InTheShed Grows Inside & Out: Jump In Any Time

I was going to do a bigger update today, but I want to focus on the Sour G leaves. Yesterday I watered with just 6ml cal/mag+ (2-0-0) in a gallon of pH water. There had been the previous leaf issues you've seen, but this morning looked like this:

Those look like a Mag deficiency, yes? Which also looks a bit like excess P or K. One leave looked like this:

I pulled them all off so I can see how it progresses:

I know that multiple problems at the same time can be a pH issue, but I have been calibrating my meter. Unless it's completely screwed up.

Everyone comment, don't just "like"!
:thanks:
Are we going from veg to flower @InTheShed sorry?

Usually if not late on flower or switching from veg to flip some def will happen . But if lower yellow leaves are falling off and started down low isn’t that nitro def?

However if I was to guess I would say phorphus def or mag def personally again my best guess buddy

It better be at those prices! I've been keeping mine soaking in the 4.01 solution like it recommends, but every time I turn it back on it's not at 4.0. It was 3.7 this morning so I just added .3 to my number when I mixed nutes for the AK! Tired of turning the tiny screw every other day .
I have a ph pen never used man was a 25$ pen your welcome to have it let me know ? Led display just need to calibrate it as sitting for a year buddy . I don’t need it .

Sorry to keep bugging but I like my shit perfectly clear. What you're calling storage solution is one of the calibrating solutions? Can I keep using my 4.01 as storage solution?
No my storage solution is labled 3M KCI Storage solution for PH/ORP Electrode. It is different that the calibration solutions that I have. I'm not sure about using the calibration solutions for storage.

Well...the flush was April 3rd so it's been a week now. Next water I'll go back to regular nutes (Grow Big, Cal/Mag, Armor Si) and take it from there. Not like I don't have three months to sort it out! It's just hard to see a plant look like that when you wake up.
That’s about how long it takes to see last weeks work. Move at the speed of the plants Shed.

Yeah, I tend to buy pricey items that gave me problems in the past (20 years ago). PPM, pH or EC meters will get some money thrown at them. Liquid pumps and air pumps would also be pricey if I was in hydro.
That is why my mantra is buy it nice or buy it twice. I didn’t buy a nice ph pen so now I am going to have to continue buying cheap ones over & over or I can get the same confidence (for a few more bucks) that Derby has in his. On the other hand, I’ve played cheap Japanese and Mexican made guitars that were built by folks who cared about their jobs and sounded better than my higher end American made Gibson and Fenders built by guys who are mad at their plant managers. I hope you land on a ph pen like that Shed!

Hopefully your new pen wasn't assembled on a Monday or Friday.

Oh thanks Retrix! I'll see if they just sell the storage solution when I buy the pen.

Did I say I was in a hurry? MadDab mentioned the flush and so I thought it was important to mention when it happened.

I have a Japanese Strat and I think it sounds great!

No plant pics this morning so here's the worm bin with last night's potato skins and some spinach for strong worm forearms. I covered it with a layer of soil and wet it down. I want to dig in there and see if I can find a worm. I dumped in the package from @Blew Hiller in the dark so I haven't seen a single one!

And driving to work this morning I saw these advertisements for the MedMen pot shops. Interesting approach about eliminating the word "stoner" doncha think?

The wind took out the power to my office building this morning, which messed me up as it took out the server and the internet! All's well now. I hope you are all powered up to get through the day!

You have a phosphorus or potassium issue.
Avoid cal mag for the next couple weeks. Avoid bloom nutes of any kind and anything containing tricarboxylic acids. Feed nitrogen hard by means of often and not by means of strong doses. Should clear up in a couple weeks. However. This could be attributed to an old problem as its lower growth in the plant. But if it’s advancing then it’s an ongoing problem that should be addressed. I usually find when I have issues like this in veg if give a good transplant and feed consistent nitrogen for a couple weeks I pull it out of the slump. Considering your ph is at 6.8 that’s of no concern. And considering it’s in vegatative state issues like this usually don’t arise from ph fluctuations. In flower ph fluctuations come fast and destroy crops but in veg they appear and are treatable.

Hope this helps shed.

Rooster, can you share how you came to your reasoning of the P/K issue? Would you classify it as deficit or toxicity? This is an area that need more education with.

Not disputing or disagreeing.....I just want to know the whys of what you said, share your thinking please if possible.

