Jon's Dedicated Fruity Pebble Cookies Grow Plus The Mystery Plant

Well, the whole nail or screw in the trunk thing, but you're right, supercropping is the obvious next step. Let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Yay! I got the most obvious thing right!!

I get various mailings and such from some different sources, and one of them sent me an ad today for a product I have never seen. Anyone familiar with this?

This is a Botrytis test kit. Here's what they claim:

With the CRD Botrytis test kit, you can detect bud rot up to two weeks before an infection shows! No shipping product and no need to wait for lab results. Our test kit has everything you need to get results on site and in as little as 10 minutes. Test clones, seedlings, in veg, flower or even in your dry room. We can help you protect your crop and reputation from bud rot.

Apparently it's as easy as this:

I can see this coming in handy if it works well. Thought it was interesting.

Interesting. @Bode and @StoneOtter were both discussing bud rot on their outdoor grows last season. I wonder how accurate it is?

I was especially intrigued by the claim of detecting it up to two weeks early.

Mystery Plant Training Update
Veg

One thing I love about this plant is that I don't have to look back however many pages to find my last post so I can do the math and see how old she is. Lmao. She's however old she is.

So I'm thinking, what haven't we done to this girl yet?

Duh. SUPERCROPPING. Of course! And why not? So I went ahead and supercropped the top, and a few mid level side branches. Let's see how that goes over the next week or so. Heh. Also pulled the branches in the bottom ring out to however much they'd grown since they were anchored.

Here's the work and what we're looking at at the end. The shots are an overhead view and side view of the top of the plant post supercropping, and then the whole girl. Last picture is an example of the new growth. The light yellow is the light and camera angle, it's all green. But note what we're getting now for new leaves. The overall "cola" top to the branches are beginning to look closer to normal. We're still getting nothing but three pointed leaves, however. I find that yet another excessively odd thing about this plant.

Input appreciated!

Did you hook any jewelry onto the supercrop, if not she’ll be back up in an hour !

Yeah, I more or less lost half of my outdoor crop, so if this is legit it may be worth my time and money.

Looks like the kit cost could be higher than a preventive maintenance regimen.

Products - Cubed Labs (not sure if they are the same test)

Not yet, I wanted to see if bending the same spot over a few days will do it first. It's in the bank though, thanks.

I see they can detect it, that's good. For me I can tell you right now my grow this coming summer has botrytis. That's 6-7 months away! What I need is something to kill it without killing me or the flavor of the bud. Maybe there's an application for it for someone. It's a good start for me.

Random Porn Friday!

Here we go.

Today I lead with a picture of my baby, Molly.

From our continuing black and white series, this is a Strawberry Lemonade bud in late flower.

This here is a Blueberry bud. The Blueberry has no down side. Truly worthy of it's reputation.

Then we switch gears to a pretty cool trichome shot from a Dos Si Dos bud.

This is a branch of the Strawberry Lemonade in late flower.

Switching gears again, this is a picture of the Hulkberry tossing her leaf colors in late flower.

And this last picture is a real throwback shot of my first try at autos, my second grow and in my first grow journal here at 420. This was 9 autos in 3s in my 5x5 under the blurples - I had not yet gotten my good light. The 3 rows of plants, L to R, is: Left: 3 Cinderella Jacks, Middle: 3 Pineapple Express, Right: 2 Lemon Skunk and 1 Gorilla Zkittlez.

Enjoy the weekend, and go 'Nova!

Damn he's pretty Bill. Yeah, looks like their furs are not dissimilar. I gotta brush Molly about every other day or else she quickly forms knots that have to then be cut out. She looked great after her first groomer visit. Make sure to post an after shot later?!

Morning Jon! I also love the pics! Hope things are going well for you, did I just read that you topped an auto? You're always doing something that interests me. When did your purple plants start showing color? Check out this crazy lsd-25 from FBA, it only vegged 21 days and now it's 10 days into flower.
20220331_154037[1].jpg
Temps have been no colder than 70 at night, but the purple started early. In the FBA catalog the buds are all purple like yours above. The original LSD I grew from Barney's Farm had no purple.

FYI I think I hurt my yield by not keeping them in the dixie cups longer, all 3 are smallish and the Cream Cookie from FBA is ridiculous, it's flowering and I'd guess about 5" tall. I hope this works, I always have problems posting pics. Have a great day!

Take your thoughts on light levels for your new plants. I've never given that a second thought. But I think I'm going to start paying attention to what my levels are and see what I learn in the process.
Hey @Jon,

True to my word, I'm wanting to learn a bit more on light levels and such. I've got a plant that's getting promoted to my new flower box later today and for the first time ever I have some flexibility in terms of adusting light levels.

Do you have any thoughts on recommended light levels in flower, or anything you could point me to to read?

Hi @Azimuth - thanks for the question, I'm no expert but I'll do the best I can.

I tend to bring my light level up gradually from the very beginning. Here's a very rough reference point that I sort of use:

Seedlings - 300-500 ppfd
Early Veg - up to 700 ppfd
Late Veg - up to 900 ppfd
Early Flower - up to 1100 ppfd
Late Flower - as high as the plants can take without showing signs of burning from too much light - cap at 1400 because I don't run CO2.

Those are approximations, I will raise or lower any of those depending on how the plant responds. If I see any of this:

- curling on the leaf tips up or down (in veg they tend to shy away from too much light and curl down, in flower they seem to curl up and lose their viability faster)
- taco-ing of leaves
- yellowing tips and I've ruled out nute burn
- stalled growth when everything seems to be perfect that doesn't make sense
- overall yellowing of upper leaves
- red spotting on leaves - the tiny red spots ringed in copper or something like that
- dark green leaves starting to pale on lower part of plant

those tell me that I'm hitting them with too much light. I adjust accordingly. When I check the plants for signs I almost always measure with the Phototone app to make sure. Before and after numbers so I have the reference points in my head-ish. A note on that app: there are some "full spectrum" LEDs that will not give you accurate readings on the full spectrum setting. Some LEDs, despite being full spectrum, hit the app as more Red/Blue than full spectrum. My good light in the big tent, with it's massive red and blue spectral peaks and less of the mid yellows and greens, is such a light. On full spectrum right now it says my plants are getting 1500 ppfd. Well obviously that's incorrect or they'd be fried. Yes, they would be at 1500 par in veg under LED in a tent. On Red/Blue I get accurate readings with it, and they register at around 650 at the moment at the tops of the Fruity Pebble Cookies. This is after I lowered from around 800. I was seeing if I could push it, and they said too much and showed me a few yellow tips and leaves starting to curl down on the tips and I cut it back. They responded immediately with better prayer angle, increased rate of water uptake (growth), and no more yellow or curling tips.

So I guess I just read the plants and use the above as rough guides or reference points. Unfortunately I don't have a great source material to direct you towards, as I've read so much about light I don't know which way is up. I have a webinar coming up to watch on April 6th from Maximum Yield that's a couple industry experts talking about maxing yields with high intensity LEDs. I get my info from everywhere, including from people here, and put it all together, mash it around, and come up with what works for me.

You might check in on what @Emilya has going on with the red light in her grows now. It's very interesting and an awesome and useful experiment in increasing trichome production with red shifts and such.

Can you show a picture of what your plants that you refer to as ready to move to flower look like right now? If so I can offer my two cents on a good starting point. Also, what is your light and space size. Those three things I need to know to give you a recommendation.

Does any of that help you?
