Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spectrum

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Many State Universities will have soil testing services for agricultural outreach. The right test is the strong-acid test which typically runs around $80. I priced the equipment and ingredients for that, and the price isn't out of line, maybe 2-3 times cost. I vaguely remember the cost of a basic kit with supplies for around $300? :hmmmm:

It wasn't terrible. I've been having a great time lately, designing a 41-COB ceiling o' light, using Vero13s at 22 watts each. :slide: Only runs about $1500. :cheesygrinsmiley: Uh huh. Sure, I need to spend another $1500 on lighting. Pffft! I need to spend some time and money
sealing and insulating my room first, and then things like a soil test kit would be a lot more useful that a bunch of new lights.

Heheh, and in your case too, the last thing you need is more lights!

41 veros Goodness!!! They like to be ran hard too! You may have to use limo tint on your eyeglasses. I'm guessing they'll be dimmable. Can't wait to see that big boom theory lighting begin flowering life in your garden's galaxy.

Thanks but I'm not where i want to be yet. Close but I'm still learning my craft. I'll know when I'm ready. Still 4 weeks out for SLH and 5 for The rest. Doing a seed run in the tent now due to weak genes.

Update time!!!

The VEG tent (Budmaster COB)

Well yesterday I decided it was time to give my girls a trim, since my fire OG was getting very large and needs more bushyness, so I took the scissors to all the girls. I topped the 3 tangies and Ogiesel in the front, and took all the tallest meristems off the other plants, and chopped the fire og more than in half. I want to promote more branching on all the plants and really fill in the canopy. Other than that I did a quick pot lift to see when they should need some water and it will be in about 2 days, so today I prepared a mild feeding of : biominerals, vitamin b 1-1-1, hydrolyzed fish 2-4-0, alfalfa meal, and some sea green 1-0-4 and hygrozyme. Basically a tea but with a little extra in it.

I wont feed the girls though for at least a day to 2 days...

The Flowering tent: Day 50 under Budmaster GOD panels:

The flowering tent is looking really good as well. Last night I decided to take off about a 1/2 plastic shopping bag's worth of leaves, as well as do some re-positioning of the buds to give for better light penetration as well as to optimize my canopy for the lights. Mainly I took off fan leaves that were blocking budsites from getting light and left many of the lower fans on this way to make sure that the light all gets absorbed, but the tops weren't shading the rest of the plant. We will see how it goes...

Being that we are on day 50, I think I probably have about 3-4 weeks to go, maybe more on the OG and tangie 8, but we will see. I can tell right now they have really started to hit that phase of swelling and thickening up which makes me happy. The smell in the tent today was very strong as well and has seemed to be getting more and more fragrant as the days pass. I'm really liking how the Tangie
#5 looks this round, as I made sure there were more tops and its really thriving :) Also can't wait to try it since I had to throw the whole batch out last run due to mold... so really stoked to try the asphalt smelling pheno :)

The girls are still sucking up the water from the drench of tea I gave them a few days ago so I suspect that they will need a watering in about 2 days which will be the same as my feeding described above. Other than that, the plants look happy today :)

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Lovely flowers, I'm thinking you are closer then you think. Those last few shots show few white pistil's but the dark ones are mostly pulled back inside flower. Your about 3 to 4 days from foxtails which is end game. Some strains do not turn amber tricks and will stay white throughout. Looking clean on leaf mass with above average frost. Way to go Ice.

Cheers

Hey Millertm! Yea its getting close to that time :) usually my ogiesel I run about 65 days so it will probably be the 1st to harvest, in about 2 weeks or so, and the tangies I think I want run longer than I did last grow as they were very sativa dom and the effects were a little too light for me, and I want more of a heavier high, so I think I may run them about 75-80 days. I know the Fire OG and the tangie 8 will be the last to harvest as most of my OG's I run about 85-95 days for that last thickening period and to really get a heavy high but the trichomes will let me know soon :) I may snap some photos later today if I can get some good close ups :)

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Quick updates...

VEG TENT: Budmaster COB tent...

So I decided to flip my veg schedule to the Gas Lantern Routine. I figured I've had such good success with it in the past, might as well sav some money and have happy girls. So if your not familair with Gas Lantern Routine or (12-1) as some call it, its a light schedule that gives the results of a 18/6 schedule, but only using 13 hours of light. (saving 5 hours of energy per day).

How this works is you set your veg schedule (timers) to 12 hours of light on, 5.5 hours of light off, 1 hour light on, 5.5 hours off. So basically we are splitting the 24 hour day into 2x 12 hours sections. By adding the 1 hour of light during the dark period, we are interrupting the reactions that happen inside a plant and tricking the plant to think that in a 24 hour day period, there are actually 2 days.

How does this work?
Cannabis is a SDP or short day plant. With short day plants, the flowering is not triggered by the amount of light, but by the amount of un-interrupted dark. With a short day plant, 12 hours or more of complete darkness is needed to cause flowering hormones to form. (some plants slightly differ in night time length but general its 12 hours) By breaking this cycle up, you inhibit these hormones from causing the plant to stay in veg... So as you can see, the amount of light over 12 hours really doesn't matter much, its the dark that is what control's flowering...

Red light converts the chemical photo chrome Pr (red) into photo chrome Pfr (far red). In the short day plants red light, 660nm begins the synthesis of PR and red light converts this to Pfr. Now this conversion of Pr to Pfr in light is a very fast process but at night, the process reverses and is slow, changing the PFR back to PR... Unless there is more PR than PFR, the plant will remain in veg..

Now by interrupting the dark cycle with 1 hr of light, the PR is converted back quickly to PFR, so the plant stays in veg, because there again is more of an abundance of PFR than PR...typically this process as we know it for short day plants takes around 12+ hours of darkness to achieve a full reversion. So by breaking the cycle up, the plant will not flower.

I've used GLR on many many strains and have had no problems with it in veg, unless its used for extended periods such as keeping mothers, which then I did have 2 strains act a little funny under the GLR, however I would estimate that 95% or more of my strains have done absolutely fine in GLR even in extended veg periods. I switched over to the 18/6 while testing different brands of lights to show the "real world" results as most use the 18/6 and I wanted to replicate the average growers expectations. Now that I have shown these lights can veg in 18/6, might as well switch over to GLR and save myself some money.

at 400w total draw, at an 18/6 schedule it costs me approx $60 a month to run these lights
at 400w total draw, at a GLR veg schedule it will cost me approx $43.68 to run these lights...
GLR will save me almost $20 a month just with 400w running.... worth it to me to switch over :)

Flowering Tent: Budmaster GOD

I also adjusted my flowering tents light schedule. Currently I was flowering at a 12.25/11.75 schedule and so now that we are getting closer to the end of the grow, I wanted to reduce the daylight to help increase the production of THC-V which typically will produce slightly higher on a 11/13 schedule that the opposite at 13/11, and with THC-V being the precursor to THC-A, I want to encourage this synthesis to take place.

No photos with this update since I just posted some last night, but will in a few days when I water the girls. :)

Re: Icemud LED Grow Featuring The All New Budmaster COB Technology - White Full Spect

Great info Ice! Thanks for that.

I was thinking about dropping my lights to 11/13 as it somehow made sense to me to do so towards the end of flower. Now I see there is actually some science to that and not just anecdotal fun. So you are around day 51/52 if I am right.

Any things to consider when doing this light change?
Thanks!
Bob ;)

Well i went back to copy some of the research on this for you, and read through it again, and it looks like they found that 12/12 to be ideal for producing the best cannabinoid profiles. I think I may leave mine at just slightly under 12/12 at 11.75/12.25 for the rest of the grow, after re reading it...
