InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

Hi Shed! I’m hoping you might share some of your wisdom with me. When I started asking around to some of our mutual grow buds, they quickly told me to touch base with you. I have a new need to get a topical going. I have the gear to decarb and I have a MB2 for the infusion. Grapeseed oil has been the overwhelming recommendation I’ve heard. Ultimately, the topical is intended to treat rheumatoid arthritis. So I figured I’d use a portion of 1:1 CBDream flower, and a portion of indica trim from something like a Pink Kush perhaps. Masking odour is not a concern. Any thoughts or tips?

I am curious too so I am standing by for Sheds recommendation

Sounds like you're off to a great start with the planning! If you have access to pumpkin seed oil I'd recommend a blend of 50/50 with grapeseed oil (GSO), as I have found it less greasy than straight GSO. If you can't get any don't sweat it, as GSO works well and is still nowhere near as greasy as a lot of other oils folks use.

My topicals, whether THC or CBD based, are all attempts to get to at least 15mg/ml of each cannabinoid. I've had my Candida CBD EVOO tested so I know what ratios to blend that, but with the THC strains I estimate low on the THC % so as to overshoot rather than undershoot.

If you have an idea of the CBD and THC percentages of the flowers you will be using I can give you an idea as to how much of each to use to create a single oil that is both 15mg/ml CBD and 15mg/ml THC. I use Oldbear's spreadsheet that allows for up to three different types of flower in one batch.

Let me know!

I lost my last project for not doing just that!
Good info, thanks otter! My only attempt to harvest pollen was off a Haze Xtreme a couple of years ago, and the freezer just left it clumpy and damp. I think it was @Stunger who kept his on a shelf in the kitchen and it worked fine. I wonder if it will survive shipping to the other side of the world. :hmmmm:

Just to clarify on this:

I went back and found Stunger's quote:
For this I used some White Widow Xtrm pollen that I had saved from a male plant last year, it had not been well stored as it had been left high on a shelf in the lounge and consequently had been in temperatures of 30C over Summer. Anyway, I can report that I found no seeds,:( so as I had been warned and as I knew was a possibility, the pollen was clearly not viable, unfortunately.
So maybe on a shelf in the heat isn't the best idea, but I'm hoping a cool drawer will be okay...

I bought some dry packs for the future longer storage and haven't tried them yet. I'm pretty sure I have to dry the pollen before it gets cold in the fridge. Rice is in one in the fridge now. I have to check it but don't want to open it . It's a conundrum.

It is. It's a great conundrum. Maybe I'll bake some white rice (like I do for rice balls) and put it in two separate baggies with two sets of pollen. One in the drawer and one in the fridge. I'm going to skip the freezer this time...too much condensation.
Thanks for the help Shed! I’ll see if I can find pumpkin seed oil. CBDream is said to be about 6% THC, 6% CBD. My indica trim is of fairly high quality, trim and popcorn, so I’d guess 10% THC conservatively. It may be higher.
Unless your indica flowers really come in over 20% THC, I don't think 10% is conservative for trim. But if you want a mix of THC and CBD I'm not sure why you would include your THC trim as it will make it impossible to get a matching blend of both.

Using just the CBDream you would need 140g in 2 cups of oil to get to 15mg/ml of both THC and CBD.

My rationale on supplementing with the trim was entirely based on memory of an old grower that I trusted telling me in the past to go more than 1:1 - to bump up the THC side of the coin to enhance the painkilling. But as we know, not all old school views are always correct! #noflush

Bumping is relative! If you don't have enough of something then bumping it is better :). Amy finds a 1:1 blend does well for pain but I only have separate bottles of each now. I'd save the trim for edibles or bubble hash or something!

BTdubs, the 140g I mentioned above is post-decarb weight. And as I have said before (when folks question why I have so much weed stored in jars), topicals use up a lot!

What's New Pussycat? :laughtwo:
I love Mulaney.

I just watched Togo on Disney + and I'm crying still.:eye-roll:

I just  dogs so, so much.

Hope you're having a good evening Sheddie.

:ciao:

On the couch and just about to watch the John Mulaney special from Radio City Music Hall. It's the third of three and we've re-watched the first two this week. Keeps us off the news channels. :)

Batten down the hatches...winds a'blowin!
That guys a riot. I just saw him on SNL. He also used to do an elderly Jewish gentleman on The Kroll show great stuff. Anyway, ive never been here before. Some wild stuff!
