InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

We called them "shadow kids" but that's the name they gave themselves they ate lunch in This weird shadowy corridor....

And their names were Harris and Klebold...

I hate the Miracle Grow soil the Gold Leaf is in. Can I transplant it yet?

Hey Shed? Is that used soil and is that a nail in the soil? :hmmmm:
And is that the plant pictured below? Did you pull it out of its pot to check for roots? GAAAAAAH! Are you going to pester another one to death? Put the plant down and step away slowly. You'll know that it's time to transplant when roots are busting out of the drain holes in the pot.

The nail is in there so that when the roots get down to the bottom there won't be an iron deficiency, duh. Don't you hydro growers know anything?

The pots and the soil came from the clone guy. I did not inspect each pot before I received it, but it does tell you something about the quality of the soil!

Ok, so no more peeking at the roots. Next time I'm going double cups so I can peek at the roots like Rider the professional root-peeker. ;)

Wednesday update:
RH in Los Angeles is very low these days (evidenced by the fires) but the Gold Leaf seems to be doing ok. I'm checking the soil (from the top) to make sure it doesn't dry out because of the low RH as well as the heat mat. I've put the LED desk lamp inside the box to make sure the lower leaves get light as there is very little penetration through the lid.

The lid stays on to keep the box warmer than the room (which never warms up much), but it needs to be offset as the leaves are starting to outgrow the height.

That's it for the day. Check out my LED question in my 2nd auto grow if you don't mind and offer up your thoughts there. Thanks!

Friday and I'm off work because my vacation time is use it or lose it!

One quick pic to prove the Gold Leaf is alive. I'm giving it a taste of fresh air and indirect sunlight this morning. Just a bit so I don't kill it :).

It's getting close to time to top the AK-47 as it's growing well. I'll post a pic tomorrow and y'all can tell me what to cut!

For the record, I mixed up a gallon of clone nutes which I'm sure someone will tell me is no good for clones and I should be using plain distilled water still. I'll be using this next time I water either the GL or the AK:

Into 1 gallon standing filtered tap water at 170 PPM:

1 ml cal/mag+
¼ tsp Grow Big
1/8 tsp Great White

pH to 6.7
Nutes @ 200 PPM.

Fire away...I can take it :).

I must, I can't hold back....

I think you're going to NAIL this clone ITS, I just know it... boo, I know had to.

Also, may I ask why are you feeding your clone with nutes if the roots haven't established themselves yet? I'm just curious to learn?
Are you using something that starts roots, and/or improves roots? I love learning this stuff.

That sarcasm is palpable here, I love it!

Feeding a very small amount of nutrients keeps the clone from yellowing off when it's putting its roots in. And once roots do appear the clone will start growing in the cloner. It'll keep it healthier and it will establish faster after being transplanted. Just a touch though. Too much will kill them

Har, I've already nailed it :). This GL clone has some roots and I'd tell you how many but I'm not allowed to check any more. 420d recommended (and Rooster agrees) that some low concentration of nutes at this point would be helpful.

The soil on the GL is drying pretty quickly given the 25% RH here and the mat keeping the soil in the high 70° range, so I drizzled water in from the top and bottom. Probably about 25 ml just to keep it moist enough for the roots to stay hydrated. The leaves were looking kinda dry so I sprayed the inside of the box and the lid and I've got the RH up to 72%. I know it will be 30% in the morning but I'm doing what I can :).

Ahhh, grasshopper, it pleases me that you are on the path of self-control and patience. The roots, with patience, will come to you.

When you see the first root poking out of the drainage holes you might think it is time. It's not. The root will air prune while others are still growing. When you have several roots reaching out of the drainage holes, then it's time to consider transplanting.

Sunday morning all and I still don't have a lot of faith in this Gold Leaf clone. I'm leaving it alone except for keeping the soil from drying out (which can't be a good thing this early) but unless there is lots going on inside the pot that isn't poking out of the holes yet, the leaves don't look happy with the really low humidity. Should I close up the box again to keep the RH higher while it grows roots?

On the other hand, here is the AK-47 clone, growing like a weed. Time to top again yet?

I hope everyone has a great Sunday!
