InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet cfl's

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

That's kind of what I was thinking...
If I can get the cage off of this fan then mount it up inside the duck and have it suspended by rubber straps then there will be al lot more room for lights, etc.

Update w/ pics

Today's update...

Installed the lights in the clone/seedling shelf...

I'm not really sure about the large unlit area in between the bulbs, I may have to reposition them or add another bulb in the middle.

I have the lights on now and will be checking the cab temp throughout the day to see if they effect the temp at all.

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

When ya going to transplant those babies? I'm guessing your going to put some ducting where the hole is between flower and veg shelves right?
Does the cage of the fan slip into the hole you have (but the lip gets caught on the edge)? If so you could mount it there and use some 1/4" thick (or thicker) weather stripping as a gasket.

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

Will be the transplanting the larger seedlings very soon. The smaller seedlings will stay in the tray for a another week or two, and the very small/weak ones will be killed.

Yes, that 4" dryer duct will go through the hole in either a "S" shape, or more likely a "U" shape. Then the the edges will be sealed with something so that it is light-tight.

Today's update 2

Today's Update #2

Wow, the 2 daylight cfl's in the seedling/clone shelf raised the canopy temp by +2° in the first flowering shelf, holding at 78° F. However, I think it's going to be really hard to tell if temps are going to be an issue until I actually have the passive intake complete and the door installed... I still have one more fan that can be added if necessary. I'm also pretty sure that mounting the fan closer to the ceiling will allow the fan to pull all of the hot air out more efficiently.

Also pruned the two smallest lower branches on Jeri Main. They didn't even have any flowers showing on them and were not getting any direct light. Pruned them so that the plant can send that energy to the flowering sites further up the plant.

Will be transplanting the largest seedlings very soon...

The cage of the fan is like 6" and the duct is 4", but the fan itself is about 4", hopefully a little smaller. It looks as if it will fit into the duct with the motor suspended slightly below ceiling level. That is, if I can get this effin cage off without messing the motor up. ;) If the fan is to be mounted in the duct, the cage has to come off, otherwise it will be in the way of the cabinet door closing. Unfortunately, that was the only 4" area on the ceiling that didn't have a ceiling joist running through it. *sigh* :smokin:

Spent more money

Update - Spent more money

Just got home from the hardware store where I spent even more money.
Got out of there today for around $35 but still need ph test strips (they didn't have any I could use there.)

I bought...
(5) extension cords @ $1 ea.
(4) light socket things @ $2 ea
(1) light socket "Y" adapter @ $2.50
40 pk small zipties @ $1.50
2 pk Daylight CFL bulbs @ $8
(3) packs of assorted hooks @ $1 ea.
Organic Jiffy Seed Starting Mix Starting 10qt @ $4

There are no hydro shops here, so I think I'm may have to get some aquarium ph strips from a pet store, because the only ones they had at the hardware store were for pools and only tested ph in the range of 6.8-8.0.

I'm installing the veg shelf lights tonight... update and pics to follow.

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

Nice cabinet, lot of work. Jeri Main fits right in there. +Rep for luck keeping those wires out of your way.

Thank you, yes it does seems as if I have been working on this project for a very long time. I am pleased to be on the down-hill side. Jeri seems to love her new home. I think I have found the remedy for the wires... small zip-ties and several little round hooks, we'll see how it works tomorrow once the lights are back on. (pics tomorrow) :smokin:

Update and New Idea

Due to the fact that Jeri Main is already taking up both of the flowering sections, I've decided to go ahead and transplant her to a larger container. I'm going to flush tomorrow and then transplant later in the day or the next day.

I have also located several containers, about 17 to be exact, most of them only 1 pint, a few are larger around 1-2 quarts.

If they are dry enough, I'll be transplanting the seedlings tomorrow. I need to get them healthy and growing at a decent rate again. After transplanting, I plan to flush with ph corrected water and then, after the medium dries, will feed with ph corrected nute solution. Several will be going to the Veg Shelf and the smaller ones, or the sickly ones will go to the seedling/clone shelf where they will heal, grow large or be killed. Only the strong survive! Wooh! :grinjoint:

Several new seeds will be germinated soon, also about to experiment with some cloning when some of these seedlings get larger. Gotta keep the cycle going.

I'm already plotting on the next project, a home-made pc case grow box for a small seed crop. I'm looking for the following info, if anybody could throw me a link it would be appreciated.
1.) How many seeds per gram of dried flower does the average fully mature seeded female produce (or is there at least a range?)
2.) Has anyone ever built and/or used one of these pc grow cases with any sucess? and if so what were the top 5-10 things you learned?

Here's pics of the pc shell, outer dimensions are 16" L x 7" W x 18" H, the inner dimensions are almost the same.
This first pic was taken w/ night vision, sorry for the quality...

If it looks like the pc case is doable I'll start a new journal for it.

