InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

That’s great, thanks. I’ll go back to the earlier post.

I am not suggesting the movement itself as an issue - just the risk of continually fracturing the matrices of hyphae and other built networks. There are all sorts of structures established in a LOS environment. I don’t think it’s been studied as such but it was definitely something DB said would ruin a living soil grow - disturbing the soil structure regularly. So, I thought is with mentioning.

I thought HH had a toxicity issue late in her grow where she’d supplemented w the MC after not mixing her living soil properly - so once the living soil started to work, things overloaded, we surmised ;)

I guess that makes sense! Though I wonder if GF really is LOS or just mimics it. :hmmmm:

[See my thought on that below...]

Either way, it needs more study at Chez Shed before I can decide if it's for me. And if moving the GF plants turns out to be a problem, then I can't use it.

Oh! double H created a weird hybrid of some brand of soil mix below her regular soil/ProMix that didn't feed her plants, forcing her to go back to MC to get them to harvest. I think it was only one plant that was fussy in the end, but still the harvest turned out a bit of alright!

I don't get the feeling that GF is creating actual living soil for a couple of reasons. First is it has an NPK ratio on the bag, and another is that watering to runoff is not recommended because the nutrients (bacteria?) will wash out. I can't see runoff being a problem with a home built LOS.

🤷 I dunno then. I never water to run off. LOS works really well with swick and auto bottom watering, too, so not watering to runoff is not unusual and isn’t really a reason to think it isn’t LOS, I don’t think. I don’t see why you would think GF is not a ‘living soil‘ system. It says so right there ;) :D

Wednesday update, where the skies are all cloudy all day. :)

Still, the plants are outside soaking up the grey, so I thought I would take a pic of them. Here is my grow of many colors:

I gave the Jack Herer some 4g equivalent water down the middle, and misted the top of the TCK and Sour G soil to get the new top-dress of GF working.

Since you've seen the roots, how about the shoots!

Too chilly to move them outside still, but this weekend I'll start to harden them off.

And finally, since @ChefDGreen asked me about the pH of the nutes in regard to the soil/perlite mix, I found my pen this morning:

Fine for soil, too high for hempy. :hmmmm:

I hope your days are sunny and warm...stay safe!

I don't want to get into a back and forth here on what LOS is (since it's not my growing style), but GeoFlora doesn't use the term "living soil" except when they talk about their inclusion of beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae ("creating a web of living soil biology"). Adding beneficial bacteria and mycorrhizae doesn't turn a substrate into an LOS, even with the addition of some time-release pre-mixed organic nutes. GeoFlora is not going to replace Van's or Rev's or Coot's recipes among folks who want a true LOS grow. I'm not saying GF doesn't work for a lot of people, I'm just saying I wouldn't call it LOS.

I think of GeoFlora as an organic form of Osmocote (time-release) that can be used as a top-dress (like other organic water-in nutrients, e.g. Dr Earth). I don't see that as similar to building a living organic soil.

Amazing looking girls @InTheShed !
I love how the Red Dragon looks. So bushy!!

I bet that harvest Is going to be a large one!
I don't think there's any other kind when Shed's doing the growin'...
(Nevermind the DDa's ;))

Everyone is looking good, except poor lil JH. :( I’m sure you’ll get her all straightened out.

Not that it’s necessarily important info at this point, but the Candida grow was the one I tried to switch to the living soil. It was still in promix hp the whole time, just with the soil concentrate mixed in. My experience was that my living soil never really took off with using it, and the MC. I ended up feeding with full dose MC to finish them all up.

Thanks double H! I'm hoping that JH sorts itself out soon, or I may give up on it and drop another later in the summer. I don't think I'm really showing off the genetics on this one. :)

With that Candida grow there was one non-Candida that went all yellow by the end. I think that was the one Amy was referring to.

Everything looking good Shed, except for the recalcitrant JH who obviously has no idea who is growing her. :Rasta:

What size pots are the big ones in?

As always your plants are absolutely stellar.
Question: do you think you may have accidentally mixed up your seeds and the Jack H is actually the Chiquita banana? The color suggests that could possibly be the case. Just a thought. :Namaste:

Where are you Boo? I need a word from you here. :laughtwo:
