Day 38

First day we have what I believe should be about the finished “canopy” height. It’s a lot easier with two of the same pheno that flower at the same time. Lol. The canopy is something that has always made sense to me. I like consistency to my buds.

IMG_7284.jpeg

Edit: I also can report that the bush drinks almost twice as fast as the sativa. Gotta be related to the difference in leaf mass in large part. So far I’ve taken nary a leaf and have not lost one yet.

Enjoying your grow @Jon !

Good to have you back at it !

Now wouldn't it be nice if the breeder could offer the tall or short pheno's separately 😆

Would be so handy, growing four different strains at a time it would be nice to not have to deal with that one Over achiever, he, he.....

I think it is a toss up right now which one will produce more, if that matters :yahoo:

They are both enjoying their best life

Cheers

Day 23
First Training Steps

Today I did the first training on the taller plant. I’m going with an 8-cola ring. I’m using the side branching from the first three nodes plus the pair from the topping at node four. The tiny side “branches” (lol) coming out of the single leaf node will be chopped. My first step is to determine the height I believe they will catch up at so that they’re all on the same level. Ideally it’s a ring as close as possible to the height of the top of the stem. The two shoots from the topping will go almost horizontal in a few days, and I’ll keep them that way until the other six colas match that height. In a perfect world this all happens before the stretch. Easy with photos. Autos, not so much. The lower branches, if left alone will rarely if ever catch up before flower hits. You gotta help them out.

So here’s a few shots of the plant from various angles. The third picture is the closest to the actual color.

To get this, I first raised the lowest node branches as high as I could.

Then I pulled the third node down.

The second node I left alone, which gives us this:

The tops I left to get longer a few days.

Which gives us close to a six cola ring with just that simple effort:

Now we wait.

This is very helpful. Thanks! 🙏

A word or two on growing inside your house as I am here and many do. Regarding environmental control, and specifically controlling RH.

In my experience having done this quite a few times, the average house environment is perfect for about mid veg to early flower. It hovers somewhere in the neighborhood of the mid 70s temp and around 50% RH. That RH, to me, is too low for early veg and too high for most of flower. So how does one maintain the preferred RH? In my world that looks approximately like this:

Seedling/early veg: 70%
Mid veg to flower: descending to around 50%
Flower: 30-40%

The way I do it is to think of the overall space the grow space is in as a system. So I’m in my “living room” off my bedroom. There is one window accessible to open and a window AC unit in another. If I want it cooler it’s easy. Either open the window some or engage the AC unit. If it’s the AC unit it will also affect the humidity. There are times when I have the window opened a couple inches and the AC.engaged on low. Just depends on the goal, but the point is that there are usually more elements to control environment with at your disposal than you may initially think. By experimenting and using them in concert you can usually dial in pretty much what you want. FWIW.

Bonus photo: Yoda got the new A3i Pro from Fohse, one of the world’s baddest lights. He’s using it in a huge indoor space for four mother plants. You light junkies will dig this: the thing looks like something out of Star Wars. This is a $2000 LED. Must be nice.

Edit: each little round dot on the light is a lens with 9 LEDs inside it.

Also had to drop the bush a touch today. Trying to keep these girls at no more than 1100 - 1150 ppfd this time. She was inching up too high a bit.

That is one crazy looking light Jon, plants are looking good, so you say you had to drop the PPFD to 1100-1150 because a higher PPFD was making her stretch? the reason i ask is my one auto the PPE at the tallest cola was measured yesterday at 40'' and tonight its 42.5'' & PPFD is 875 & average PPFD for the tent is 750-780, this sucker just don't want to stop going up, any insight?

Hey con - no, not because they were stretching just because I decided I wanted to try it at around 1150 max this time. Your plants look amazing, I wouldn’t change a thing. Be psyched for a big stretch. You’ll yield better.

They look great Jon! Man the light of Yoda's is something! You maybe should contact them and tell them who you are! A super talented grower that can journal the heck out of a grow! We'd love to watch you grow with one!
You’ll see it in the spring. I got the Fohse Pisces 900 watt for the 9’ 5x5. Heh.

I say that cuz in my experience, more stretch = more nodes = more bud sites = more yield.

Thanks Jon makes sense this plant has grew another 1,75'' so far today & still has 7hrs till lights out, the breeder says 80 days to finish, i think this one will be well past that

Yeah you can pretty much throw away anything the breeder says regarding time. It’s a crapshoot with autos. I find they are rarely correct and most of the time they go longer. That’s me. Others may feel differently.

yeah i find that too, i've had a few that where pretty close but most usually are longer by a few weeks if not more, i now think the plants that keep going up will stop when they get to the max PPFD they can handle i'm not seeing any curling leaves yet or bleaching

Yeah even post stretch it seems autos never really stop growing. They’re always inching up. I lowered mine even more today for that exact reason. They’re sitting at around 1000 ppfd now. Hoping that’s it for the adjustments. Here they are now. Water day for the bush, she’s still coming back up. I arrowed the cola I’m the most excited about. lol.

Nice, looks like she's going to be thick from top to bottom

Day 47

Focus: Taller plant

This one’s a sweetheart. This is how they usually grow. You get a little bummed that your nodal spacing is so long between, and then you see her start to stack, and you’re like, damn. Least for me. Lol. I love this strain so much. She’s pretty much firing on all cylinders at this point. Very happy plant.
