Re: JimmyCrickets 1st Indoor Grow - Chemdog D & White Rhino x Blackberry
my 400 watt hps is dual spec, i thought it was a poor choice its the sunmaster 400 watt dual spec hps, but i found it it wasnt the light giving me poor results it was the 24-0 light schedule, when i gave my plants a good night period each day the plants grew like crazy and now im running out of space and im in flower, my plants have never grown this quick, my dwc hempie is getting on 2ft now and its only a week or just over into flower, i normally have to veg much longer before plants get this big,
as for the dual spec been better well the sun gives out all the whole spectrum, in the fall it gives out more of the red spectrum due to the sun been lower in the horizon but the sun still puts out the whole spectrum including uv, so the only thing missing is uv, i dont think the dual spec puts out uv, but it sounds like the dual spec is a good option as its best of both worlds,
now when i asked about height of plant vs size of light i was meaning i have 400 watt light, my room is floor to ceiling so around 7.5 to 8ft, but if i have a 6ft plant and the hps is above the plant then anything around 3ft and below will be really struggling for light with just 1 400 watt hps, at the minute i can fit 9 plants in my grow space, but if could cut the number down to 4 or even just 2 plants then what kind of size would i be able to grow under 400watt hps without having tiny buds lower down the plant or would something like a 3ft by 3ft scrog work.
the only reason i have not tried a 1 or 2 plant scrog yet is because ive been reading that a plant can only produce so much bud per cola, so a plant with 1 cola will produce 1 big bud, a plant with 2 tops/ colas will produce 2 big buds but not as much as the 1 big bud, so a plant can only be topped so many times as their is a limit, i cant remember the exact term but their is a limit depending on strain, so for instance a plant with 6 main tops wont produce anymore than a plant with 1 main cola given the same amount of growth.
so a scrog with 20 or 30 main colas will produce fat short buds, but this does not always mean increased yield, im just unsure but i guess if i dont give it a try ill never know, ive seen some amazing scrogs that produce huge buds. then ive seen other scrogs that produce lots of small buds,
so many choices, i might grow out everything i got growing now and start again and try something new,
its the only way im going to find out what works and what dont, lets go down the 3ft by 3ft scrog, might do it with 2 plants,
the dual spec bulb works great for both veg and for flower, i nearly changed to buying a hps and mh bulb but i decided to try a different lighting schedule so went with 17-7 for veg this time round and im so damn glad i did, im more than happy with the results from the dual spec bulb, produces nice buds, i think plants need both spectrums during growth, outdoors they get the full spectrum and some outdoor growers flower during the middle of summer by taking their plants indoors, so its not just the red spectrum needed for flower as the buds produced in the middle of summer outdoors are often bigger due to the suns intensity,
so ill stick with the dual spec bulb, saves having to swap bulbs over when i flip to flower,
at least for now it seems to be working well
