Looks fantastic.

Thanks Billyjack! I am thinking the same myself...so far this looks to be my healthiest grow yet!

Re: Icemud's Grow 8.0 - New Intelligent-Gro LED - 2 x IGRO-228 LED - Testing And Revi

Hey Icemud!

So I have a few things to say, you seem like someone who actually cares about bettering young and aspiring growers (I am one of them, and in need of guidance!), and I would like to be the first (hopefully not the first) to thank you for constantly posting/updating/bettering this community.

I live in Colorado, and have been using marijuana recreationally/medically for 6 years, and as of 3 months ago I received my Red Card and am excited to legally grow my own medicine! I have gone through all of your journals and have also watched most of your YouTube videos (actually found them by coincidence and recognized your name :high-five: ), and I must say you have inspired me to delve into the world of Cannabis Growing/Cultivation.

I want to start off kind of small (in terms of number of plants) and refine my trade before I start going for huge crop outs. For my first grow, I would like to grow one or two plants (preferably Indica heavy strains, really really want to grow Atomic Northern Lights or Pineapple Chunk), and I want to start with clones, unless you would recommend germinating my own seeds and starting from there.

I figured I would either build my own grow box or purchase a tent (I rather build my own or use a cabinet for my first grow to save money, unless you would recommend me not too), and was wondering how much space I would need in order to have a successful ScrOG grow. I figured 2'x2'x5' would be enough room, and could easily build a grow box of that size with intake/exhaust fans, lights, and a carbon filter. In terms of lights, I had been thinking one 600w HPS bulb would do the trick, and would be a good place for me to start, although I must say after looking at this grow progress, I would love to buy one of this LED set ups :circle-of-love:

I figured I would reference your soil and nutrient mixture if I needed help in that regard (I visit my local hydro store pretty often to talk to the guys in there about growing so I could also always go there) but if you have any other suggestions for a first time grower, I would be honored to be schooled by you haha.

Thanks in advance for all of your help, and thank you for growing such beautiful medicine :bravo:

Hey MaxYields!!! Welcome to my journal and welcome to 420 Magazine!! I am so happy that you have been able to get a lot of growing knowledge from my journals and I definitely like to help people learn to grow, since I was in the same position about 4 years ago :) Congrats on getting your card and going legal! People say Marijuana is addictive, but its not, but growing it is :) Its fun, exciting and challenging and definitely the benefits are being able to try the fruits of your labor.

So as far as your setup, I would recommend doubling the space for a scrog. A 2'x2' area would be perfect so scrog 1 plants, but for 2 I almost would recommend doubling that space to a 2x4' area. You will get more yield as well as it will give your plants much more room to grow without being overcrowded, so If you could go with a 2x4' area. 5' height would be ok for a scrog. As much as I like DIY projects, the costs of grow tents are pretty cheap and I actually bought a 2x4x5 grow tent off Amazonn for like $120 bucks. For the cost of plywood and supplies to build the same size area, there wouldn't be a huge difference. (the tent I got was by lighthouse hydro).

As far as seeds vs clones. I always liked clones because I knew I had females, plus it cuts a few weeks of the veg cycle so I have always done clones, however there are a lot of growers who use seeds. Really I think the determining factor is availability. If you can get clones then I probably would go that route. The only downside to clones is that you have to trust the place you are getting them from is clean and does not have pests or powdery mildew. I have gotten clones before which had pests on them and they got over to my garden and infested the grow area, so now before even putting new clones near my grow area I will put them in a quarentine area, spray them with fungicide, pest sprays and let them sit for a week or 2 before introducing them to my other plants.

Overall I would recommend going LED over HID... even though the inital cost is more, you will save far more money over the long term as far as electrical use, bulb maintenance that it will pay for itself usually within the same year.

My best recommendation is to start reading everything you can before you start growing. I spend 3 months researching all aspects of growing before I even bought my first clones and lights and such and by doing this, my very 1st grow was a success! (see my 1st journal). Also by knowing what I needed, I was able to avoid those greedy hydro stores telling me to by 100 products I need and I was able to walk in, buy what I want and not be swayed.