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

I'm gonna have to count ten seeds onto my digi scale pan to see how many per gram, but when I bought 'lids' of normal outdoor for sure mature commercial weed, one fourth always was seed. Back in the day. I don't have ten seeds, ain't that a bitch?
I think you want to bloom starts with just about no veg to finish 12 to 14"? A start is what I get two weeks after I clip a 3 or 4 inch branch end and rub it gently into the hole of an inch&half starter cube of wet rock wool. A little Olivias OK, option not necessary. Just hood them over with a big enough clear plastic box. The kind cakes are sold in. I never spray anything on the leaves. I put the covered tray on a bookshelf with two blue 23w cfl above. I don't fuck with them, and they don't wilt. They want a little food in ten days or so. Peek in and blow a little love, with CO2 rich breath, and don't touch them. When they show new growth, introduce them to the night and daytime bright. Starter cube starts drop into dirt or whatever seamlessly for the roots.

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

The computer case grow box's you've seen use Full ATX towers, which have 20.9" x 8.7" x 22.0" dimensions. You can attempt to grow in the case you have, but really your plant's going to be like 10 inches tall and 7 inches wide. Not worth it IMO when you already have a full closet set-up. What you might be able to use it for though is cloning and seedlings.

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

Hmm, good to know. :smokin: The reason I need another grow area is, I want to do a seed crop and I don't want my sensimilla crop to get messed up. ;)

I'm thinking the PC grow box idea is a bad one, seems like too much work for too little results. Really, after all the time and effort to build this grow cabinet I'm not sure if I'm up for another fun project just quite yet.

My other option is to grow my seed crop outdoors, my only real concern is pest. I'm a little gun shy after the whole stalk borer thing with this crop. The vines that are growing near the spot where I would have to grow have a nasty leaf miner infestation (I think they're leaf miners anyway.) I need to fix that before I put any of my babies outside.

Whatever I decide to do, I plan to germ the beans for the seed crop within the next few days so they can get established over the next few weeks while I figure out where to put them. :grinjoint:

Update 1 of 2

Today I transplanted Jeri Main from her 1 qt container to a 2.3 qt container.

Today I also noticed the first tricombs near the flower sites, moving along nicely!

I fed Jeri Main some Shultz 10-15-10 w/ micro nutes today after transplanting. Next feeding will be flowering nutes.

Here are pics...

Update 2 of 2

Finished the veg room today (for the most part, still need to add 1 more light set and finish out the intake vent.) The bulbs being used now are (3) daylight 5500k, (2) bright white 4200k and one soft/warm white 3500k. Not really my first choice, I would rather be using all 6500k bulbs with one 2700k bulb, but this is what I have for now, so it's what I must use. :grinjoint:

Some folks have asked about so many plants in such a small space, so I wanted to show the photos below of the veg room with a container for demonstration.

As you can see, there is room for 8 of these 1 quart containers on the veg shelf (2 rows of 4). I plan on using only 6 spaces to allow a little room and may even cut that back to 1 space for a larger mother and 4 spaces for vegging. And, if the plants get too tall, I can remove the bottom shelf and the vegging plants can sit directly on the floor.

I have a lot to do tomorrow but will most likely be transplanting all of the seedlings tomorrow night. For now smoking a bowl and going to bed. :ganjamon:

Update w/ pics...

Update 1 of ?

Looking at the seedlings again today, it looks some of them are suffering from either a sulfur deficiency or iron deficiency, and others look like they may be suffering from a boron deficiency, while other look like a molybdenum deficiency...jesus christ.

I'm pretty sure all of this is because of PH that is too alkaline.

And I think I know why... A week or two ago I watered the seedlings with what I thought to be filtered, distilled drinking water (it was with the rest of the drinking water jugs). Well it turns out that my wife had treated the water with a conditioner for use in her aquarium. So basically it was water treated with conditioning salts and a PH adjuster to make the water alkaline.

I have flushed twice sense then but it has still not seemed to correct the PH, however it is very hard to flush, check PH with the damn jiffy pot tray things, so... They are all getting transplanted, today, then I'll water them all with a PH corrected solution of 10-15-10 +micro nutes.

Here's some pics, if anybody would like to comment or make suggestions...

Re: InhaledFreq 1st documented grow (2nd actual grow) Popcorn bagseed Indoor closet c

Mind throwing a popcorn female my way if mine turn out male? Haha jk. Those things roots are going to be crazy when you transplant.

Update

Tonight I had a chance to transplant 4 of the 20 seedlings.

I've been kind of neglecting these things, I pulled them out from under the lights and they look worse than they did yesterday.
So, I besides transplanting I also watered and fed all the babies with ph corrected nute solution (10-15-10 w/ micro nutes). PH was about 6.5 according to theses aquarium water tester strips.

Today I also worked on fixing the fan situation and cut some lumber for the intake vent.

Long day tomorrow, hopefully I can transplant the rest and still have time to do some more work on the grow cabinet before dark time at midnight.
