InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Hope that helps.
It does, thanks! I'll go with whichever is cheaper since I won't be using the additives if it makes OF more expensive. :)
That’s what I do also. FFHF up until transplanting to 5s. Usually I use FFOF but switched to Mother Earth Ground Swell. After a few runs with FFOF I wasn’t getting the results I wanted so I switched. ME drains super fast, so I think I’ll blend it with something like FFOF or Roots Organic. Something that hold the water a bit better. I have a buddy experimenting with that now.
The time I mixed Roots Organics, Black Magic for the soil, then added in EWC, #3 perlite, Down to Earth Flower, and Dr. Bloom was when I was getting the best numbers.
I want my next grow to be with a built soil again and as big as a PITA it is, go back to brewing compost teas. Maybe run 1 or 2 massive plants in a 10 gallon so it’s not as much work as it is when you’re running 6. Or give the GeoFlora a shot. My other buddy grows outdoors and is considering using it too.
Thanks Adam, and nice have you cruise through! That sounds like a lotta bags of soil floating around your house. :) I haven't got that kind of space here, so I'll be sticking with one type from start to finish.

And a number of folks here are getting good results from GeoFlora with a few tweaks to their original instructions (a bit more product, a bit more often, a bit of extra nitrogen...). I added it to my lemon tree on transplant and it's greened up rather nicely! It looks pretty yellow in that pic.

Hiya Shed!

Your plants are looking awesome as usual!

FYI I just picked up a bag of FFOF and a bag of FFHF at DIY Center in the valley. About $19 per large bag. I'm gonna do a blend this grow (outdoor). Start out with mostly HF in a cup, mostly HF when she goes to 1 gal pot, then about 60OF / 40HF in a 5 gal fabric pot.

I got 6 mystery seeds sitting in a cup of water (well, 2 cups 3 seeds each). A buddy gave me a small jar of random seeds. Not sure if they will germinate. Been 24 hours and they are still floating. Got my fingers crossed!

Thanks Grateful! Same price for both? Makes it more of a decision then.

And a small jar of random seeds can be a blessing or a curse, so I hope it's a terrific summer in Budland!

Actually (I just checked the receipt) $17.99 per bag - 1.5 cubic ft OF and 2 cubic ft HF. They had a lot if you want to make the drive up.

I'm just testing the mystery seeds to see if they will sprout. If so, hell yes!
I also purchased some seeds from Extreme Seeds. SFV OG and SFV. Both are supposed to do well outdoors in the extreme heat I get thru summer into October. I'll start a grow journal once they all pop and are in cups.

Morning Shed! If I may contribute a little, and I may have told you this before - when I was researching Fox Farms soil I called the company and eventually got someone who has worked there a long time, is a high level grower, and uses all the FF products. She told me that she and many of their other growers/salepeople use a blend of OF and HF. This is why it has been my go to soil mix forever. It's perfect. I go 40% OF, 40% HF, and 20% perlite #3. The blend seems to mitigate the "hotness" of the OF, and the OF seems to give the HF the extra boost it sometimes needs. I have never once burned a seedling due to soil.

For what it's worth!

Fyi. I used to be a seller for them back in 2011-13 years and yes ocean forest is not good for seedlings best results were to happy frog it. Then transplant into OF. . I still do that system of soil today. Cause I know it so well. Little calMag twice in each stage. And ur good

@7Dust2 - damn man, is there ever a day when you don't subtly drop yet another piece of information revealing that you likely have forgotten more about growing than I know? Lol.

Ah, now there's an interesting idea I hadn't considered. That would maybe and probably would beat using my soil blend for the whole thing. I'd rather be in OF once the seedling stage is over. Good call, thanks. Imma try that next time.