Thanks Rooster! I watered this morning so it's too late to avoid cal/mag, but my cal/mag+ is 2-0-0 so no P or K. I laid off the Armor Si so there was no K boost there, but I did use my Grow Big. I haven't got anything that's straight nitrogen other than cal/mag+, so I can't do heavy N and no cal/mag. Why no cal/mag by the way?

I'll be transplanting Sour G on Sunday into a 7 gallon felt pot.

Grow Big ingredients list (6-4-4):
Ammonium sulfate, ammonium phosphate, urea, blood meal, potassium nitrate, potassium sulfate, earthworm castings, Norwegian kelp, iron EDTA, zinc EDTA, manganese EDTA, copper EDTA, chelating agent, disodium ethylenediamine tetra acetate (EDTA), sodium borate and sodium molybdate.

Cal/mag+ ingredient list and analysis (2-0-0):
Calcium nitrate, magnesium nitrate, iron EDTA.
Total Nitrogen (N) ….. 2.0%
1.94% Nitrate Nitrogen (N)
0.06% Water Soluble Nitrogen (N)
Calcium (Ca) ….. 3.2%
Magnesium (Mg) ….. 1.2%
1.2% Water Soluble Magnesium (Mg)
Iron (Fe) ….. 0.1%
0.1% Chelated Iron (Fe)

Big Bloom is listed as 0.01 - 0.3 - 0.7, and is earthworm castings, bat guano, and Norwegian kelp.

I had a lot of watering to do this morning as everything was pretty dry. First I mixed up nutes for the Sour G, AK clone, and Gold Leaf.

Into a gallon of water (@ 210 TDS) went:
6 ml cal/mag+ (+286)
2 tsp Grow Big (+500)
3 tbs Big Bloom (+204)
Nute TDS was 786. Since I split this over three plants there was no runoff.

Next I mixed the AK flowering nutes. I mix 2 gallons and give it 1.5, saving .5 gallons for next watering to save time. Into a gallon of water (@ 210 TDS) went:
1 tsp Armor Si (+90)
3 ml cal/mag+ (+92)
¼ tsp Open Sesame (+105)
2 tsp Tiger Bloom (+488)
3 tbs Big Bloom (+195)
Total TDS was 1180, nutes were 775, runoff was +710, or about the same as it has been lately. No signs of stress. 192 ounces in and around 20 ounces out.

That's all that's going on outside the shed. Pics tomorrow!

Thanks to @RETRIX, I ordered the Apera PH20 tester pH pen from amazon yesterday morning. I had a choice of the pen alone or the full kit with the calibration solution. I went with just the pen and ordered a bottle of storage solution separately. I figured the pen would be here Monday and the solution mid-week.

Friday the 13th is not unlucky for me, because not only did the pen get here in one day, they sent the full on kit with its own carrying case!

I still have to wait for the storage solution, but pretty slick! And now I know how to say "important note" in German as well ;).

Let's be clear. You flushed with low/no nutes for a week.... that's why we see the yellowing down low, no? Your soil is relatively inert (no nutrition).

One thing I forgot to mention was feeding some bennies if you have any. It's always good to start at the roots. They should perk up for you with the nutes back. I want my icon :more nutes:

Worm bin looks good shed. Hard for me to say one way or another. Just remember not too much greens. They're probably down munching shreded paper

Yes, straight water flush and not much to eat in the soil. I've got Great White mykos I can add next water, is that what you meant by bennies? Not benzadrine, right? Those bennies should be before your time.

Either way I'll be adding the regular Mykos when I transplant on Sunday.

Not too many greens in the worm bin, just the occasional spinach leaves and broccoli stems. I'm going to dig down and look for worms tomorrow :).

I'm always scared to dig because I don't want to hurt them. Funny thing is I know earthworms can become 2 separate living worms when chopped in half.... I better start digging!!!

Hey Shed, I had the problem with calibrating the cheap PH pens too. I almost killed a whole grow once because my pen was saying my reseviour was at 5.7 but in reality it was 4.1. I looked for PH pens that aren't so expensive because I'm a cheap ass. I found one called The Apera PH20.

I got it on Amazon for 49 bucks I believe. It's not the cheapest pen around, however it doesn't cost 150 to 200 dollars either. It came already calibrated. I have never had to re-calibrate it yet. I keep the bulb covered in storage solution and it has remained faithful for going on 4 years now.
Loving my 7 pros pen ,It was 17 bucks and precalibrated and came with 6 packs of calibrating powder . Effing rocks
