Nice job with that topping ITS. Looks perfect! Happy Saturday! Cheers, LG
Thanks LadyG! It's been a busy Saturday so I'm getting here late. My son's HS baseball tryouts were this morning (he did pretty well!) and this is the first time the school has a team so it would be great if he made it. We find out about second round on Friday. I transplanted Gold Leaf today, made a Ca supplement from eggshells, ran my topical oil through another round to make it stronger, got a headache, took a nap, and finally here I am.
If y'all promise
not to "Reply With Quote" I'll put it all in one huge post, okay?
First up, Gold Leaf up-pot! Not too big, not too small, let's see how it looks:
Here's the root ball...looks about time:
Happily moved in:
Moving on, my wife made scrambled cheese eggs for her yoga crew this morning (and me
and our dog of course), so I had 9 eggshells to work with for the Ca for the AK. I washed them first with soapy water inside and out, put them in a baking tray, and dried them in the oven for about 30 minutes at 180º F.
Then I broke them into little pieces and put them in a sauce pan. I was about to use a frying pan but then realized all of our frying pans are teflon, and given that there was a lot of heat and very little to absorb it, I thought better of that. Stainless steel:
This part took a while and was very smelly. I cooked them over varying sized flames depending on how fast the whole thing was going and stirred them as they browned. I wanted them all as dark as possible.
Into the grinder they went:
And then into a mason jar:
I ended up with about 1½ tablespoons, to which I added 9 tablespoons of white vinegar. I can't find a ratio for this anywhere on the web, so if anyone has any hints here, please let me know. 9 tbs seemed right for no reason at all:
It bubbled for a while, and when it stopped, I screwed on the lid.
I shake it ever time I walk by, and when I burp it it stinks! It's supposed to ferment for 2 weeks or something but I don't have that long. We'll see.
Okay, on to the oil! If y'all remember, I had made topical oil a while back in a crock pot. It turns out, after calculating the strength, that it was on the weak side at under 7mg THC/ml oil. I wanted to be well over 10mg so I decided to run it through again.
OldBear created a great oil-strength spreadsheet and posted it in the Oil Study Hall thread and gave me some advice on how to calc a re-run of the oil. Using his numbers I needed about 45 grams of decarbed buds for my 18 ounces of oil. And now that I had a Magical Butter machine (thanks for your votes!), I decided to try it out. I must say that making this would be oil would be incredibly expensive if I didn't grow my own, as that would be like $500 worth or something. I used almost all of Blueberry 4 for this.
Here's my decarbed bud which lost about 3 grams in the decarb process (240ºF for 1:20 which includes 20 minutes of getting the buds to temp):
I poured the oil in first, but probably should have done it the other way. So I mixed it all up before I put the lid on:
4 hours at 160ºF:
4 hours later I was up from my nap (I wasn't asleep the whole time!) and here's what I saw when I opened the lid:
I poured it through the included straining bag (190 screen mesh) and squeezed out what I could with the big green heat-resistant glove. Then I put the mash into the potato ricer to get out a little more:
I put some of the mash in capsules which my wife said she might consider taking. I said I didn't think they'd be very strong given how little oil would be in that small amount. We'll see:
I started with 18 ounces of oil and got back about 14, so there's 4 ounces in the mash. Eventually she may make brownies with all of it. I hope it's not too gritty and the chocolate covers the flavor
.
So that was my day...how was yours?
