InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Late again, but Congrats on:

1:The 9.6 oz. CB final weight!
2:The POTM win! (featuring the aforementioned 9.6 oz. plant)
3: The sprouting of a very special seed! (maybe 2 if things work out)
Rare crisis at work that needs my almost full attention

And thank you for taking time to post the THCV info- I was wondering why it was special, and you answered all my questions!

Good luck with the crisis at work!

Congrats on the new addition!
sounds like a great strain to try!
Thanks Rex! I'm hoping to get a wide variety of opinions on how the THCV differs from everything else. Which means beyond my family. ;)

1. Thanks!
2. Thanks!
3. Thanks!

How can a Carcass ever be late anyway? And glad to provide the info on THCV. I bet VG will have more to say about it when she starts our joint DV grow journal later this week!
Congrats Shed on more successes and wins!
Thank you Carmen! :ciao:

Hey the @InTheShed - tag me for that one? I’d love to follow!

Hey babygirl and :welcome: to my perpetual grow journal! I don't think I'll be tagging anyone, but if you're willing to stick around for at least a few days, I will be dropping a link here when it's up and running. This isn't such a bad place to be. :)
Oh I’m always watching here! Cool - I’ll be on the lookout for that link!

Doug's Varin sprout (day 1) from @Weed Seeds Express. :yahoo:

From the WSE website:

"With Doug's Varin seeds, you grow a really hard-to-get strain which was specifically developed to contain high levels of THCV. THCV is a compound that is similar to THC in terms of psychoactive properties and molecular structure, but offers different amplified and varied effects. Unlike other medicinal strains, Doug's Varin can contain up to 25% THCV, which is extremely rare. The Doug's Varin plant needs 10 to 12 weeks to complete its full flowering cycle, which is a typical period for a Sativa."

And what's the big deal about THCV?

Here is some of what is said about it on the Journal of Cannabis Research:
"The main advantage of THCV over THC is the lack of psychoactive effects. In rodent studies, THCV decreases appetite, increases satiety, and up-regulates energy metabolism, making it a clinically useful remedy for weight loss and management of obesity and type 2 diabetic patients."

And this from Leafly:
• THCV is an appetite suppressant. In contrast to THC, THCV may dull the appetite. This may be good for consumers focused on weight loss, but THCV should be avoided by patients treating appetite loss or anorexia.
• THCV may help with diabetes. Research shows promise in THCV’s ability to regulate blood sugar levels and reduce insulin resistance.
• THCV may reduce panic attacks. It appears to curb anxiety attacks in PTSD patients without suppressing emotion.
• THCV may help with Alzheimer’s. Tremors, motor control, and brain lesions associated with Alzheimer’s disease appear to be improved by THCV, but research is in progress.
• THCV stimulates bone growth. Because it promotes the growth of new bone cells, THCV is being looked at for osteoporosis and other bone-related conditions.

Like I always say...we'll see! In the meantime, I've got a new plant. :)

Let's just hope it's a Doug's Varin and not a "sswpuotfaasowacatwis" like my N.A.A. (Non-Auto Auto)

For those not in on the joke... "sswpuotfaasowacatwis" is an acronym that Shed came up with. Stands for "some seed we picked up off the floor and are shipping out without a clue as to what it is".

Congrats on your win and on your new bambino! :Rasta:

Congratulations on the Plant of the Month Win! :welldone:
In case @BeezLuiz is keeping a spreadsheet, the JH was 36.5" tall and the Sour G was 33" (after the supercrop a bit ago). We'll see...
Got it!

Speaking of Doug's Varin, I planted it last night when I got home, and I decided to do it a little differently. So let's make that the Wednesday update.

Usually I just plant it in a solo cup and then try to water around it without getting the peat puck wet, but still getting all of the bottom layer of ProMix moist. I'm always afraid of damping off since that peat puck retains a lot of water. This time I planted it in stages.

First I filled the cup with ProMix HP and packed it down so I knew I would have enough:

Then I took out about a third:

And I watered that thoroughly and let it drain. This meant that the tap root would find moist media without me having to soak the whole cup.

Then, after removing the cover on the peat puck (please do!), I placed it on the damp ProMix and filled in around it:

Here it is, waiting for the final step (which I foolishly forgot to get a pic of, so my description will have to suffice):

I then took it to the kitchen sink, got a small stream of warm water, held the cup at an angle, and watered just around the outside edge where the dry ProMix was. I let that drain and put it back in the outside cup.

Any moisture that works its way into the peat will be at the very bottom or outside edges, well away from the part where the sprout emerges. I put the cup back on the heat mat, and this morning it met Ms Sunshine for the first time. Let's go!

I hope your Wednesday is going well. :)
