James' Soil - Multi-Strain 2012 Grow

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

I'll start off with Aunt Bernice this time.

She has still outgrown the rest (although celeste is catching up) even after the 5 toppings.
There have been some yellowing lower leaves though that seems to be a common problem with my girls.

Almost reminds me of a beach ball...

I ended up replanting AB into one of my 3 gallon grow bags and taped all but 3 of the drain holes, filled the bottom with perlite and the rest with 70% coco, 15% worm castings, 15% perlite, and I also put in 1 TBS of lime per gallon of soil mix.

I don't think that I will be having any drainage issues with this one, all 3 hole were like this after 2 quarts:

Here is Barbie, she also has a few yellowed lower leaves but otherwise is healthy.

A few of her side branches have started producing 9 fingered leaves now, some others have 8's.

I also replanted this one out of the 1 gallon hempy and into the 3 gallon grow bag hempy. I was getting terrible drainage with the 1 gallon and the roots have much more freedom now (plus it evened up the height a little being in a taller bag.

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

This one is Misty (formerly fugly) that has started to grow on me some. She doesn't look like how I wanted her to but she isn't as bad as I thought she would be either. She has at least 2 tops that should be nice, maybe 3.

This branch stuck out at a weird angle and I had a dead spot in the middle so I super-cropped it over

This to was put into a 3 gallon grow bag hempy, the one gallon sunny D orange juice container was the worst one I have tried yet, thought it would be nice to have a handle but even that didn't work right.

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

Alright, next up is Celeste.

I replanted her into a 2 gallon smart pot with the hempy setup, even though it doesn't really hold water at the bottom. since all of the replants, this one has shown the most new growth. I also like the smart pot best and may be using them next round. However, if I do I am going to try to find a tray to put in the bottom so it holds at least an inch or two of water.

This one has the yellowed lower leaves as well.

I had an empty spot and a few branches that were hidden so I cropped them over. Super-cropping has turned out to be a pretty good method for these side branches to get them where you want!

Here is right after the SC's

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

I could imagine the yellowing is because they are root bound, or pot bound. those air pots are great! but those plants are getting pretty large my friend. I would transfer to much larger pots :Namaste:

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

A small dose of Cal-Mag may help your yellowing leaves.

I'm telling you now...you have TOPing and FIMing and LST down pat. Your are creating some beautiful plants.

In doing this hempy style I thought they should be alright in 3 gallon bags (and a 2 gallon smart pot). Although my cheese clone has not grown as much as it used to and that's in a 1 gallon sports drink bottle. It has been doing fine until the last time I had her out I found a couple of those yellowed lower leaves with browning spots. With just having replanted them not long ago I am not too keen on the idea, but if it's what needs to be done then it's what needs to be done I guess! Another symptom I found was that they are not drying out to quickly, could that also be a sign of root bound? It seemed like they may be feeding from the lower leaves instead of the roots/dirt.

Here is how the leaves have looked:

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

good looking plants and you did a good job on the supper-cropping...it works don't it ???? :bravo:

It does indeed... shoulda listened. Still wasn't sure about main branches, but now that I see how Celeste is growing I may have a couple that will need it!!:thankyou:

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

Yeah I had a similar issue with some yellowing of the undergrowth from some plants getting rootbound before! You are using coco correct? That could be it, I'm getting some yellowing as well with the BPN farmers pride and my coco. If that is the case, we could try increasing the grow dosage.

It seems to me that the root issue of the yellowing would be lack of nitrogen (coco doesn't have zip) but about 15% of my mixture is worm castings which is 1-0-0, not much N but I was hoping it would be enough. I tried upping the dosage a little a while back and got a bunch of burned tips. I don't see anything on the new growth so maybe it just wasn't ready for the extra nutrients before (too soon after a replanting) I think I'll start with OMM's advise and go from there. I should mention that I have checked the Ph on all of them and the run-off for 3 of them was ~6.5, one was ~6.2/3 and another one was ~6.7..

I will have to pick some up some cal-mag as soon as I can afford to. I have been wanting to add that to my grow arsenal for a while and I suppose now I have a reason!! If some extra cal-mag doesn't work then I may try getting some 4 or 5 gallon smart pots. I should be able to just set the grow bags in and cut them away, nice and easy replant without much trauma.

:thankyou: for your very kind words, that means a lot coming from you. Thank you for all of your help as well!! +REPs to you buddy.

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

This is the cheese clone I got a couple weeks back, I have had to top it twice to keep the height with the others and its starting to have a bushier appearance now. She also now has 5 main tops going up instead of only 2 or 3.

Here's the two toppings:
cheese_toppings.jpg

Here is how the roots look 5 days later, not sure it's looking bound yet. I would imagine the rest would be fine in 3 gallon containers, this one is only 1 gallon. Although, I'm sure there are way more roots to the others as they are from seed not clone. Still the roots have started growing above the soil now and on the right side they have started growing like crazy into the perlite reservoir. The only concerns I have are the lower leaves and the roots are no longer bright white but kinda browning a little. I thought this may be from too much water so I have poured out all the excess and have been letting it dry out the last couple days. Hope this helps her.

Here is the clone I took off of Celeste this is 6 days after being put into the perlite/water mix in a solo cup.

I also received a gift of 12 seeds, they are a combo of... Chemdog!!!
I have only had chemdog once, it was organic and one of the best tasting/effecting meds I've ever had. Also just read this, does anyone know the accuracy of it, especially the last couple sentences?

"Chemdog IS a strain grown in Montana, sold in Colorado for years, purchased by a person in Massachusetts, during the time when the chemdog was in Mass, the chemdog in Montana and CO stopped flowing due to leo and was left alone with the "Chemdog" (person) in Mass, There were 12 original beans, two originals males. The first female became Chemdog '91, there were chemA and chemB phenos and then in 2000 chem sister and Chem D were grown out and loved by many, The leftover seeds were brought back to CO to be grown out and now account for four more phenotypes. There are also many other hybrids including Geisel, Snodog, bubblechem among others. The SOURDIESEL is actually a sensi seeds 1986 Super Skunk grown out in VA for a while, brought to Mass. and a herm flowered this skunk and these accidental seeds were grown out in Albany and NYC and renamed the SourDiesel. (ps- Diesel is 91 Chemdog just renamed) Og Kush is Chemdog renamed when it made its way to the west coast."

AND... if that is correct the rest are west coast chemdog (OG kush). Not too sure which is which but if that is true then I guess it really doesn't matter. lol. I put 4 of the new beans in a bottle of water on top of the fridge. Only one has started popping a root out and its going on 3 days. Kinda not liking how long it is taking with these.
BEANS1.jpg

I am hoping to grow out a couple of these seeds and a few clones, then throw them into flower a couple weeks apart. I'm pretty much just winging the timing right now and I'll just be playing it by ear as to when I will flower them. I may also try to make a couple mothers, need to find the room to do that first though.

I also finally got around to remote locating my light to make adjustments much easier and to avoid 20 LBs falling on my girls. It freed up a lot of headroom to!!

Re: James' BPN Farmer's Pride Soil, Multi-strain 2012 Grow

Miwa-

I just kept the water level at about half way. I just added I would guesstimate about 30 ml of water a day, not much, maybe not even that much. I have 2 more going like this now but it has been 4 days and no sign of roots. That celeste clone must have been a fluke. I like your cloner the best... going to have to make one of those one of these days!! That thing is pretty awesome!!:thumb:
