InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

it is not going to work
You are correct, it takes energy for the plant - (organic factory) to produce the needed chemicals & changes. When younger we tried to grow big plants from flouresants and they were pathetic for the same reason not enough energy input for good bud output.

Hi Carmen. I’ve grown several autos in the last couple of years and my opinion is that they like the cooler temperatures (60-70 F). Particularly the Indica strains. Not all of the breeder sites list the particular temperature that’s best for them but FB has some great charts and a lot of them recommend “cold” as the desired grow temperature. What type of auto are you planning to grow? Perhaps put her in a pot in a sunny window and rotate her daily? Also, I don’t know what you grow in, but can you cook and then re-use the soil? My two cents (hope you don’t mind Sheddy…:cheesygrinsmiley:).

Carmen, can you find a way to hang your grow light over the sunny window?

Hi Carmen. Got an extra open bathroom, like a guest bathroom? Or one tub and a shower for you? It's pretty easy to rig a light on top of a support on either end in a bathtub and grow an auto under it. I've done it. It works really well.

You guys :)
not enough energy input for good bud output.
Thank you dynamo, although I should emphasise that our winters are temperate by comparison to the snowy winters a lot of folks experience. Winter is our rainy season though, so cold and wet is not going to be ideal outside, although a local friend is successful with photos outdoors in winter, albeit with slightly lower yield.

I have a tiny two room dwelling with a shower closet, so space is limited. I have decided that if the light fits into a bedroom cupboard, then I will likely use that space. That should keep it a little warmer too shouldn't it?
Carmen, can you find a way to hang your grow light over the sunny window?
I could do a pot in the living room using natural light from the window too, to compare. I don't want to drill in the walls as the place is not mine but I do get a LOT of light in this room all year round.

BooWho2, this is music to my ears :) I have some NBA Diesel, a Lavenders Best and some Caramel King, all have some Indica, and of course the ruderalis.

Thank you Shed, for allowing me to highjack your thread for a second :) All things being equal I may have a new grow diary of my own soon!

That'd be good Carmen, I still can picture that lovely red pistiled beauty you grew a year ago!

I'm going to hazard a guess that the April 15 tax deadline may be related to why he's not here but that's totally a guess.

I still exist for those wondering. I have but a few minutes a day on the site so far this week. I'll get to all the quotes and post pics of the 2:9 iso tests from this past weekend...eventually!
:slide:
FYI :hmmmm: Looks like he's been really busier than usual:meditate::tommy:

If that's the case, I'll bet Shed hates tax time even more than I do...

Looks like I've got a few quotes to attend to...
How long after final transplant, do you flip yours?
I try to wait at least a week, but preferably two or three so the roots can really get established before I need them for flowering.
I'm trying to get my life squared away, in a way that I can try hydro and synthetics
LOL!
Hi Shed, read this (as a sometimes guest on your thread) and automatically smiled.
This being said in such a manner and on a higher traffic thread is better for everyone.
Any how kudos to you for bringing it up, Ill keep an eye out for further thoughts and experiences especially as the Nth hemisphere bleeds into the outdoor season starting proper. For whatever we know, we can always learn more.
I have suggested a similar idea before in other threads, but theres a reluctance to push the wheelbarrow on my own behalf as its impossible to guage how effective the info is gleaned from growers under the extreme Aussie outdoors sunshine. Meaning does it still work in differing regions and environments. Oddly in support of it is another Aussie grower in Amy.
Thanks DV8! I owe it to the amazing @Amy Gardner for the original idea, but even more so to @BeezLuiz for proving it in the field. I'm sure if I had scoped the Doug's Varin this weekend there would be loads of amber on it, but it's still drinking (albeit more slowly) so it will live another week.
Any how, Ive said a lot to say a little.
Say whatever it takes to make you feel like you got your point across!
Doug's Varin is looking awesome! I nearly went for some but changed my mind at the last minute. Looking forward to what you think of the effects on that one.
Thanks Professor! Not sure if mine will smoke like anyone else's since they pulled DV completely off the site due to inconsistent test results.
I just want to say , Sorry for the improper thread i put in Mr. Shed .. Mr. Edwards let me know in a personal post and we got that squared . Plant looks Good Shed Hope the weekend is less cold there than here .
No worries sb! Weekends have been cloudy in the mornings and sunny in the afternoons, so not too shabby for early April.
I did this last year and did not reveg that I saw.
:thanks: Otter!
My wedding anniversary day.
Oh nice! Or is it...
Oh oh I made a mistake! No I got married on May first.
Oh yeah, that's right. :cheesygrinsmiley:
my birthday on D Day.
I won't get fooled again!
That Candida ready for flower has some thick branches! Nice beefy plant!
Thank you! I should be flipping it and the Jack Herer 1.1 in the next week or so. It's going to need a real cleanup first though.
Have you ever used Neem as a systemic for your aphid colony?
I haven't. I am definitely not into systemics for anything consumable. If neem even is systemic in cannabis.
soil feeding poisons them slowly as they ingest it from the plant. the spray mostly coats them and they suffocate. so it's a different action for each approach.
I have read that neem is a systemic in some - but not all - plants, and there are competing statements about whether cannabis is one. Like I mentioned, I stay clear of systemic insecticides for consumables. And I grow a lot of consumables here (lemon, satsuma, pineapple, pomegranate, cannabis, and soon, limes!).
We'll leave the light on for ya!
I appreciate you all keeping this place bright and alive in my absence.

:circle-of-love:
I just wonder how many it would take to make a gal. of antifreeze
 Maybe @dynamo1 can save some aphids from his DDAs and test that out. ;)
Hi Shed,
I hope you are all well.
I have a rookie question regarding autos. Is is possible to grow autos under a light but at winter room temperature that sometimes drops below 13 degrees C. I can't afford the electricity to run a heater in the room as well as the light. Alternatively, what about growing the plants in a bright window with heat instead of light? I am really skint and trying to do a bare bones grow. If it is not going to work I'd rather know not to waste money on soil etc. I know you used to grow autos, so what do you recommend in my circumstances?
Great replies below Carmen...I'm glad my folks here took good care of you!

Remind me...did you grow autos outside or were they all photos?
hope you don’t mind Sheddy
Not at all!
Carmen, can you find a way to hang your grow light over the sunny window?
Good idea!

Almost all light will produce some heat, but the heat from LEDs comes from the driver rather than the LEDs themselves. Except fluorescents...no heat from them.
I could do a pot in the living room using natural light from the window too, to compare. I don't want to drill in the walls as the place is not mine but I do get a LOT of light in this room all year round.
A lot of light will at least get you something!
Thank you Shed, for allowing me to highjack your thread for a second All things being equal I may have a new grow diary of my own soon!
That's not a hijack Carmen! And I'm holding thumbs that you drop a link to a new journal here soon. :)
Good morning Shed
:ciao: Otter!
I've missed the Shed lately. Is he on vacation or something? Or is it just me?
Aww thanks Jon. I'm on the opposite of vacation, and you're always on vacation down in sunny Florida!
I'm going to hazard a guess that the April 15 tax deadline may be related to why he's not here but that's totally a guess.
Naw, not tax related. That's purely coincidence!
Looks like he's been really busier than usual
So busy at work that there's no time for here, and I'm so burned out by the weekend that all I have the energy for is taking care of the plants!
If that's the case, I'll bet Shed hates tax time even more than I do...
I hate tax time about the same as anyone who tends to owe money every year. :(

Let me start by going into a bit more detail about my absence. My company is going through a major transition with new ownership and a new management team that's still not in place yet. I've been there over 20 years and this is the first time it's happened, so there are new people coming in and new procedures, systems, and new hardware and software to be evaluated and possibly trained on. So very little downtime to visit here.

I'm still hopeful that my time will begin to free up soon! In the meantime, here's a quick update from last weekend! Didn't take any pics this weekend.

I thinned the Candida mother:

Before...

After...

It's already grown a lot of it back.

I also tried another test of the 2:9 iso:water spray though I'm still not committed to an answer because I don't have time to let the spray dry off, leaving a lot of moisture in the pics to cover up the results.

I did pull out the old bucket of botrytis buds though. Here is what it looked like when I started it in August of 2019:

I added more to it that summer, and it has been sitting in the garage under the skylights for two and a half years. Here are the bleached results:

Some closeups of the buds:

I grabbed some old Candida flowers and sprayed those as well, and here is what I mean about the remaining liquid making it harder to discern the results:

Before...

After...

I really need to set this up inside on one bud somewhere where I can leave it untouched for a day while all the liquid evaporates. So the answer is still "reply hazy, try again." Sorry!

In other news, I mixed up a new batch of STS following the instructions from the video in this post (originally posted by @Virgin Ground). Instead of being a 10% solution it's a 50% solution. I sprayed one of the Sour G clones tonight and plan to flip in on Thursday (in the tent under the DV) after another spray. The other two will be flipped 7 and 14 days later to make sure I have pistils ready to receive the potential pollen.

Doug's Varin lives on because it still dries out, now after three days rather than two. Either way I think I'll take it down next weekend. I think it's around flip day 70 now. It looks the same as last time but I'll try to grab a pic Monday morning.

I apologize for getting so far behind in all my subscribed threads and I may never catch up. I hope that you and that you and your plants are thriving this spring.

Great to see you, Shed, if only for a little while.. I hope work gets back to normal soon, so you can spend more time with us..

And I think that might be a record for the most quotes- well done!

Hey Shed! Good to know it's *just* work/busy. Not that it might feel like "just" work to you at the moment. When you're not here your absence is conspicuous.

EDIT: "always on vacation?" - that would be an extremely inaccurate statement. FYI... lol!

That's not a hijack Carmen! And I'm holding thumbs that you drop a link to a new journal here soon. :)
Thank you Shed.
Don't work too hard now. You know what they say about all work and no play :)

Lol!! It would be tough to make Shed a dull boy. Dull is not the first word that comes to mind when one thinks about that man.
