Beautiful plants and nice towel wrapping work Shedster. CL.I figure they just like the smell!
LOL I knew you were kidding, but I was wondering why you came up with the idea.
Why thanks GDB!
Thanks to you too rob.
Yah do that for better feedback from the pros. Thanks sb!
Thanks for stopping by Braddah!
IKR?
Thank you kindly Boo, and it wasn't easy getting them to this point.
While I have you all, I wrapped Grandpa's Moonshine in a wet towel today and will continue that for the rest of the grow.
Presenting the towel twins:
Fraternal obviously.
Oh, the cloth pot is sitting on an upside down saucer to keep it out of the water. Only the towel is in it.
Thanks Captain! It also seems to be keeping the cloth pot from drying out since it was a lot heavier carrying it in last night than usual. I'm still watering it the same though and then wrapping it up so the outside roots get nutes rather than water from the towel.Beautiful plants and nice towel wrapping work Shedster. CL.
Do you support that 5KC when we aren’t seeing it or just let her flop like that (although supporting that plant given your system might be kinda challenging, lol, she’s a BEAST)?Welcome to the not-even-close-to-my-birthday Tuesday update while MrS just sits back and laughs and laughs (it's okay, he weirdly likes grommets).
Anyway, here is the 5 Killer Cookies on flip day 53:
I was looking at the colas and came eye to eye with this:
At first I thought it was stuck in the trichomes because it was under a leaf and cleaning it's head (like I've seen flies do), but then it started crawling around the sugar leaves. I guess it was taking Azi's advice and trying to get a little THCa in its diet!
Finally, here is Grandpa's Moonshine on flip day 21:
I'll have a look under the hood this weekend and see what still needs to come off but I'll leave a lot on because of how it's growing. I'll get some closeups of what I mean when I'm down there.
That's it from me on not-my-birthday Tuesday, and please carry on with what you were doing...
Also how old you gonna be when it IS your birthday?Do you support that 5KC when we aren’t seeing it or just let her flop like that (although supporting that plant given your system might be kinda challenging, lol, she’s a BEAST)?
Thanks Jon! No support other than bamboo and pipe cleaners (no longer visible). I rotate it around the door frame as it goes in the shed so as not to drag off the trichomes, and I hold one side in as I slide it into the Oval of Brightness® to keep it from scraping on the insulation.Do you support that 5KC when we aren’t seeing it or just let her flop like that (although supporting that plant given your system might be kinda challenging, lol, she’s a BEAST)?

Ah. I can relate. You’ve seen some of my moves. I don’t have a repeatable system like you, so I’ve run into all sorts of necessary rigamaroles in that regard - going down hallways and over power cords and down ramps and so on…lol!!Thanks Jon! I've never used grove bags because I haven't seen the science behind them explained, and also I've got sunk costs in jars.Hi @InTheShed - I was wondering if in those endless Shed files of yours you might be able to direct me towards a tutorial post on drying with grove bags and refrigerator?
Thanks Nick! Check out Sue's low and slow thread here:Refrigerator as well?!
We just dry twice (once for 1-2 weeks after chop, again after trim) then put in the Grove Bags. Dark coolish place is fine. For us that’s in a dressing room wardrobe - the AC is on in that room 24/7
What’s the idea with the chilling?
Thanks Regrowth! For the grove bags, you either dry until it's stable around 62% before bagging
or you can treat the bags like you would if they were a giant jar,
by opening them a few times daily and monitoring their moisture level and smell...
Personally I do the latter after bagging too early and losing a bunch to the no burping claim.
And at the same time, I'd rather not risk over drying my stuff.
Everyone else is going to tell you to just dry and bag. I don't know...
Fridge dry is sweet but it doesn't change the above at all.
It seemed to extend my drying time by several days when I tried it which was nice.
If you want to go from the fridge right into bags maybe Shed's rice ball trick could work.
What's the difference between your three weeks and Grove and my three weeks and jar?The second harvest we put some in a little early. They got a bit of a veggy smell so we pulled them out and gave them another week in hanging baskets and were fine. We have the dry room nailed. 55% and 23c but still reckon 3-4 weeks total drying before the bags. Maybe could do it in 2. Another couple of weeks minimum a month ideally in the Grove bag for primo.
Thanks so much. Everyone else too. Appreciate the answers!!I've never used grove bags because I haven't seen the science behind them explained, and also I've got sunk costs in jars.
But for drying in the fridge, here is a link to a great summary of the low and slow method. It preserves the terpenes and is also good for folks living in low RH environments.
Thanks Nick! Check out Sue's low and slow thread here:
DrZiggy's Low And Slow Drying: Maximizing Your Harvest
Since beginning this thread we've had a member show up who'd spent the years since 1993 refining this very process. He's already worked out what we were trying to discover - the most favorable atmospheric conditions, how to adjust humidity levels when it's time to jar it up, and for that matter...www.420magazine.com
Thanks Regrowth!
The convenience, for me at least, is the size difference. The lazy approach...What's the difference between your three weeks and Grove and my three weeks and jar?
Burping I guess is the main one, the bags let the moisture and any gases pass. They are also made in such a way bacteria is killed - you know of “MicroBan”? That’s a trade name its quite old tech. Chopping boards and things are made of it to kill bacteria so they claim mould proof as well. What's the difference between your three weeks and Grove and my three weeks and jar?

Thanks Regrowth! Do I want something that wicks itself? If the Santa Ana's blow through and the RH gets down to 12% do I need to worry about my flowers in Grove bags? The convenience, for me at least, is the size difference. The lazy approach...
It's just nice to do a single thing instead of 20 things.
But also I think the real magic comes down to the plastic they use and it being able to wick and vent itself.
While I haven't experimented much, I have cured in another type of bag at least once before -
and I found I was losing terps and needed a pack to stay moist half way through the cure.
Meanwhile I have some stuff in grove bags from like a year and half ago that's still fairly spongy and terpy.
They're honest with the fact terpene preservation might be a bit worse than jars but I'd say still pretty good really.
I burp for two weeks in turkey bags and then seal in jars. Not sure about the MicroBan aspect as I sure as shit don't want ortho-phenylphenol (0.21%), a quaternary ammonium complex (di-isobutylphenoxy-ethoxy-ethyldimethylbenzyl-ammonium chloride, 0.69%), and bromine (0.04%) interacting with my flowers ever, much less for months on end.Burping I guess is the main one, the bags let the moisture and any gases pass. They sell them as liners for 40-50g bins/totes as well for the large commercial people. Expensive but reusable.
EDIT - forgot Deeboy tipped me to me to it. They have a new double flapped ziplock design now. I have some 1oz bags with it. Way better. We don’t heat seal them very often (you can twice maybe three if you’re neat) but the news ones don’t reckon you’d need to do it for months if ever.

Becky, you left off Becky. Her lawyer will be in touch!Oh My God, Look at her butt...
Thanks Otter! Those are my favorite kind of colas Shed! Full and plenty! They're a picture of awesomeness!