Sounds like you have a really good plan and you should definitely have a successful grow. I wouldn't recommend copying my exact soil recepie because it is somewhat experimental and is not quite perfect yet, but generally you will do fine with soil, worm castings, perlite and some azomite.. I would probably recommend starting with a much simpler soil base and working from their, the more varibles you add, the more problems you my encounter so its best to KISS (keep it simple stupid) LOL Once you get that grow down, then you can start adding other things and increasing your additives :)

Another route would be to contact Docbud and ask about his kit. He pretty much has a kit in which you buy Promix HP soil, and everything else you need comes with the kit.. This is probably the best route to go since he has done all the scientific research behind his methods and many growers are having great luck with it.

I thank you so much for your interest and I am excited for you to get started. Don't forget to start a grow journal here, its the best way to not only get help and advice, but also to track what you did so you can look back and build off it :)

OUTSTANDING Icemud! Such a pretty sight! I am so happy for you! Our grows are pretty close together in flower. Sounds like we will have huge smiles around the same time this year! LOL!:high-five::circle-of-love:

Re: Icemud's Grow 8.0 - New Intelligent-Gro LED - 2 x IGRO-228 LED - Testing And Revi

Icemud, thank you so much for replying! I have gone to many different sites (reddit, ----------, etc.) and no one has offered me even 1/1000th of a fraction of info that you have given me!

That is exactly what I have been doing! (: My family has always joked that I have COCD, because I am extremely organized and plan things meticulously before I start them, and then meticulously track them as well (funny enough, cannabis really helps me relax and forget about this shit haha). I have been studying hortoculture for about a month now, basically every aspect of growing I have researched extensively. I have drawn up grow room blueprints, written hundreds of lists/schedules for possible grows, etc. So I believe that once I start, I will be able to raise my beautiful daughters correctly.

So as far as your setup, I would recommend doubling the space for a scrog. A 2'x2' area would be perfect so scrog 1 plants, but for 2 I almost would recommend doubling that space to a 2x4' area. Definitely will look into purchasing a tent, I really like your tent. It looks spacious and easy to set up/maintain, I just figured it cost a lot of money.

As far as seeds vs clones. I always liked clones because I knew I had females, plus it cuts a few weeks of the veg cycle so I have always done clones, however there are a lot of growers who use seeds. I am pretty set on starting from clones, for my first couple grows I would love some high yield / fast flowering (under 60 days) strains so I can make quick progress. There are a lot of places around Denver that I can buy clones from, the hardest part is finding the strains that I want to grow :hmmm: However, I will definitely order 10 Atomic Northern Lights Seeds once they become available again, so hard to find )':

Overall I would recommend going LED over HID... even though the inital cost is more, you will save far more money over the long term as far as electrical use, bulb maintenance that it will pay for itself usually within the same year.

I would love to start with LED.... which is why I am worried about spending money on a tent and stuff, but I would be lying if I said Im not seriously considering buying the Intellegent-Gro IGRO-405LED (I think that would work well for 2 plants in a 2'x4'x5'nicely on its own... let me know what you would recomend).

Thanks again for all of your help!!! I will be following your journals for a long time I can already tell, once I figure out how to subscribe I will! :thumb: Otherwise Ill contact Docbud about his soil options and go from there

Hey MaxYield!!

The tent that I am using in this journal is the hydrohut silver edition which runs about $230 online, it measures 2.5x5x7'. The other tent I was talking about I use in my breeding project... I will post a pic for you.. both are nice tents, I like the hydrohuts more because of the size and design, but both are very good tents, just the lighthouse hydro one is cheaper.

Sounds like you have done a lot of research, it will pay off!! I see a lot of new growers jump into things without knowing what they are doing and they spend half the time correcting mistakes, so it sounds like you are off to a great start!!! Can't wait to see your journal.

For a 2x4 area, the Igro 405 would be perfect! Or if you wanted to do the same as me and get 2 of the 228w ones it would offer slightly better penetration because you have light coming from 2 sources/angles so less leaf shading, but either way, both will be very good for your size grow!