Hey shed i was wondering when you put photoperiod plants outside for the summer grow season? I normally shoot for sometime around cinco de Mayo - Mother’s Day. I can also supplement lighting if need be. I was curious if you or anyone else that follows along here have any experience doing so? I’d like to get them outside sooner maybe even sometime in April. Thanks

I've yet figure out what the hell is shurg drug surge what hell y'all call it mean. Idk I lost that nacronims list they gave me . Lmao

Now I know. Had to go back read it . Yeah fox farm sht I know we'll bro all I ever used . Have used different stuff. Before. But less work less to remember and less problems with FF. Every 3 weeks I add 5ml to gallon to each stage of growth. And ur golden. Now I suggest this just me. Take 1ml to gallon to seedlings. Once get 2 node. To make sure they get a good start.. cause within 3-4 node. They need it I give 1 ml. First week of life to the dirt.. and ur good for 3 weeks. Then again every 3 weeks. Never more than 5mls. Tho. I even done 3mls. And ur fine. Just alittle all they need.. bigger paint more it needs.

Great question, I have been wondering the same thing. I'm also wondering when "too late" is to put them outside for the season (in Pennsylvania I'll actually have seasons, yay!) is? And, what is the optimal size of the plant when you put it outside (assuming you've started indoors)? Do you want to have to up pot once it's outside?

Yeah, you opened the can I've been waiting to ask about. Thanks @LED209.

Highya ITS, guys,

I start mine April 1st. Put in cold frame mid-May, then into garden by Memorial day. If outside too soon, the sun isn't out long enough to keep them in veg mode. Unfortunately, I don't know when that is, but my seedlings stay in veg mode until the sun shortens up enough to flower them! Happy Smokin'

Up here in Ontario, we're planning on growing autos outside this year since we had so much bud rot last year.

I'll be starting those seeds at the beginning of May and they will be moved outside once the threat of frost is all done.

If we were growing photos outside, I would start them inside early to mid-April.

If it's using one or the other then I would go with the OF. All of my seeds are started in OF, and you know I start feeding at the second set of leaves so there's that.

Have you grown autos outside yet? I was amazed at the difference. In my experience, they respond to the sun much differently than they do to LED, unlike photos. Autos seem to get a lot bigger in the sun than they do in a tent, all other things being equal. I was really surprised.

Sorry fam! Bit of shit-show at work this week so I have no idea when I'll be able to get on the site, but I had a second to reply to the quotes below:

I've seen a lot of folks mix them together, but I've also seen folks run OF from seed without any problem (like MrS below).

Me? I'm only buying one type, so whichever works out cheaper. :)

I'll probably start seeds and clones in ProMix HP, so the supposed heat of OF won't be a problem.

Good question LED! You can move them as soon as the nighttime temps will stay in the mid-60s. But you should be running them inside at the same light/dark period it will be for that date to keep them from flowering early. If you were in Los Angeles and you wanted to find out the day/night hours for May 8, you would find out here:

You can enter your city and drag the date bar around to find your daylight hours for that date.

If you want to run longer light hours inside before you put them out you would need to add the supplemental light outside to match what your timer was doing inside.

Brrr...such a short growing period! On the other hand, free health care. :thumb:

If OF is more expensive than HF I can't think of a single reason to pay for the extra sea-life they add, just to feed them after the second leaves anyway. :cheesygrinsmiley:

So if I’m running 18/6 indoors currently is it okay to back it off to 14 hours now? Or would it be better just keeping it the way it is and do supp lighting once I put them outside. I’ve also heard of the gas latern method to interrupt the dark period for an hour or two in the middle of the night. But seems weird to me since naturally they will never get light at midnight

I think as long as you plant before the summer solstice you should be okay. Anytime after that I’d say would prob be too late since the days start to get shorter after that. I always try to get them sexed before I put them outside. So I pre-veg my seeds inside for 8-10 weeks prior to putting them outside. Then harden them off for a week and plant from a 2 gallon into their final pots. My plants are in it for the long hall. I started the seeds feb and plan to harvest in October. So bigger pots seem logical to me. Others on here get great results in 10-20 gallon pots. But I try to yield a 1lb+ per plant and I’ve only got that in larger pots. Could be my growing style/experience/genetics or a mixture of the 3. I’ve seems 5-6 foot plants in 10 gallon pots from others on here. I like to really keep them short and bushy as possible. I want mine 5 feet tall and 5-6 feet wide. Ive always liked thicker girls :). Funny thing about it is if you ask 10 different people you will prob end up with 8-10 different answers for those questions I’ve discovered. It’s all about trial and error and finding what works for you. Only problem is it takes time and mistakes.

18/6 is fine, until you want to flip to 12/12 for flowering.
