Jon hope your having a good day.
More than likely they have gradually have been eating less you just noticed yesterday.
I hope you did feed them something.
And you should be feeding in the morning, right thats what you have been doing.
Within an hour of lights on?
Last couple weeks they slow down on the diet.
That's why I cut back ppm,s and cut out nitrogen, except in micro there is a little in the micro for nutrient uptake.
What's your ppm,s again?

Morning Bill. Yes, I feed first thing in the morning almost all the time. Once in a while it's been around noon, but they're fine. And you are probably right I just noticed it now. I'm about to mix this morning. And nope. They got nothing yesterday. They'll be okay, Bill. I promise.

Veg Day 55

Five days from the flip and this girl is humming right along for me. She is developing a very sweet canopy. Not at all bunched all together like the last tent harvest plants. And check it out @StoneOtter, remember we were talking about plants cooperating? This is two days growth since I "set" her last, and look how consistently she's growing up! So far, nobody is claiming dominance, and if I can keep it this way I'll be a happy camper. That's what I call cooperation. If only my dog minded as well. I'm 90% of the way there. I believe she is just about the right size now that between the next five days of growth, then the stretch, she will fill this entire 3x3 in a nice, even canopy. I just have to train her flat through the stretch, which I have learned requires daily maintenance. I won't do any more to multiply bud sites, there are plenty, and there are also four or five branches that are topped on the ends with double shoots coming out now. It's a 35-40 bud (ish) plant I think. More importantly, there will be space between all the buds, I'll be making sure of that right before I flip her when I decide what stays and what goes in the canopy. The lower shoots I was considering removing are going to stay. They have done some catch up in the last 48 hours and are close enough that the stretch ought to allow them to make the team, if they don't catch up in the next five days.

I also did some undercarriage maintenance today, removing growth like we do. There will be more work to be done there but I prefer to spread it out rather than do it all at once.

So let's go to the pictures:

This first picture is the overhead view of the canopy today.

And here's her canopy from the side. Too bad pics like this never seem to win POTM, I love these sort of shots.

A bit of undercarriage maintenance here:

This is what I took from underneath. I took nothing else for now.

EDIT: I forgot, also did some infrastructure maintenance today. Had to get the fan game in place for flower.

So this is the Little Boy oscillating fan, which I have blowing gently on low right across the top of the canopy. The bricks are not only very solid, take up hardly any space, and @Bill284, are fireproof, lol, they also give me the latitude to lower the fan a brick width at a time if I want the air to hit lower on the canopy, or raise it by adding a brick. I have found it to be very effective as a base.

And for the air blowing up through the canopy from underneath, we presently are using one of these, we have two others to add as the canopy grows out.

Damn Hulkberry took my short term memory today. Lol.

Blueberry Trichome Check
Flower Day 43

The Blueberry is looking close enough to done that it was time to take a closer peek at her today. I knew she wasn't there yet, and this is approximately what I expected to see. She's got a ways to go yet. Better not be too long, all her upper buds, both the three main colas and the next tier of buds down the plant are falling down from their own weight. The colas are now down about four inches from where they were. If it weren't for the damn Dos Si Dos cola I could lower the light, since the Strawberry Lemonade has also come down from weight. The way the DSD is supported, it won't matter how heavy she gets, that cola is stuck in stone where it is. Oh well.

Here's three trichome shots of the Blueberry today. One's even all the way in focus. Lol. The handheld microscope camera has it's advantages, but it is also difficult to hold steady enough to get a truly focused picture. A rather large disadvantage I have found. Sometimes I use a bucket or something to sit it on to steady it, but that requires a bud in the right spot which is rare. Lol. Anyway, enjoy.

Couldn't you raise the blueberry on an upside down pot or something? Lower the light or raise the plant. Should be same same.

Hey @Azimuth, thanks. Yes, I considered that. If you could see this in person you could clearly see the impossibility of that idea. They were raised to finish outdoors, so they were grown pretty much untouched except for topping the Blueberry. These plants are seven feet tall. Way over my head in the chair. And all their lower branch buds, which is tons, are carefully positioned so as to get light to all, which took a lot of finagling. If I move any of the plants I upset the entire apple cart, not to mention they're huge and heavy. Also don't forget I stupidly grew them in 3s. This makes the base far less stable compared to the volume of plant above than it should be. So yes, thanks, I considered it and ruled it out as too much of a risk. It won't make THAT much difference anyway.

Ah, makes sense. I figured you must have thought about it.

7 feet tall?!??! Holy crap! I can only dream... :)

That's with the pot, but still....yeah, I would never grow them this way for a tent grow. That's why I had to tie the crap out of those colas to get them even down enough to deal. Lol. It's actually going to work out better, cuz the farther they fall, the more even the "canopy" of the main bud growth gets. Lmao.

Potential New Phone/Camera
Test Picture #1

Hey guys, I'd love to see if you guys agree with me that this is a significant upgrade in picture quality. I took seven or eight pictures with this phone I'm considering, and this is the one that came out the best. Had I been steadier and not rushed by the phone's owner I could have gotten more, but it will suffice. I think this picture is enough to see the upgrade from my usual stuff when I happen to get a focused shot.

This is a Blueberry bud. What do you guys think? Better, right?

BB bud new phone pic 1.jpg

Looks damn fine to me!
Thanks Rex, and even that one isn't entirely in focus. But I notice things like how it handles the light in the background around the edges of the bud, and how it deals with too much light on top of the bud. Seems it's really hard to get a closeup bud shot from any bud getting light without getting that overexposure on the white parts on the top of the bud. Is for me anyway with my camera. This one did much better on both of those counts, and the editing program is superior too - same on as on the 11s, but upgraded. This was a 13 camera shot.
